With its basketball section dating back to 1928, AS Monaco boasts a long tradition in the sport. Monaco's first foray into international competition came with a couple of Korac Cup outings in the 1974-75 and 1982-83 seasons. The principality side then suffered a dramatic slide in fortunes, dropping as far as the fourth division until a remarkable revival in the last few years. Monaco made its BKT EuroCup debut in style in the 2018-19 campaign, winning its regular-season group and reaching the final game of the Top 16. In 2019-20, Monaco advanced from the regular season in the EuroCup and then took first place in Group G in the Top 16 to lock up home-court advantage in the quarterfinals, which ended up not being played due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following season, in 2020-21, Monaco secured its first-ever continental title by defeating UNICS Kazan in the EuroCup Finals, as it progressed to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for the very first time. Monaco replaced Zvezdan Mitrovic with Sasa Obradovic during its debut EuroLeague season and hasn’t looked back since, reaching the playoffs in all three of its EuroLeague campaigns to date and even making the Final Four in 2023. Expectations are always high at Monaco, but with reigning EuroLeague MVP Mike James at the club, it will fancy its chances of another Final Four appearance in 2025.
