Depleted Jerusalem blows past undermanned Reyer, 94-66
Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem overcame important absences to cruise past an injury-hit Umana Reyer Venice by grabbing a comfortable 94-66 victory in Round 7 of the 2024-25 BKT EuroCup campaign on Wednesday. Jared Harper, Nimrod Levi, Austin Wiley, Justin Smith and Kenneth Smith all missed out for the hosts, while Reyer disputed the game without the services of Xavier Munford, Tyler Ennis, Mfiondu Tshimanga Kabengele and Aamir Simms.
After a balanced first quarter that ended with Jerusalem leading 24-20, the hosts pulled away in the second and never looked back. With this win, the Israeli side improved its record to 5-2, while Reyer dropped to 2-5.
A pair of Jerusalem players recorded career-highs in scoring, as Noam Dovrat paced his team with 17 points and Or Cornelius added 14. Khadeen Carrington netted 16 and Jeremy Morgan and Yovel Zoosman finished the game with 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the hosts. For Reyer, Kyle Wiltjer netted 18 points, 16 of which were scored in the first quarter. Jordan Parks chipped in with 15 points and Davide Moretti scored 11.

Wiltjer netted Reyer’s first 7 points, but Carrington scored 5 of his own, Chris Johnson added 3 and Dovrat nailed a triple for a 10-7 Jerusalem lead. Yet, the guests went on a 0-6 run, with Amedeo Tessitori scoring inside, Wiltjer hitting 2 of 2 from the line and Rodney McGruder sinking a layup in transition to put Reyer ahead, 10-13. The hosts responded with an 11-0 surge, including easy finishes from Cornelius and new signing Derek Ogbeide on the break following Reyer turnovers on offense. Wiltjer netted a floater off the glass to end Jerusalem’s run and trimmed the deficit to 21-15. The Reyer forward was hot both from inside and beyond the arc, adding another 5 points to take his tally to 16, as Jerusalem maintained a 24-20 lead after 10 minutes.
The hosts started strong in the second quarter, as Cornelius and Tessitori traded buckets before a triple from Carrington and an Ogbeide layup opened a 32-22 margin. Dovrat nailed one from deep and Yovel Zoosman scored a hard-fought basket to extend Jerusalem’s run to 14-2. Reyer netted just one field goal in the first 6 and half minutes of the second, before Wiltjer came off the bench to score from inside, 38-24. Yet, Jerusalem went on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to beyond 20 points before a layup from Jordan Parks in transition made it 47-29 at halftime.
The game turned into a back-and-forth affair in the opening stages of the second half, but Jerusalem maintained a 57-36 cushion following triples from Dovrat and Morgan. Carl Wheatle and Moretti nailed back-to-back threes, but Cornelius netted a layup in transition to end Reyer’s momentum, 59-42. An exchange of blows saw Jerusalem push the margin to 69-47, with Morgan netting a triple and Cornelius adding 4 points to his tally. All Reyer managed to do in the last minute of the third was to cut the difference to 69-51 from the line.
Jerusalem started strong in the closing quarter, going on a 12-2 run to practically finish the game off. A Morgan triple followed a midrange jumper from Carrington before 2 three-pointers from Zoosman made it 81-53. Then, Reyer lost its two bigs, Tessitori and Alessandro Lever, both of whom fouled out, before a Dovrat jumper extended Jerusalem’s lead beyond 30 points, 86-55, with the hosts cruising the rest of the way.
