“Any time you get a win in the EuroCup against a good team like that \[is good\]”, said Umoja Gibson who had 19 points and 8 assists in a win. “No game in the EuroCup is easy, every team is high level."

It is not easy, yet, Cedevita is on an impressive run. This was Cedevita’s fourth consecutive win, third straight by 20 or more points, and fourth win of at least 20 points on home floor this season.

The key to the win was Cedevita’s energy, and its performance in the second quarter in which the team scored 37 points. The hosts missed only two field goals during those 10 minutes of play, making 7 of 8 triples, 5 of 6 two-pointers and 6 of 7 free throws.

After finishing the first quarter with a 9-0 run, back to back threes from Nikos Chougkas fueled an 11-0 run that opened Cedevita’s first double-digit lead, 38-24. Cedevita kept hitting from long range, as three consecutive triples extended the lead before Rok Radovic made a half-court buzzer-beater to end the half, making it 61-42.

“I did not expect \[such big win\] to be honest,” Cedevita head coach Zvezdan Mitrovic said after the game. “Like we started in the first half, we continued in the second.”

Cedevita cruised in the second half, broke the 100-point mark with 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 108 points, tying the club record for most points in a home game.

It all allowed Cedevita to sit atop the Group A standings with the first half of the regular season behind us. And position itself favorably for the second part, in which it will play six road games and only three at home.

‘‘We are improving. We have good chemistry, I think that’s one of the most important points,’’ Coach Erdem Can said after the game. ‘‘Our guys really enjoy playing together and they do the things on the court for each other.’’

The blue-and-whites’ chemistry showed through, with a strong defensive effort carrying the team to a road win. After a balanced first half, Turk Telekom took firm control in the third quarter, using strong defense to dictate the pace and steadily extend their lead.

Turk Telekom’s main offensive plan focused on attacking the paint, and the visitors established an edge on both ends throughout the game. Struggling from beyond the arc much of the season, Turk Telekom received a boost from Jaleen Smith, who poured in 17 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and hit 3 timely three-pointers.

Kris Bankston made his mark in the paint for Turk Telekom, finishing with 12 points and 6 rebounds, while Michael Devoe sparked the offense with 13 points and 7 assists.

Coach Erdem Can reflected on the team’s performance: ‘‘At the beginning of the game, we started a little bit flat. But after that, we picked up our pace defensively and offensively. And to be honest, we really reacted well and in the first half, giving up 10 offensive rebounds was the biggest minus for us.  But after that, we started to control our board. We won a very important game.’’

Despite a strong effort on the offensive boards, Chemnitz struggled to convert second-chance opportunities. Turk Telekom’s tough defense held the German side to just 63 points, forcing Chemnitz to rely on perimeter shooting, but the home team could only manage 7-of-38 from beyond the arc.

‘‘I think it’s the first time in this EuroCup that we found ourselves in a situation which the opponents control the game as much as they did outside of the first 5 minutes. I was very satisfied with the level of energy defensively and offensive execution that we were showing. But everything went out as soon as we started missing some wide-open threes.’’ said Coach Rodrigo Pastore after the game.

‘‘On the other side, they did a very good job creating shots, especially paint shots… In certain moments when we felt like we could make a run, they were executing at a high level to get the shots they wanted to get.’’

U-BT Cluj-Napoca boosted its hopes of reaching the BKT EuroCup postseason after an 88-98 victory at Aris Thessaloniki Betsson which propelled the visitors to a 5-4 record in Group A while the Greek side dropped to 4-5 at the midway point of the regular season.

It was just what the doctor ordered for Cluj, with the Romanian champs' head coach Mihai Sivasan stressing that his men were hard pressed to bounce back from two defeats in three games after an 89-101 home loss to Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem.

Among a pack of performers, Australian forward Mitchell Creek stood out for Cluj with a personal-best 27 points, having sank 8 of 9 shots from inside while he also racked up 6 boards as the battling visitors wiped out a 9-point second quarter deficit.

Creek orchestrated the fightback and several of his teammates followed in his footsteps, as Molinar Iverson chipped in with 18 points and 8 assists while Fatts Russel had 16 points and 6 assists. Big man Dusan Miletic added 12 points 5 boards for the visiting team, which dished out 28 team assists as it shared the ball selflessly.

Creek summed up the contest by underscoring the die-hard Cluj mentality as the visitors were shorthanded in a pivotal game, which could have a massive impact on the chase for postseason spots.  

“They were stressing, we were stressing,” the 33-year-old said after the game. “They were on a run, but we honestly played great defensive possessions, back to back.

“The guys all stepped up in the absence of some of our main players, but it’s the next man mentality as we’re well-coached and we just want to get on the rod and win games. To win here is amazing and a massive credit to the fans who came out tonight as this one of the best places I’ve played basketball.”

Trailing 41-38 at halftime, Cluj beefed up its defense in the third quarter and nosed ahead 58-60 ahead of the final 10 minutes before hitting top gear to fire on all cylinders when the chips were down. Shots came raining in from all angles in the fourth and there was even time for the jugular as Iverson produced the night’s magic moment with a big dunk from Creek’s assist.

Sivasan was purring with delight after the game, heaping praise on his team’s second-half effort at both ends of the court. “I am really happy for this win, especially as it came after the break. It was a really important game between two teams close in the standings so it’s a big away win for us,” he said.

“We only made 5 turnovers in the second half, and that helped us build on offense and have some easier points. I am also really proud that we had 28 assists, that’s a huge number. I am happy with the second half defense, we had better reactions and didn’t allow so many easy points and we’ll now just try to take it game by game.”

Aris head coach Igor Milicic conceded that his team’s lackluster second-half defense was pivotal, as Cluj drained 60 points after the interval. “They found the momentum to break our defense and we didn’t respond. You have to be smart and play with high intensity for 40 minutes.”

Amine Noua and newcomer Danilo Andjusic, who joined Aris from Dubai Basketball last month, were the two beacons of light for the Greek side as they netted 20 points apiece, but porous defending after the break drained the home team’s hopes of coming out on top.

Harper, Jerusalem play and think long term as they blow out Reyer

Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem bid farewell to Belgrade’s Hala Sportova Ranko Zeravica in style. The Israeli club, which is slated to become the first team from Israel to play an international game on home soil next week, blew past Umana Reyer Venice 98-66 on Thursday night to keep up with Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana and in a share of the best record in Group A, 7-2.

It was Jerusalem’s sixth consecutive win, and it seemed there was never a doubt about the outcome of this one.

Jerusalem opened the game with a 14-2 run behind 3 triples from Khadeen Carrington, Yovel Zoosman added a pair of long-range shots and never lost control of the game. Reyer came within 5 points once in the first quarter, but spent majority of the night in a double-digit deficit.

Jerusalem led by 21 at the break, as Reyer needed 24 minutes of the game to hit its first three-point shot. The lead was as big as 35 points in the final stanza, and Jerusalem used six scorers in double figures to register only its second win of 30 or more points in the EuroCup, and its largest in more than 18 years - since November 2007.

“I feel like we are in a great rhythm as a team”, said Jared Harper, last season’s EuroCup MVP, who had 18 points and 9 assists in this one.

“We are playing really good, and just have to look to continue do those things and in the second half of the \[regular season\] to make a good push to have a great position heading to the playoffs.”

It’s nine games to go in the regular season, and anything can happen, but Harper and his teammates obviously are thinking long term. And that already includes, yes, the EuroCup Playoffs which do not start until March.

“It’s a process”, Harper said. “We understand the goals we want to have for the end of the season. You cannot take any game for granted, we have to come in give our best effort every game so we are ready for the moments later on in the season. I feel like we did a really good job of that tonight.”

Make no mistake, however, Jerusalem head coach Yonatan Alon has the feet of his team firmly placed on the floor.

From break to breakthrough: Trento dominates Ulm after regrouping

Dolomiti Energia Trento produced one of its best offensive performances of the season in grabbing an important road victory over ratiopharm ulm - a win that could build the Italian team’s confidence.

Trento prevailed 87-100 in Germany to reach triple figures on the scoreboard for the second time following a 96-107 road win over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in Round 2.

“I am really happy for the guys because we were coming back from a break, where I saw they got regenerated. They were drained before the break and now they had more energy. They were solid,” said Trento head coach Massimo Cancellieri.

After a first half in which Ulm finished leading 46-45, Trento took control of the game in the third quarter with a 3-15 run for a 56-68 advantage. Ulm could not get closer than 9 points the rest of the way.

“In the first half, they scored too many points. We scored a lot, too, but we knew we wouldn’t win like that. We got a lot of stops and just kept scoring in the second half to give us the win,” said DeVante’ Jones, who collected 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the win, which improved Trento’s record to 4-5 and snapped a two-game losing streak.

Cancellieri, who saw Jordan Bayehe also score 19 points and DJ Steward chip in 18 points and 4 assists, thinks this victory could lead to a push for the team.

“I have to give credit to how poised our players were in the clutch moments. We played excellent defense in the third quarter and in the fourth quarter we were managing it and taking advantage of every miss the opponents made, or we forced them to make,” he said. “Overall, it was a solid game and an important win for us, mostly for the confidence because this team is young and in the process of growing. They need confidence and wins give confidence.”

Trento shot 59.0% on two-pointers and 33.3% from long range against Ulm. Both of those numbers were much higher than the team’s averages coming into the game. The Italian side had made 50.5% on two-pointers over the first eight games and 26.2% from long range - ranking 17th and 20th, respectively And even the 100 points scored were 21 more than the team’s 79.0 points average beforehand.

One reason for Trento’s success was also Ulm’s continued struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Ty Harrelson’s team ranked 18th in scoring defense (94.5 ppg), 19th in two-point shooting (61.1%) and 20th in three-point percentage (40.5%) entering the game.

Add to that Ulm sending Trento to the free throw line 35 times - the Italian side made 27 of the attempts for 77.1% while Ulm hit 17 of 21.

Nelson Weidemann scored a career-high 21 points - but only 5 of those came in the second half for Ulm. Mark Smith poured in 20 points and new acquisition Justin Simon contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds in his first game.

“Overall, it was a disappointing result. Tautvydas Sabonis could not have been more satisfied in the post-game press conference after his team, the London Lions, earned a 61-74 road victory at Lietkabelis Panevezys. It was the team's second road win and fourth victory of the season, having dominated the game with authority in the last 30 minutes.

“I’m very happy for my guys. We left a good team, a very well-coached team, to 61 points tonight, that shows the character of our defensive-minded team”, he celebrated. “In a few moments that \[Jamel\] Morris gave them a spark, we contained them, putting Dean Williams on him; he had a f\*\*\*\*ing great game today.”

The run led by Morris and Lietkabelis, which helped keep the game tied in the second quarter (27-27), was the last one to have a real impact for the home team. From that point on, Lietkabelis gradually fell apart due to multiple turnovers and its opponent’s accuracy from beyond the arc.

A 0-15 run bridging the second and third quarters boosted London early after halftime, allowing the visitors to build a lead of nearly 20 points midway through the third quarter, which Lietkabelis was never able to threaten in a serious way.

During that transition between the first and second halves, and throughout the remainder of the game, the man who took charge was Tarik Phillip. The British guard scored two fast-break baskets at the start of the third quarter, establishing the first double-digit advantage for London and fueling his teammates' confidence.

“I just came out to give energy, man. This is the energy game coming off the break,” Phillip said at the end of the game. “We've been working for the past week or so because we didn't have many guys in the window, so we came out and played with a lot of energy. That's it.”

Phillip scored 7 points in the third quarter and continued providing for this team on both sides of the court. He finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for a season-high PIR of 32 - only 1 less than his personal record in the competition. And he was the player Sabonis turned to when Lietkabelis made its last attempt in the fourth quarter. With Phillip back on court, things calmed down again and Lietkabelis never got closer than 9 points till the end of the game.

“He's the guy who's gonna give me a heart attack, but he's a competitor,” Sabonis joked. “He fights, he bleeds, he sweats London, and that is the symbol that we need. And today, he put on a great performance, but taking away that, I think the whole team did a very good job and understood the game.”

This win puts London Lions in a much better position in Group B, entering the playoff zone and escaping from Lietkabelis, who could have tied London with a win.

“These games are really tricky and important at the same time”, acknowledged Phillip. “You \[play\] on the road, bottom teams. You don't really know what you're gonna get. It's coming off the break, so it's just kind of coming here, playing with a lot of energy and coming out with a win.”

Neptunas's lights-out shooting leads to shocking win at Bahcesehir 

Neptunas Klaipeda pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the season with a lights-out shooting performance in blowing out Bahcesehir College Istanbul.

Neptunas tied a club record with 18 three-pointers in registering an 85-100 victory at Bahcesehir. The win snapped a two-game losing streak and improved the visitors’ record to 4-5. Bahcesehir was knocked from a share of first place in Group A as it fell to 6-3 with its third loss in the last four games.

Neptunas built a 14-point lead after 10 minutes and it was 19 points in the second quarter. The Lithuanians just kept hitting three-pointers in pushing the lead to 30 points with 7 minutes to go.

Bahcesehir threw everything it had at Neptunas and managed to trim the deficit to 14 points in the closing minutes, but the hole was too large to overcome.

“We are happy with the victory. Like always with us, it was a rollercoaster game. It was a very good first half and we expected that they would come out aggressive in the second half and that’s what happened. We must control the game a little bit better, but we understand with that level of team, we cannot keep a big, big lead of 30 points for a full 40 minutes. I am really happy for our players and organization,” said Neptunas head coach Gediminas Petrauskas.

Neptunas not only evened its 18 three-pointers from Round 2 this season at home against U-BT Cluj-Napoca, but the guests also made 50.0% from long range. And it was a real team effort.

Eight Neptunas players hit from the outside and four buried at least 3 triples - 4 from Mindaugas Girdziunas and Arnas Velicka and 3 each by Zane Waterman and Vitalijus Kozys.

“Neputnas made everything today,” Bahcesehir coach Marko Barac remarked. “We couldn’t cope with Neptunas’ shooting all game long.”

Petrauskas’s men also did a great job controlling the ball with only 2 turnovers in the first half and had only 7 miscues with 7 minutes left in the game. Neptunas committed 6 turnovers over the rest of the game as Bahcesehir made its comeback attempt.

Neptunas had five scorers in double figures, topped by Velicka’s 18 points and 6 assists. Waterman posted 16 points and 8 rebounds and Rihards Lomazs added 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. The team also got a strong contribution from new acquisition Egidijus Mockevicius, who chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds as a starter.

Bahcesehir could not connect on anything, hitting only 42.6% on two-pointers and 27.6% from long range. The Turkish team came into the game having shot 58.9% on two-pointers - ranked fourth-best in the EuroCup.

Those offensive woes were even more surprising considering Neptunas’s defensive struggles this season. The team ranked 19th in points allowed (95.0 ppg) and 17th in both two-point percentage (57.5%) and three-pointers (38.0%).

Balsa Koprivica stood out with 13 points, 7 rebounds and a personal record 6 blocks. But the coach did not recognize his team.

“They deserved the win completely. We looked today like a team that is out of game shape,” the coach said. “We just couldn’t find the game rhythm from the first to last minute. This was one of our off days. Nothing went right for us today. We need to regroup and get back to the rhythm we had before the national team break.”

Every competitor wants a career full of titles. [Cassius Winston](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/cassius-winston/011940/) is no different, and he hopes to finally get a league crown in Europe with [Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-midtown-jerusalem/jer/) – especially now that the team can play the BKT EuroCup at home. 

Jerusalem has found its groove in the EuroCup with a five-game winning streak going into the national team break. And Winston has been a big part of the Israeli side racing out to a 6-2 mark, good for a three-way tie atop Group A. 

“We like our position. It’s a long season, but I feel like we're getting better as a team and hitting a pretty good stride right now. So it's just about being consistent and just keeping at it,” Winston told David Hein. “There is still got a lot more season to go, but I like our chances.”

The 27-year-old point guard has shined in his first season in the EuroCup, averaging 15.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists. And it shouldn’t be a surprise that the 1.85-meter guard is playing well.

After a stellar college career which included winning a Big Ten Conference championship with Michigan State University, Winston spent the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons trying to make the NBA, playing predominantly in the G League. 

He left the United States for Europe and made his continental debut in the EuroLeague with FC Bayern Munich in 2022-23, where he averaged 11.0 points and 3.4 assists. Winston moved onto Tofas Bursa in Turkiye the following season and spent the 2024-25 campaign in Italy playing for Reggio Emilia. 

Winston played internationally the last two seasons in the Basketball Champions League – both times losing in the quarterfinals of the playoffs to a Spanish club. 

This off-season he was attracted to the move to Israel and Jerusalem. 

“It was just a great opportunity, a legendary club. I knew they were trying to do some really special things. And I just wanted to be a part of that; I wanted to be a part of something that can be that major,” he said. “I definitely wanted to come and play with all this talent and just see where I could impact the game and help the team out.”

Jerusalem would love to get to the EuroLeague, and Winston wouldn’t mind being there again, too. Each season since leaving Bayern, he has been able to measure himself against two EuroLeague teams in his domestic leagues: Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in Turkiye, and EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Virtus Bologna in Italy. 

“It's always the goal to play at the highest level possible and go there and contribute, and show that you can compete at that level, too. So, it's a great opportunity and a great situation to help this team and help myself in the process,” he said. 

When asked how motivated he feels to get back to the EuroLeague, Winston answered: “It's up there. I just want to play at the highest level and whatever is best for me. I know the EuroLeague is filled with really good players and really good competition. So if I get an opportunity, I would love to challenge myself against the best, always.”

Through his time in Europe, this season with Jerusalem is the first opportunity for Winston to play with someone for a second time. Winston and [Austin Wiley](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/austin-wiley/013278/) played together at Tofas and really provided a strong point guard-big man combo. 

“We had a really good year in Tofas – just our chemistry and how we played together. And it carried over into this year, just reading each other, knowing each other's spots, just going out there playing with somebody that dominant. It always helps make the game easier on us as guards,” Winston said.

Wiley had joined Jerusalem after that year at Tofas while Winston went to Italy. And Winston said he talked to Wiley about a move to Israel.

“I talked to him just to see how things were, how he liked the coaches and the game and the play style. And he loved it. He told me I would enjoy it and that I would do well here, so it was nothing but good things to say.”

While things have gone well with Wiley and the rest of the team, one thing Winston hasn’t experienced yet is the home crowd for a Jerusalem game in the EuroCup. Games in the EuroCup have not been played in Israel since October 2023, but that will change on December 9 when Jerusalem hosts Veolia Towers Hamburg. 

"Oh, man. It's super exciting. I've seen how the fans get here for our \[Israeli League\] home games, so I know they're going to show up for those games too, and it's going to be cool to add that environment to the EuroCup games,” he said. 

“It's kind of hard going out there and playing in empty gyms with no fans. So to have that extra support, an extra teammate with us, it's going to be a huge lift for us.”

Jerusalem has already shown it can challenge for the EuroCup title, but Winston believes EuroCup games at home in Israel will make a major difference. 

“I think it changes the whole dynamic. You don’t have to travel. You can be at home, prepare for the games on a more normal normal schedule. I can only imagine how much this will help us as a team from top to bottom,” he said. 

Winston captured a Big Ten regular season crown and Big Ten Tournament title with Michigan State. And he helped Bayern win the German Cup and Jerusalem secure the 2025 Israeli Super Cup. But there is still that elusive league crown on the European continent, as well as a possible EuroCup championship, to fight for. And that push will become stronger now that Jerusalem's home fans are back at EuroCup games.
