Since becoming the EuroCup champion last year, Gran Canaria has picked up where it left off and is currently on an 18-game winning streak in the competition. Ulm, meanwhile, has found its groove with a youthful roster, as it continues to impress under second-year head coach Anton Gavel.

### Ulm will be a tough test for Gran Canaria

Ulm may not have the depth that Gran Canaria can boast, but it does have many up-and-coming players that can cause the Spanish team some damage. Point guard [Juan Nunez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/juan-nunez/010106/) has come into his own during this campaign, for example, as the 19-year-old is averaging 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.9 steals while conducting the team’s offense.

Fellow youngster [Pacome Dadiet](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/pacome-dadiet/011457/), who is just 18, has also shown glimpses of what he is capable of, scoring a career-high 14 points against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse in Round 9. There is the 19-year-old [Tobias Jensen](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/tobias-jensen/010726/), too, who scored 7 points last week against Dolomiti Energia Trento in his most minutes on the court this season (14:47).

Even the 23-year-old [Trevion Williams](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/trevion-lamon-williams-/012604/), who is still on the younger side, has come into the EuroCup as a walking double-double, posting 14.6 points and 11.8 boards in nine games. In fact, he has hit double digits in points in all nine of his appearances, and he’s only not grabbed a double-digit number of rebounds twice. Williams’s average PIR of 22.9 is the best in the entire EuroCup, while he also leads the way for rebounds.

Then, there’s the 25-year-old [LJ Figueroa](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/lj-figueroa/012603/), another EuroCup rookie who has come in and made an immediate impact. He is averaging 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals, which shows the all-around nature of his game. In a win at Trento last week, Figueroa led Ulm by scoring a season-high 20 points. The 26-year-old [Karim Jallow](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/karim-jallow/005422/) is having another strong season with Ulm, too, having netted 10 points or more in seven of his 10 appearances.

Add in the scoring threats of the 28-year-old [Dakota Mathias](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/dakota-mathias/012629/) and the 32-year-old [Thomas Klepeisz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/thomas-klepeisz/010582/), the two oldest players on the team, and it makes for quite the squad for Coach Gavel. There is a fearlessness that comes with youth, and that is certainly something that Ulm has been able to tap into during this season.

On paper, it looks like an almost task to defeat Gran Canaria at the moment, while Tuesday night’s visitors arrive knowing that they won comfortably against Ulm, 111-82, back in Round 2. But, in front of what should be a decent-sized crowd inside ratiopharm arena, where the hosts are 4-1, Ulm will be hoping that it can cause an upset and send Gran Canaria home unhappy.

### Jaka Lakovic returns ‘home’

After getting his first full-time job as a head coach and staying there for three years, Gran Canaria boss Jaka Lakovic will return to Ulm for the first time since leaving the club in the summer of 2022.

Lakovic’s Ulm failed to make the EuroCup playoffs in his first two seasons at the club, but in his final year in charge, the 2021-22 campaign, it reached the quarterfinals. Notably, Ulm defeated Joventut Badalona, one of the favorites to go all the way, in the eighthfinals before falling to Virtus Segafredo Bologna, the eventual champion, in the next round.

Lakovic is sure to get a fantastic reception back at ratiopharm arena, but once the ball goes up in the air, it will be business as usual. As noted, Gran Canaria is in the midst of an 18-game winning streak bridging last season and the current campaign, and history is in the Spanish team’s sights.

Gran Canaria’s run of 18 games without defeat is the fourth-longest run in competition history, and winning at Ulm would give Coach Lakovic’s squad the chance to tie the all-time record of 20 wins, which has been achieved on three occasions: Lokomotiv Kuban (April 13, 2013, to March 18, 2015), Lokomotiv Kuban again (October 11, 2017, to March 23, 2018), and Virtus (March 5, 2020, to April 6, 2021).

As the outright leader in Group B, Gran Canaria will fancy its chances against Ulm, which is currently fourth but shares its 7-3 record with third-placed U-BT Cluj-Napoca. Nevertheless, Coach Gavel’s Ulm will not feel overawed by taking on Coach Lakovic’s winning machine, so everything is to play for. Make sure to tune in from 19:00 CET to see how it all plays out.

Aris Midea Thessaloniki beefed up its backcourt by signing [Jonathan Stark](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jonathan-stark/012792/). The veteran playmaker began the season with Israeli club Hapoel Haifa, but did not appear in any games for the team. Stark (1.84 meters, 28 years old) played for Orleans in the French second division last season and averaged 12.3 points and 5.1 assists. He will make his BKT EuroCup debut with Aris.

Stark played college basketball at Tulane and Murray State. He was the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in his final season, 2017-18, as a teammate of Ja Morant. Stark began his professional career in the G-League with the Iowa Wolves and has played in Europe in Germany (Giessen), Hungary (Alba Fehervar) and France.

That means getting points from your cheapest players, picking up others when they are hot and getting the superstars that you can afford. As we head into Round 11, there are players who fit those criteria available. Before you finalize your team, consider these options.  

[Kamar Baldwin, Dolomiti Energia Trento](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/kamar-baldwin/012597/) (11.0 credits) – It looks like Kamar Baldwin has found his groove. The combo-guard, who in playing his first EuroCup season, missed a pair of games early in the season and only posted a PIR of double figures once in his first five appearances. Since then, however, Baldwin has averaged 14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.0 steals for a PIR of 19.7 over his last three games. He is now the go-to guy in the Trento backcourt. 

[Sam Dekker, London Lions](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/sam-dekker/009672/) (15.1 credits) – This is a calculated risk. When healthy, Dekker is a dominant fantasy – and real life – force. Since his return from injury, Dekker has played limited minutes (12:44 per game) and as a result, his fantasy price has dropped by 0.7 credits. He played nearly double that in the British League on Friday and was in uniform for 14 more minutes in domestic action on Sunday. This week London plays Hamburg, which has allowed the most points in the EuroCup this season (96.9 ppg.). This may be the time to invest in Dekker. 

EuroCup Round 11 Fantasy tips

[L.J. Figueroa, ratiopharm Ulm](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/lj-figueroa/012603/) (11.8 credits) – Here are three encouraging facts about LJ Figueroa. He is coming off his best game (20 points, 23 PIR). His previous best game came against this week’s opponent, Dreamland Gran Canaria, in Round 2 (19 points, 20 PIR). His last three games have been his best three-game stretch of the season with averages of 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals, PIR 17.3. Is it Figueroa time? 

[Marvin Jones, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/marvin-jones/010248/) (9.4 credits) – Marvin Jones’s role in the Buducnost offense has grown in recent weeks. He has averaged 18.5 points and 4.0 rebounds for a PIR of 22.5 over his last two appearances. Jones has taken at least 10 shots in both of those games after not attempting more than 7 in any previous game this season. Jones struggled against this week’s opponent, Turk Telekom Ankara, in Round 2 with a PIR of -2, however, this is a home game and Jones, Buducnost and Turk Telekom are in different places today than they were in early October. 

[Jovan Kljajic, Dreamland Gran Canaria](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jovan-kljajic/007560/) (4.6 credits) – One of the best cheap options in the game is Jovan Kljajic, who has continued to offer very good production for his price in recent weeks. Since Round 8, he has averaged 7.7 points and a PIR of 8.3. The outside shots have not been falling; Kljajic is shooting just 17.4% from downtown. Imagine what might happen if he heats up? Plus, Kljajic plays on Tuesday this week, so there is little risk. 

Bourg puts perfect home record on the line against Trento

Veteran big man [Paul Biligha](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/paul-biligha/009903/) led Trento's resistance with 17 points on that occasion, and the Italian team will need his size and experience to pull out a shock road win this week.

After becoming the EuroCup champion last season for the first time in club history, Gran Canaria has continued its momentum by going 10-0 through the first 10 games of the 2023-24 campaign. ### Gran Canaria has history in its sights

As stated above, Gran Canaria has currently gone 18 games without defeat in the EuroCup, so where does that stand up historically?

Well, that is the fourth-best record in competition history, and it has only been bettered on three occasions by two clubs, who won 20 games in a row: Lokomotiv Kuban (April 13, 2013, to March 18, 2015), Lokomotiv Kuban again (October 11, 2017, to March 23, 2018), and Virtus Segafredo Bologna (March 5, 2020, to April 6, 2021).

Therefore, should Gran Canaria defeat ratiopharm Ulm in Jaka Lakovic’s return to ratiopharm arena in Round 11 and then beat Dolomiti Energia Trento at Gran Canaria Arena in Round 12, the Spanish side would match the records set by Lokomotiv and Virtus.

Should everything go to plan for Coach Lakovic and Gran Canaria, the reigning EuroCup champion could break the all-time record with a victory on the road at Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse in Round 13 on December 26. If that were to happen, it would see Gran Canaria’s winning streak extend to 21 games and open a 13-0 record in Group A. It would be a nice Christmas present for the club’s fans, too.

### Gran Canaria isn’t just winning – it’s dominating

Impressively, following [last week’s blowout win at home to Aris Midea Thessaloniki, 93-65](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/unbeaten-gran-canaria-cruises-past-aris-93-65/), Gran Canaria has now won eight games this season by more than 10 points. What’s more, that triumph was the team’s third straight victory by 22 or more points, which goes to show just how dominant Gran Canaria has been so far this season.

"It's a long season, and we have to keep building and keep working," Coach Lakovic stated after the win against Aris.

There are two tricky road games before Gran Canaria could become the all-time leader for consecutive games won, but the team will just want to take things one step at a time. For now, it needs to focus on a tough test at Ulm.

After all, staying focused and continuing to play like it has this season should make this achievement a formality. Perhaps the destination of the EuroCup title is becoming a bit of a formality, too.
