Two veterans in their first BKT EuroCup seasons, [Gabe Olaseni](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/gabe-olaseni/006600/) of London Lions and [TJ Shorts](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/tj-shorts/012608/) of Paris Basketball, showcased dominant performances to lead their teams to away victories and, with performance index ratings of 32 apiece, become co-MVPs for Round 10. The London big man scored 23 points, making 8 of 12 two-pointers and 7 of 11 free throws, and pulled down 12 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. Olaseni had 5 offensive boards, dished 2 assists, made 1 steal and drew 7 fouls. This is the first such award for Olaseni, but third this season and second consecutively for London. 

Shorts poured in 24 points for Paris on 7-for-12 two-point, 2-for-4 three-point and 4-for-6 free-throw shooting. He dished a personal-best 11 assists, and also had a steal and 7 drawn fouls, earning him his second MVP nod of the season.

The next-best PIR, 27, belonged to both Prometey Slobozhanske center [Ondrej Balvin](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/ondrej-balvin/002644/) and Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul guard [Jonah Mathews](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jonah-mathews/011936/). In an 83-97 road win over Veolia Towers Hamburg, Balvin was busy collecting 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks in 22 minutes on the floor. Mathews had 28 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in an 81-85 home loss against Joventut Badalona. 

Rounding out the list of this week's top performances are Joventut's [Andres Feliz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/andres-feliz/011247/) and Slask Wroclaw center [Dusan Miletic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/dusan-miletic/009896/), each with a 26 PIR. Feliz had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals against Besiktas, while Miletic collected 20 points, 5 rebounds in a 63-72 home loss against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica knew what it was hoping for when it acquired [Yogi Ferrell](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yogi-ferrell/011281/) to be its lead playmaker. And the proven point guard flashed his pedigree in carrying his new team to victory in his first game.

Ferrell’s signing with the Montenegrin side was announced on November 29, and a week later the 30-year-old starred for his new team with 14 points in [an 81-83 victory at 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/7bet-lietkabelis-panevezys-buducnost-voli-podgorica/U2023/98/). 

Ferrell played suffocating defense for the first half but really couldn’t get much scoring. But he shined when it counted most, hitting 2 three-pointers and adding 4 free throws in the final 95 seconds. 

“We all know who Yogi Ferrell is,” Buducnost head coach Andrej Zakelj said of Ferrell, who also contributed 1 rebound and 1 assist. “Maybe he’s not in the right rhythm, but he only had one practice with us. For sure he has qualities and when we put him in the system and everyone adjusts to him this will be even better.” 

Ferrell joined the Montenegro side with five games of experience in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with Panathinaikos Athens and played the last two seasons in the EuroCup with Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana.

Ferrell, who also has 259 games in the over five seasons, had started the 2023-24 season with the Shanghai Sharks. 

Ferrell’s presence played a big role in Buducnost finally playing well again in the third quarter. Buducnost had outscored its opponents in the third quarter in its first three games of the season.

But the Montenegrin side was outscored out of halftime in five of the next six games, including 11-22 and 10-26 third quarters. 

Against Lietkabelis, Buducnost took the third frame 22-17 to help lay the foundation for the win. 

“Our third quarters this year have been really tough so we just wanted to make sure that we came out and shared the ball, played hard on defense and just play off our defense and not think about our offense,” added Marvin Jones, who paced Buducnost with 15 points. “We are really underachieving so we want to get every win.”

Things will certainly be a bit easier with Ferrell on board.

Buducnost VOLI defeated Lietkabelis Panevezys 81-83 in Round 10 of the 2023-24 EuroCup season, with the visitors using three-pointers and offensive rebounds as part of its winning recipe.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica used its second half three-point shooting and perimeter defense, as well as offensive rebounding, to pick up its first road victory of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup Regular Season.

Buducnost made 7-of-13 three-pointers in the final 20 minutes as it grabbed [an 81-83 win at 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/buducnost-outlasts-lietkabelis-81-83-for-first-road-win/) to improve to 4-6 in Group B. That came after the Montenegrin side had struggled from long range, having made just 1-of-9 three-point attempts in the first half.

"In the second half, we tried to be more aggressive on offense. In the first half, we were too slow,” said Buducnost head coach Andrej Zakelj.

"I think we won because over long stretches of the game we were more focused. We got some stops on defense and built a lead. In the end, we were a little bit less focused. That’s why the end happened. But it’s a good win and now we move on.”

### Buducnost stepped it up on defense

Coach Zakelj can be happy about his team’s perimeter defense, holding Lietkabelis to just 10-of-31 three-pointers for 32.3%. That is well below the 40.8% Buducnost was allowing opponents to shoot from long range, which ranked 18th in the competition. Lietkabelis also had made 42.2% of its three-pointers, the second-best shooting team in the EuroCup.

Buducnost also was uncharacteristically strong on the offensive glass with 11 offensive rebounds, 1.9 more than the team’s average coming into the game, ranked 17th. Lietkabelis also grabbed 9 offensive rebounds, 2.2 fewer than it had averaged thus far. And Buducnost used its opportunities for 16 second-chance points, compared to 9 for Lietkabelis.

“We were just focused. We came out focused from the beginning to the end. We played hard and played together,” said Buducnost big man Marvin Jones, who led the team with 15 points and added 6 rebounds in the win.

The ratiopharm Ulm boss knows that his team has work to do if it plans to make a deep run into the EuroCup Playoffs this season. 

Coach Gavel, Ulm: 'We need to play smarter when up late'

ratiopharm Ulm appeared to have the game in hand but nearly ended up giving it away, barely holding on 83-85 at Dolomiti Energia Trento. Ulm head coach Anton Gavel said his team must learn how to play smarter in those situations if it wants to go deep into the playoffs.

Ulm was in a battle for most of the game at Trento but managed to build a 70-79 lead with 3 minutes to go after a Thomas Klepeisz three-pointer. 

Trento got 5 quick points from Andrejs Grazulis and Kamar Baldwin’s three-pointer pulled the hosts to within 83-84 with 3.9 seconds left. Baldwin nearly pulled off the miracle win but his long banked-in three-pointer came after the final buzzer.

Quinn Ellis's game-winning heroics against Aris again suggested he is a rising force to be reckoned with for Trento and could be key to their hopes. They entertain Ulm, who themselves boast plenty of emerging talent, with star guard Juan Nunez reaching a PIR of at least 15 in each of the last five outings.

“Once we have a 9-point lead, we have to be smarter out there. We were just panicking a little bit. And that gave them a chance to get back into the game. We just have to be smarter. Also defensively there were some situations where we didn’t look good,” said Gavel. “We have to manage the game the right way. It’s not the first time that has happened.”

Ulm in Round 5 had trailed Slask Wroclaw by 13 points late in the third quarter and then pulled ahead by 7 points with just more than 3 minutes left in the game.

The German side failed to hold the lead and watched as Slask tied the game and sent it overtime. Ulm eventually won the game 108-103 after an extra session.

“Offensively we have to be willing to move the ball a little more. On the defensive end, we showed progress from the last games but we’re still not perfect,” Gavel said after the Trento game.

Ulm shot very well on two-pointers (63.6%) but struggled from the outside, making just 23.8% of its three-pointers. And the reigning German champion committed 18 turnovers while forcing only 13.

“Yes we are happy that we got a win, but there were a lot of mistakes that were made. We didn't really handle the pressure very well. We gotta get better continuing this journey,” Gavel added.

When Joventut Badalona had a 3-5 record after eight games in this season’s BKT EuroCup, there were all sorts of discussions going on about last year’s semifinalist. The injury bug hit Joventut hard, while a decision was made to cut ties with center Chinanu Onuaku prior to Round 6. So, with Carles Duran’s team having now won back-to-back games to improve to 5-5, should the rest of the EuroCup be worried?

The short answer: yes. Not only are several of Joventut’s injured players now available once again, but there appears to be a far better harmony among the squad. What’s more, the club’s injury crisis gave some of its young prospects – namely Ruben Prey, Jordi Rodriguez and Michael Ruzic – a chance to shine, which has further enhanced Coach Duran’s options.

### Andres Feliz is the key

The best news of all has been the return of Andres Feliz. The Dominican Republic international missed Rounds 3 through 7, during which time Joventut went 2-3, and he showed against Besiktas Emlakjet Istanbul just why he is so crucial for the Badalona-based team. In [an 81-85 victory in Round 10](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/joventut-badalona-grabs-impressive-road-win-at-besiktas-basketbol-81-85/), Feliz scored a team-high 21 points, but he also contributed 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, which are all more than any other Joventut player.

Coming off a summer in which Feliz showed the world his talent at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, it seems the 26-year-old has taken a big step forward at club level as well. His energy on the court is infectious and, as he showed on multiple occasions against Besiktas, he is a player who makes winning plays. Joventut is a team with several high-level players, including Ante Tomic, Andrew Andrews and Deshaun Thomas, but Feliz has a habit of making himself stand out.

“It was a great victory for us – we needed it against a pretty good opponent,” Feliz said after Wednesday’s contest at BJK Emlakjet Sports & Event Hall. “They were playing at home in front of their crowd, so we managed to battle through that and we got a much-needed win.

“The love and the confidence the team shows in me is tremendous. I just want to give them all the credit, because without them I couldn’t have \[played like this\].”

### Joventut has found its groove

With two wins in a row, Joventut has moved up to fifth place in the Group A standings, albeit tied with the same 5-5 record as Prometey Slobozhanske in sixth. There’s no denying that with most of its roster healthy, the Spanish team has the chance to continue its momentum in the next few weeks.

Joventut, if it plays to its potential, has the chance to rack up some more wins as it takes on Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana (Round 11) and Umana Reyer Venice (Round 13) at home, with trips to Wolves Vilnius (Round 12) and Veolia Towers Hamburg (Round 14) also squeezed in. the games against Reyer and the Wolves, in particular, will not be easy, but Joventut should enter those fixtures as the favorite.

Then comes a tricky end to the season, as Joventut plays four of the six teams currently in the Group A playoff spots to close the season: the London Lions (Round 15) and Paris Basketball (Round 16) on the road, Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv (Round 17) at home and then finally Prometey Slobozhanske (Round 18) in Latvia.

Therefore, continuing its momentum over the next few weeks is going to be crucial if Joventut is to achieve its first objective of reaching the EuroCup Playoffs. The good news for Coach Duran is that he now has Feliz making a strong case to be named in one of the All-EuroCup teams, while the likes of Andrews, Thomas, Tomic, Tyler Cook and Pep Busquets are all capable of making sizeable contributions.

Should everyone stay healthy, Joventut is a team that nobody in Group A is going to look forward to facing.

Apart from a couple of possessions in the opening moments of the game, and one possession in the third quarter, Hapoel was in front and in control the entire night. J'Covan Brown ran the offense with pace, and Hapoel never really had problems scoring.

"We locked down on couple of defensive possessions, that helped us get Jaka Blazic and D.J. Stewart out of their rhythm", Hapoel head coach Danny Franco said. "That helped us make a run."

Blazic had 15 points in the first half, but only 3 in the third quarter. And once Hapoel put together those few defensive stops, the visitors pulled away to a double-digit margin thanks to a balanced the offense that Cedevita could not slow down.

Five Hapoel players scored in double figures and three more scored at least 7 points. One of them was Brown who paired 8 points with 9 assists. And the only scorer below that mark was center Kyle Alexander who had 4 points but 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.

"It is about ourselves and how we are coming to the games", Franco said, referencing Hapoel's problems of finding its home away from home in Belgrade, and not having the entire team together.

But he said the offense, which is clicking, and the balance the team has found, is a product of a chemistry that they have.

"They are the guys who like to play together", Franco pointed out. "We have good chemistry, we have good guys, we have a lot of commitment. That togetherness is helping us a lot to win games."

Hapoel now sits alone in the third place in Group A with a 7-2 record despite being on the road in six of those games and has already put itself in good position to return to the playoffs in its second season in the competition.

Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv continued its winning ways, registering its third straight win on Wednesday, this time in the Slovenian capital where Hapoel took care of Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana 80-95.

Paris Basketball did not find much trouble to thrash Wolves Vilnius 79-110 in the Lithuanian capital to keep first place in Group A, now with a 9-1 record. Its perimeter players made the difference at Avia Solutions Group Arena.

T.J. Shorts matched a personal-best with 24 points, hitting 7 of 12 two-pointers and 2 of 4 three-pointers. He set a new career high with 11 assists to just 1 turnover, getting his second double-double of the season. Shorts's extreme efficiency sharing the ball remains Paris's biggest key to its 9-1 start. In 10 games, Shorts has dished 76 assists and picked up just 17 turnovers.

Wolves led 13-9 early in the game until Shorts decided he had enough. He had 10 points in a 0-17 run that put Paris ahead for good, 13-26. Shorts amassed 13 points and 5 assists in the opening 15 minutes, leading Paris to a 22-47 margin.

"It is a lot of fun. When you have a good group of guys in the locker room and you are doing what you love every day, you see the results. It is a lot of smiles. It is a lot of being happy for each other and just having fun," Shorts said after the game. "We know we have a tough schedule but this is what we all signed up for. At the end of the week, you just want to finish strong and today, we were able to come home with the win."

Tj Shorts and Nadir Hifi each scored 24 points to lead Paris Basketball to a 79-110 victory over Wolves Vilnius.

At that point of the game, Hifi had buried his third three-pointer to give Paris a 25-point lead. Hifi kept knocking down shots until he returned to the bench for good late in the fourth quarter. He finished the game with 24 points on 6-for-9 shooting from downtown, scoring in double-digits for the 10th time in as many games and reaching the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season. The 21-year-old has already buried 6 three-pointers twice this season.

Shorts and Hifi allowed Paris to get its seventh road win in as many games. Its fans are now in for a treat: Paris plays its next four games at home, and they will have a chance to see two of the most spectacular players in the competition way more often than before.
