Besiktas Istanbul added court vision and experience by inking point guard Berk Ugurlu to a one-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Ugurlu (1.92 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Tofas Bursa, where he averaged 8.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 29 Turkish League games last season, his fourth with his former club. In his first campaign with Tofas, Ugurlu averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 assists in 16 games, helping his team reach the 2019-20 playoffs which were never played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ugurlu started his career with Fenerbahce Bedko Istanbul and had a huge EuroLeague debut against Anadolu Efes Istanbul on April 10, 2014. Ugurlu, age 17, had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists in an 84-65 home win. He helped Fenerbahce win the EuroLeague title in 2017, as well as lifting the Turkish League trophy three times and adding two Turkish Cup crowns in 2013 and 2016. Ugurlu also led Turkiye to respective gold medals at the 2012 U16 European Championships, as well as in the 2013 and 2014 U18 European Championships. He got three more bronze medals in youth competitions, at the 2015 U19 World Cup, and the 2015 and 2016 U20 European Championships.
