The point guard shined after joining the club midway through last season
Buducnost, Yogi Ferrell pen contract extension
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica has announced that star point guard Yogi Ferrell will remain with the club for another season. Ferrell (1.82 meters, 31 years old) joined Buducnost midway through last season and averaged 10.4 points, 4.1 assists and 1.3 steals in nine BKT EuroCup games. He also produced 13.6 points, 4.0 assists and 1.1 steals in the Adriatic League as he led the club to the semifinals. Ferrell then average 18.8 points to help Buducnost claim the Montenegrin League crown.
Ferrell joined Buducnost during the season from China, where he played for the Shanghai Sharks and averaged 15.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.2 steals in nine games. He previously played two seasons in the EuroCup with Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana.
Ferrell posted 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and a 17.7 PIR in 15 games for Cedevita during the 2021-22 season to reach the EuroCup Quarterfinals. Then, in the 2022-23 campaign, he led the EuroCup in scoring with 18.4 points and also dished 5.1 assists for a 21.4 PIR. Ferrell helped Cedevita win the Croatian League and Cup double in both seasons. He made his European debut in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with Panathinaikos Athens at the start of the 2021-22 season.
The start of Ferrell’s career
After starring as a college basketball player at Indiana University, Ferrell played a total of 259 games in the NBA across five seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers. He played nine games in the NBA Playoffs in the 2020-21 season for the Clippers, too.
The best performances in Ferrell’s NBA career came during his time with Dallas, where he averaged 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 36 games in the 2016-17 season before posting 10.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 82 appearances in the 2017-18 campaign.
