BC Wolves got their first win of the 2024-25 EuroCup season after defeating Joventut Badalona 63-86 on the road in Round 3.

Wolves roar back to sink Joventut, 63-86, claiming first win of the season

Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius celebrated their first victory of the season in the BKT EuroCup as they tore apart strong favorites Joventut Badalona on the road, 63-86, thanks to a majestic display from guard Anthony Cowan, who scored a game-high 26 points.

The result means that Wolves improved to 1-3 in Group A while Joventut dropped to 2-2, having been stunned on its home court after a lackluster performance.

Former Joventut player Andrew Andrews, who featured for the Spanish side last season, added 17 points for Wolves, while Treshawn Thurman chipped in with 10 points. At the other end, Croatians Ante Tomic and Michael Ruzic paced Joventut with 11 points each on a night the home side will soon want to forget. 

Wearing a special edition of pink kits as part of a campaign aimed at battling breast cancer, Joventut got off to a slow start and trailed 15-25 late in the first quarter as Cowan netted 10 points for Wolves in the opening period. The home team hit back with a 15-0 run as it kept the visitors scoreless in the opening 6:13 minutes of the second quarter, with Tomic doing some damage in the paint.

However, the resilient Wolves replied shortly before halftime and took a slender 35-36 into the locker room at the interval, setting the tone for a lop-sided second half in which they ripped the hosts apart.

With Cowan and Andrews on fire, Wolves knocked down 6 three-pointers in the third quarter and raced clear into a 50-64 lead ahead of the final 10 minutes, as Joventut continued to struggle from the foul line as well as from the floor. 

The visitors kept their feet on the gas in the fourth and eventually carved out their biggest lead of the night, 58-84, with the Joventut home fans booing their team off the court after the final buzzer.

Looking at the score late in the fourth quarter, with Buducnost VOLI Podgorica leading 86-81 against Trefl Sopot in the final minute of regulation, you could have thought it had been a close game at Moraca on Wednesday night. Jaroslaw Zyskowski had a lot to do with it.

Buducnost and its second-quarter defense spoiled Zyskowski’s career night 

Looking at the score late in the fourth quarter, with Buducnost VOLI Podgorica leading 86-81 against Trefl Sopot in the final minute of regulation, you could have thought it had been a close game at Moraca on Wednesday night. That five-point point gap was the closest Trefl could get in the last 29 minutes of the game, though, as the hosts had been dominating all game long and even built a 20-point difference before halftime (46-26, min 18).

What happened? [Jaroslaw Zyskowski](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jaroslaw-zyskowski/013295/) had a lot to do with it. The Polish forward destroyed all his previous records in the competition by scoring 33 points with an impressive stat line: 4 for 4 on two-pointers, 5 for 6 from beyond the arc, and 10 free throws made from 12 attempts. Zyskowski scored 17 points in the last period and finished with a career-high 37 PIR, but Buducnost managed to prevent the comeback and [ended up winning 92-83](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/buducnost-shuts-down-trefl-to-grab-second-win-92-83/).

“I expected a tough game, and it was a tough game,” Buducnost head coach Andrej Zakelj recognized after the game. “I think we went into the second half too much relaxed, not tough enough. We allowed them to feel that they could play. So, this was the problem."

That relaxation could be explained by how his team approached the second quarter and the outcome it got from it. Right before Zyskowski’s first three, which made it 29-25 after 11 minutes, Buducnost geared up on defense and held Trefl scoreless for the next seven minutes, while it didn’t allow a single field goal in eight minutes. As such, the hosts’ lead increased to 46-26 and set the foundations for the final win.

In that second quarter, Buducnost forced Trefl to make just 1-of-8 two-point attempts, 2-of-9 shots from three, and just 2-of-4 free throws. Buducnost also outrebounded Trefl 14-7, leaving it with a team PIR of just 2 for those 10 minutes. That extraordinarily defensive performance in the second quarter was money in the bank for the remainder of the game.

“If you play defense, then you play offense,” Zakelj assured. “But in the end, I must say it was not an easy game for us. It was pressure. We had to win, and we won.”

The Trefl forward scored 33, but the Polish side was limited to just 2 free throws in an eight-minute spell in the second period

Valencia Basket grabbed its fourth win in as many games in the BKT EuroCup after defeating 105-83 Umana Reyer Venice at La Fontenta on Thursday evening. Despite missing Chris Jones and Stefan Jovic at point guard, the hosts managed to take control of the game early in the second quarter and never looked back. Valencia improved to 4-0 as Reyer, which was without injured players Xavier Munford, Tyler Ennis, Jordan Parks and Davide Casarin, dropped to 1-3 after losing three in a row.

Aris even took a double-digit lead (45-35) midway through the third quarter, but the Israeli side outscored the Greeks 29-46 in the second half. With this win, Jerusalem extended its winning streak to three games and improved its record to 3-1. Meanwhile, Aris dropped to 1-3 following its second home loss.

After a series of lead changes late in the third and early in the fourth quarter, a triple from Maxime Courby gave Bourg 55-53 advantage and the hosts held that lead for good. Bourg prevailed thanks to its defense, which allowed only one field goal over a span of 4 minutes late in the game. Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem came away with a 68-78 victory at Aris Midea Thessaloniki in Round 3 of the 2024-25 BKT EuroCup season on Wednesday evening. The visitors got off to a solid start and took a 17-23 lead into the second quarter, but Aris held Jerusalem to 9 points and turned the game around for a 39-32 cushion at halftime. Aris even took a double-digit lead (45-35) midway through the third quarter, but the Israeli side outscored the Greeks 29-46 in the second half. With this win, Jerusalem extended its winning streak to three games and improved its record to 3-1. Meanwhile, Aris dropped to 1-3 following its second home loss.

Jared Harper paired his 14 points with 15 assists, but it was Justin Smith who led Jerusalem in scoring with 18 points. Chris Johnson and Austin Wiley chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively. For the losing side, David DeJulius scored a game-high 30 points, with Vassilis Toliopoulos adding 16.

DeJulius netted Aris’ first 5 points and Landers Nolley scored a layup in transition for a 7-2 lead. Yet, Jerusalem went on a 13-2 surge inspired by Wiley and Johnson, who took his tally to 9 early points and made it 9-15. The hosts responded with buckets from Trey Woodbury and Joshua Roberts but triples from Jeremy Morgan and Kenneth Smith extended Jerusalem’s lead to 13-21. Toliopoulos opened his account with a midrange jumper and D'Moi Hodge scored from inside, but Justin Smith replied with a bucket of his own for a 17-23 cushion after 10 minutes.

DeJulius scored 3 points to open the second quarter before a layup from Eleftherios Bochoridis pulled Aris within 22-25. Jared Harper struggled to find his range in the first 15 minutes, but he produced 5 assists, one of which set up Austin, who made it 22-29. Yet, DeJulius responded with three straight buckets from inside to take his tally to 16 points before a hook from James Banks put Aris in front, 30-29. With the Palais De Sports buzzing, Toliopoulos stepped up and netted the next 7 Aris points before De Julius made 2 of 2 from the line for a 39-32 cushion.

Replicating what he did in the previous two quarters, DeJulius scored Aris’ first points in the third too with a midrange jumper. Then, Nolley and Georgios Gkiouzelis produced one slam each to extend Aris’ lead to 45-35. Yet, Harper completed a three-point play before baskets from Justin Smith and Johnson brought Jerusalem within 47-43. Jerusalem didn’t manage to score a field goal in the last two minutes of the third quarter, but a few made free throws allowed the visitors to trim the deficit to 51-48 heading into the fourth.

Triples from Morgan and Yovel Zoosman put Jerusalem ahead, with Harper reaching 12 assists as he inspired the visitors to a 4-14 run that allowed them to grab a 55-64 lead. Then, Harper nailed his first triple of the night, but Toliopoulos responded with one of his own on the other end to make it 62-69 with 4 minutes to go. But Jerusalem had an extra surge in the closing quarter, with Justin Smith taking his tally to 16 points from the line for a 62-73 cushion that allowed Jerusalem to comfortably see out the game in crunch time.

Buducnost VOLI notched its second win in the 2024-25 EuroCup season – and first at home – as it beat Trefl Sopot 92-83 in Round 4.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica managed to clinch its first home win of the BKT EuroCup season after downing Trefl Sopot 86-74 at Moraca on Wednesday night. A terrific second quarter, in which the home team left Trefl scoreless for more than seven minutes, set the foundations for the victory. The hosts got their second in a row to improve to 2-2, while the visitors remain winless after four rounds.

Kenan Kamenjas paced the winners with 18 points. Fletcher Magee followed with 17, Rasheed Sulaimon had 14, and Nikola Tanaskovic and McKinley Wright chipped in 10 apiece. Jaroslaw Zyskowski led all scorers with career-high 33 points, Tarik Phillip had 16, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, and Geoffrey Grosselle contributed 10 and 5 boards in the losing effort.

Both teams started red-hot on offense, scoring on every possession, with Sulaimon and Phillip leading the way for each team. Despite struggling to control the rebounding battle early in the game, the hosts managed to build a 15-10 edge right before the first timeout, having taken advantage of Trefl’s turnovers and the free-throw line. With Phillip as the only one able to score for the visitors, Buducnost found inside points by Kamenjas, good for a 19-12 advantage that increased to 29-20 at the end of the first period behind back-to-back triples by Juwan Morgan and Sulaimon.

The break seemed to be a good thing for Trefl, which reduced the distance to 29-25 in the first 50 seconds after the game resumed. Buducnost head coach Andrej Zakelj immediately stopped the game with a timeout to avoid a rally, and the result was something only a few could have expected. The hosts completely shut down Trefl, preventing their opponent from getting a field goal for the next eight minutes. Five points in a row by McGee sparked a 15-0 run that allowed Buducnost to escape, 44-25. When Jaroslaw Zyskowski managed to end the drought and give Trefl some momentum, the home team was already far away and comfortably dominating, 48-30, at halftime.

Trefl tried to start strong to get back into the game early in the second half, but despite Aaron Best finally hitting from beyond the arc to help his team come within 51-35, a couple of unsportsmanlike fouls – one for each team – slowed down the game and Buducnost took advantage of it to escape again, 55-37. Then Grosselle and Zyskowski took over for Sopot to make it 55-43. The joy didn’t last long for the visitors, as McKinley Wright and Howard showed up from outside to help Buducnost recover its momentum, 63-47. Five points in a row by Marcus Weathers broke the trend, though, and Trefl managed to reach the last stanza with some hope, 63-52.

Zyskowsky kept rocking for Trefl after the game resumed, which made it a single-digit disadvantage for the visitors for the first time since the second period, 65-56. With eight minutes still to play, Buducnost stopped the game again, but Zyskowski’s third triple made it even tighter, 67-59, right after that. Buducnost didn’t panic, though, as a timely three-pointer by McGee cut the bleeding and calmed down the home crowd. Recovering a double-digit lead seemed to reactivate Buducnost on offense, as another scoring spurt by Magee made it 79-65 with four minutes to play. Trefl didn’t give up and kept looking for a red-hot Zyskowski, who ended up scoring 19 points in the last period, but the hosts never allowed their opponent to come dangerously close. The game entered crunch time with a 84-72 score, and even though an unsportsmanlike foul called on Yogi Ferrell and the fifth three of Zyskowski made it 86-81 in the last minute, an offensive rebound and a basket by Kamenjas finished the game off.

A 15-0 run early in the second period saw the hosts take control

Odiase scored a career-best 24 points while also grabbing 7 rebounds and recording 1 block for a career-high PIR of 29 in Bahcesehir’s 110-70 win in Group A. The 29-year-old American eclipsed his previous bests of 19 points and 25 PIR from last season while playing for Prometey Slobozhanske.

“I want to thank my amazing teammates. Without them I wouldn’t have had the game that I had,” Odiase said afterward. “I have amazing teammates that look out for me each and every day – in the game and in practice. And I just can’t thank them enough.

“We came out here and stuck to our principles, played amazing defense and got the win.”

While Odiase set two personal highs, Bahcesehir broke five club records in the impressive showing.

Its 110 points beat the team’s 108 points in a 108-74 win over Umana Reyer Venice in 2020-21, while its 37 points in the second quarter were the club’s most in a single quarter, topping the 35 points it scored in the second quarter in that same game against Reyer.

Bahcesehir also set a club record with its 63 first-half points, flying past the 54 points the team scored in both halves of the same game versus Reyer. The 63 points Dejan Radonjic’s men scored tied for 10th all-time for the most points in a EuroCup first half.

The 40-point final difference also meant a new mark, topping Bahcesehir’s 34-point winning margin against Reyer four seasons ago.

And the final record set was Bahcesehir grabbing 17 offensive rebounds against Trento. The team’s previous best was 14 offensive rebounds in the 2020-21 season. Odiase played a big role in that with 4 offensive boards while [Furkan Haltali](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/furkan-haltali/012405/) finished with 5 offensive rebounds.

Bahcesehir College Istanbul bounced back from its close loss last week by rolling to a 110-70 home victory over Dolomiti Energia Trento in Group A. After falling in Round 3 to Dreamland Gran Canaria, Bahcesehir blew the game open against the Italian side with a club-record 37 points in the second quarter, leading to a club record 63 points in the first half and 110 total points, another club record.

The Turkish side improved to 3-1 thanks to five players scoring in double figures. Tai Odiase led the way with 24 points, CJ Massinburg had 20 points, Axel Bouteille 12 and Marko Simonovic and Tyler Cavanaugh both chipped in 10 points. Trento fell to 1-3 despite Jordan Ford tallying 16 points and Anthony Lamb and Jordan Bayehe adding 13 points each.

The early going saw a scoring shootout between Massinburg, who scored 7 points as Bahcesehir led 11-7, and Lamb, who scored 4 points for the guests. Lamb added 4 more points in a 0-7 spurt to give Trento an 11-14 lead. A 7-0 run at the other end put the home side ahead and Bahcesehir led 26-25 after 10 minutes.

Trento was down just 28-27 before going scoreless for nearly four minutes and Bahcesehir reeled off 14 straight points to lead 42-27. The cushion grew to 20 points, 51-31, after a 9-2 spurt for the hosts. Cavanaugh drained back-to-back triples and Bahcesehir just kept rolling, going into halftime with a commanding lead, 63-39.

The hosts did not slow down early in the second half, using an 11-4 surge to increase its advantage to 31 points, 74-43. Ford knocked down two three-pointers to make it 76-53 as Trento tried to make it look more respectable. Bahcesehir picked things back up and led 83-55 after 30 minutes.

Trento was fighting to at least make it a 20-point deficit, cutting the gap at one point to 87-61. Yet, Bahcesehir made sure the guests didn’t get any thoughts of challenging by going on a 16-3 run that built the lead to 103-64 with three minutes left. Come the final buzzer, Dejan Radonjic’s men had won by 40 points, 110-70, and sent a message to the rest of the EuroCup in the process.

The Turkish side flexed its muscles in Round 4

Turk Telekom Ankara has confirmed the signing of Braian Angola, who joins from Hapoel Tel Aviv BC.

Angola (1.98 meters, 30 years old) joins from Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv, where he appeared in one BKT EuroCup game this season, playing just 5:30 minutes. He enjoyed an impressive 2023-24 campaign with the team, however, averaging 11.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals across 16 EuroCup appearances.

He has represented Oostende in Belgium (2019-20), Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade in Serbia (2020-21), Ironi Nes Ziona (2020-21) and Hapoel (2023-24) in Israel, AEK Athens in Greece (2021-22), and Galatasaray Istanbul (2022-23) and Pinar Karsiyaka (2022-23) in Turkiye.

Now he returns to Turkiye to play for the third Turkish club in his career.

Hapoel Jerusalem guard Jared Harper has made a habit of getting to the free-throw line, which has reaped rewards for both him and his team in the 2024-25 EuroCup season.

Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem has got off to a 2-1 start on its return to the BKT EuroCup, having won its last two games by a combined margin of 35 points. And the team has done it behind guard [Jared Harper](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jared-harper/011970/), who has had a stellar start to the season – the best of anyone in the competition, in fact.

Entering Round 4, with Jerusalem visiting Aris Midea Thessaloniki on Wednesday night, Harper leads the EuroCup with 23.0 points per game and is the only player averaging more than 20 points, while he also tops the charts with an average PIR of 26.0.

Harper is posting 4.3 assists per game, second best on the team heading into Round 4, but where he has stood out head and shoulders above any other player in the competition is with his ability to get to the free-throw line.

The former Valencia Basket guard attempts 13.7 foul shots per game and makes 12.7 per contest. To understand how much that stands out, the next best player averages 8.3 free-throw attempts, with no player making more than 5.3 free throws per game.

Through three rounds, Harper alone has made 38 free throws, which is more than six entire teams, including Wednesday night’s opponent, Aris. Just for comparison, last season saw just 31 players make more free throws during the entire regular season than what Harper has made so far, with 15 games still to go.

He has done it by marveling at not just drawing personal fouls, but drawing free throws. His 26 drawn fouls, while the most in the competition, are not that much more than what some other players have drawn. Notably, the majority of the fouls Harper has drawn have sent him to the free-throw line.

It all puts Harper in a rare category of players who have attempted more free throws (38) than field goals (37) so far this season, but none of the other eight players have averaged better than 10.0 points through the first three rounds.

Having scored 27 points in Jerusalemn’s season-opening loss against Valencia, he then followed up that performance with 23 points and 5 assists in a 74-94 win at 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys before scoring 19 points and dishing 6 assists in a win over Veolia Hamburg Towers last week.

Harper will now be looking to continue his high-scoring, highly productive season-opening run on Wednesday night in Thessaloniki.
