The playmaker returns to the EuroCup after a five-year hiatus
Hapoel Tel Aviv signs veteran guard Joe Ragland
Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv’s first signing ahead of the 2024-25 campaign is point guard Joe Ragland, who returns to Israel after a year with Peristeri Athens. Ragland (1.84 meters, 34 years old) led the Basketball Champions League in assists with 8.9 per game last season. He also posted 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals over 19. He helped Peristeri reach the semifinals and was named to the BCL Star Lineup. Ragland also posted 13.6 points and 7.7 assists in the Greek League, where he led Peristeri to a third-place finish.
It marked the second time Ragland was in the All-BCL First Time. He did the same two years earlier with Hapoel Holon when he also led that competition in assists. Ragland played two seasons with Holon and led it to the 2022 Israeli League championship and the Finals MVP. He played another season in Israel, with Hapoel Eilat, in 2020-21.
Ragland began his professional career in Spain with UCAM Murcia in 2012 and first played in the EuroCup the following season with Italy’s Cantu. Ragland played in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague in the next two seasons, first with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and in 2015-16 with Pinar Karsiya of Türkiye. He has also played for Felice Scandone in Italy, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar in Russia and Crvena Zvezda Belgrade in Serbia. Ragland’s trophy case includes the 2018 Russian Cup, the 2019 Adriatic League and Serbian League championships and the aforementioned Israeli crown.
