Derek Needham, Besiktas agree to another season together
Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul and former All-EuroCup guard Derek Needham have agreed on a deal that will see them spend a second season together. Needham (1.80 meters, 33 years old) averaged 12.0 points and 3.4 assists in 22 EuroCup games last season in helping the club reach the semifinals. He also had 13.2 points and 4.4 assists in the Turkish League as Besiktas reached the semifinals.
It was Needham’s fifth season in the EuroCup and his third in Türkiye. He played for Frutti Extra Bursaspor from 2021 through 2023 and helped lead that team to the EuroCup Final in 2022. Needham was named to the All-EuroCup First Team in 2021-22. His 819 points and 168 three-pointers over the last three seasons are the most in the EuroCup and his 258 assists and 72 steals are both second.
His first seasons in the EuroCup were with AS Monaco in 2018-19 and Morna Bar of Montenegro the next season. He has also played for Siauliai and Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania, Khimik-OPZ Yuhzny in Ukraine, Braunschweig in Germany, Reggio Emilia in Italy.
