Hapoel inks scorer Antonio Blakeney
Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv announced on Monday that it has signed high-scoring guard Antonio Blakeney for the remainder of the season.
Blakeney (1.93 meters, 28 yers old) has spent the last two seasons playing in the Chinese Basketball Association. He led the league in scoring with 32.7 points per game for the Jiangsu Dragons in the 2022-23 campaign, and last season tallied 30.5 points for the Nanjing Monkey Kings.
In 102 career games over three seasons in China, Blakeney has been worth 32.0 points on 40.3% three-point shooting, 7.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
Blakeney returns to Israel after finishing the 2021-22 season with Hapoel Beersheva. He averaged 24.5 points, 4.8 boards and 4.0 assists in that run.
After playing college basketball at Louisiana State University, Blakeney began his professional career with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA and also played for their G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls. He was the G League Rookie of the Year in his first season after averaging a league-high 32.0 points plus 6.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
Blakeney has also played for the Canton Charge in the G League and for Al-Ahli in Bahrain.
