Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana has inked Zoran Dragic to a new contract, the club confirmed on Saturday. Dragic (1.96 meters, 33 years old) joined Cedevita during the 2021-22 7DAYS EuroCup season, playing 12 games and averaging 10.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Cedevita reached the quarterfinals of last season's EuroCup, losing to Frutti Extra Bursaspor after beating Turk Telekom Ankara in the eighthfinals round.
Cedevita re-signs veteran Dragic
Dragic has a plethora of experience in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the EuroCup, having played a total of 152 games in the former and 31 games in the latter over the course of his career. He began his career with Ilirija Ljubljana in his native Slovenia before going on to represent Geoplin Slovan Ljubljana and Krka Novo Mesto. During his final season at Krka, he debuted in the EuroCup. In 2012, Dragic played outside of Slovenia for the first time as he joined Unicaja Malaga of Spain, which resulted in him making his EuroLeague debut. He spent the 2014-15 season between Phoenix and Miami of the NBA, as well as Sioux Falls of the NBA G League. Dragic returned to Europe in 2015 to play in the EuroLeague for Khimki Moscow Region, AX Armani Exchange Milan and Anadolu Efes Istanbul over the next two and a half seasons. Two short stints with Pallacanestro Trieste of Italy and ratiopharm Ulm of Germany followed, with Dragic playing in the EuroCup with Ulm, but he made his return to the EuroLeague with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in the second half of the 2020-21 season. Dragic then started last season with Zalgiris Kaunas before joining Cedevita in January 2022.
“Ljubljana is my home, so I am happy to remain part of Cedevita Olimpija. A new season is ahead for our team, which brings new challenges,” said Dragic. “We want to achieve the best possible final result in the 7DAYS EuroCup and the regional league, and I believe that the fans will stand behind us in all our matches and once again conjure up a great basketball atmosphere in Stozice and Tivoli.”
