Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse [took to the Hala Orbita court on Tuesday night](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/jl-bourg-en-bresse-beats-an-undermanned-slask-wroclaw-63-72/) looking to extend its winning streak to four games. Frederic Fauthoux’s side saw Dusan Miletic open the scoring in the first quarter, but that was Slask Wroclaw’s only lead in a game that Bourg ended up winning 63-72.

The guests were in cruise control throughout all four quarters and made the most of their second-chance opportunities and Slask’s turnovers to seal a road victory. In fact, Bourg scored 22 points off turnovers and another 16 second-chance points. This is more than half of the guests’ 72 points, as Bourg outscored Slask in each of the first three quarters: 16-20, 17-22 and 15-16.

Since grabbing its first EuroCup road win in 16 years, Slask seek further momentum at home against a Bourg outfit that has enjoyed an impressive first-half of the regular season thus far. Can the Polish side spring another surprise or will the guests claim another feat for 23/24?

### Bourg did enough to grab the win

Coming into the game without key players Kendale McCullum and Jakub Niziol, Slask made a gigantic effort to stay close but finally succumbed to a superior Bourg side. Coach Fauthoux admitted that this was not Bourg’s best game so far this season, but stressed that it was his team’s third road duel in a row across all competitions, something that may have affected the players physically and mentally.

“It wasn’t a good game, maybe because Slask had lots of injured players, maybe because it’s the third game on the road \[for us\] and we hadn’t come back home in the last eight days,” Fauthoux said during the post-game press conference.

Despite heading into Tuesday’s clash as the team averaging the third-least offensive rebounds (8.9), the second-least defensive boards (22.7) and the least total rebounds (31.6), Bourg managed to better its figures in all three categories. The visitors finished the game with 35 total rebounds, 25 defensive and 10 offensive, which was a huge boost in their bid to dictate the tempo of the game.

Bourg will finally return to Ekinox on Wednesday, when it takes on Dolomiti Energia Trento in Round 11 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup season. The French side is currently unbeaten at home (5-0) and it will look to extend its winning streak to five games when Trento comes to town.

The Ukrainian team led 54-74 at that moment and even had a 20-point margin, 66-86, with less than 6 minutes remaining.

Ronen Ginzburg’s side had showed much more power than its opponent to that point, as Hamburg had only enjoyed one short lead, 5-6, early in the game. From then on, Prometey encountered very few difficulties along the way as it opened a double-digit lead, even above the 20 point-mark in the second half (43-66 after 26 minutes).

“Compared to the previous game we played against them, we didn’t let them run on the fastbreak as much,” said Prometey center Ondrej Balvin after the game when asked his team’s superiority in the first part of the contest. “In the first game \[in Round 1\] we had big problems against that, but this time we able to manage it and we also covered our defensive rebounds better.”

### A late Hamburg comeback

But, when it seemed the outcome was sealed, the home team reacted, switching its defenses from man-to-man to zone, slowing Prometey down and punishing its opponent with a 15-2 run that made it a new game, 81-88, with 3 minutes left.

“I think we relaxed for a little bit,” Balvin explained. “They started making shots and good plays. We just needed to rest and get back in the game. And in the moment when Coach \[Ginzburg\] took the timeout, he spoke to us and we managed to handle it.”

Lowly Hamburg look to boost its faint playoffs ambitions against a Prometey team placed just outside the all-important top six. The hosts may try to compete through the outside shooting prowess of Aljami Durham, whereas the Ukrainians hope to exploit inside dominance via Yvacheslav Bobrov.

“We just lost focus on defense and on offense. We made mistakes, too many turnovers,” commented Coach Ginzburg. “On offense we were a little bit shaky, we let them three-point shots. I just calmed them down and, you know, tried to organize the game. And we did it.”

The London Lions continued their momentum in the BKT EuroCup by defeating Umana Reyer Venice 91-95 at Palasport Taliercio on Tuesday night. With its fifth straight win in the EuroCup, London improved to 8-2 overall and 5-0 on the road, while Reyer fell to a 4-6 record.

Gabe Olaseni paced London with a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double, with the Lions also having Matt Morgan score 19, Jordan Taylor net 13, Conor Morgan add 11 and Tarik Phillip contribute 10. Sam Dekker had 7 points but was ejected midway through the third quarter after picking up a technical foul, having been called for an unsportsmanlike foul earlier in the game. For Reyer, Rayjon Tucker finished with a team-high 20 points, followed by 17 apiece for Barry Brown and Kyle Wiltjer, 14 for Aamir Simms and 12 for Jordan Parks.

### Reyer raced out to a fast start

Tucker began the game at a different speed to everyone else, scoring all of Reyer's first 10 points as the hosts opened a 10-4 lead. When Jordan Parks dunked in transition after Marco Spissu stole the ball from Donte Grantham, 12-4, London head coach Petar Bozic immediately called a timeout. Matt Morgan gave the Lions a boost with 5 points on successive London possessions, 14-9, before draining a three a minute later to make it 18-15. Dekker was then called for an unsportsmanlike foul, with Tucker missing the technical free throw before knocking down a pair from the line, 20-15. By the end of first 10 minutes, Reyer led 30-25 as it managed to keep London at arm's length.

### London refused to let Reyer pull away

Reyer used the early part of the second quarter to create a sizeable gap, 35-26, but London kept finding ways to put points on the board, with Josh Sharma scoring a layup and Matt Morgan netting a layup off a pretty Conor Morgan assist, 35-30. The hosts made it a 12-point ballgame following a layup by Wiltjer and 5 straight points by Brown, 42-30, but Olaseni began to punish Reyer inside, cutting it to 45-41 with 3:30 left. Parks pushed the lead back to 8 points, 49-41, but a strong finish to the half by London made it a 2-point ballgame at the break, 51-49.

### London caught fire, then Reyer reacted

With the first score of the second half, London went ahead as Olaseni converted a three-point play, 51-52. Olaseni followed with a layup, before Matt Morgan went 1-for-2 from the line, Olaseni drained both free throws and Matt Morgan went a perfect 3-for-3 to make it a 51-60 difference and a 0-11 run to start the second half. Wiltjer caught fire from deep, hitting 3 straight threes to trim the gap, 60-64, then Dekker was ejected with 5:08 remaining after being hit with a technical for his complaints over a call. Reyer retook the lead on a couple of occasions, but Taylor stepped up in the final 31 seconds with 4 points, 69-72, before Brown responded with a triple, 72-72.

### Going ahead for good

Sharma scored a layup off a Taylor assist, 72-74, to open the fourth quarter, then Brown responded to make it 74-74. Disappointingly for London, Grantham went down injured on that play and had to be helped off to the side; he didn't return to the game. When Conor Morgan knocked down a triple to set a 74-77 score, London would never trail – or even find itself level – the rest of the way. Kareem Queeley came up with an important three-point play, 74-80, and a mixture of Taylor, Olaseni and Conor Morgan kept London charging the rest of the way. Reyer had a chance to make things interesting late, following a Simms layup that made it 88-90, but Taylor hit back with a three, 88-93. Then, after an Olaseni layup, 90-95, Tucker went 1-of-3 from the charity stripe with 16 seconds left and London did enough to hold on for a 91-95 triumph, its fifth straight in the EuroCup.

The visitors were in control of the game from start to finish against a Slask side that took to the court without star players Kendale McCullum and Jakub Niziol. Bourg improved to an 8-2 record, while Slask dropped to 2-8.

Isiaha Mike paced the winning side with 16 points and Jeremy Morgan added 12. As for the hosts, Dusan Miletic scored a game-high 20 points, while Hassani Gravett netted 14.

### Bourg took control early

Miletic opened the scoring with a reverse layup, but Bourg went on a 0-11 run to take an early 9-point lead. Daniel Golebiowski sank a corner three to end the guests’ momentum and bring Slask within 5-11. Bryce Brown knocked one down from behind the arc and Zaccharie Risacher scored his first points of the night to give Bourg a 7-16 cushion. Slask responded with a 9-2 run, but Bourg managed to take a 16-20 lead into the second quarter.

### The visitors kept the hosts at bay

Morgan hit the ground running in the second quarter, drilling back-to-back triples to make it 18-26. Artsiom Parakhouski and Bodian Massa exchanged baskets before Maksim Salash made a three-pointer for a double-digit Bourg lead, 20-31. Jamonda Bryant completed a three-point play but Kevin Kokila hit 2 free throws at the other end, 25-35. Gravett sank his second triple of the night, but Risacher responded with a long-range jump shot to make it 28-37. Brown knocked down a transition three before netting a jumper to take his tally to 8 first-half points.

### Slask couldn't make things tough for Bourg

Bourg was up 33-42 heading into the second half. Miletic and Mike exchanged triples, with the latter also scoring a tough basket for a 36-49 Bourg lead. A Gravett triple was followed by a Miletic dunk to bring Slask within 41-51. Andrii Voinalovych netted a triple, but Mike scored a bucket from beyond the arc to restore Bourg’s double-digit lead, 44-54. Then, Godwin Omenaka scored back-to-back buckets for a 48-58 Bourg cushion.

### Bourg saw the win over the line

Salash drew an unsportsmanlike foul and hit both free throws for a Bourg 48-60 lead early in the closing quarter. Then, Morgan completed a three-point play before hitting a triple for a 50-66 Bourg cushion midway through the fourth. The visitors stayed in cruise control in the remaining 5 minutes, despite a 7-0 Slask run, as they sealed their fourth consecutive victory.

Prometey Slobozhnske bounced back from its road loss against Joventut Badalona last week by clinching an 83-97 win against Veolia Towers Hamburg in Round 10 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup season at [Edel-Optics.De](http://Edel-Optics.De) Arena on Tuesday night. The visitors nudged ahead early and grabbed a double-digit advantage in the first period, then maintained its lead the rest of the way.

Prometey, which improved to 5-5, had six players in double figures, with Ondrej Balvin leading the way with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Ronald March scored 14 points, Rob Gray netted 13, Illia Sydorov had 12 and 5 assists, and Oleksandr Lypovyy, Tai Odiase and Gian Clavell finished with 11, 10 and 10, respectively. Lukas Meisner posted 16 points and 7 boards, William Christmas scored 16 and William King chipped in 12 for Hamburg, which fell to 1-9.

### Prometey took the reins early

Sydorov and Odiase combined for the first 8 points of the guests, good for a 5-8 edge after 4 minutes. Prometey showed a great balance offensively, with as many as five different players scoring as the visitors increased their advantage to 7-14 midway through the first period. Hamburg found some relief from outside, with Mark Hughes running the show to keep things tight, 12-16. The visitors kept pushing, though, and escaped with a 14-26 lead when Lypovyyand Clavell connected on back-to-back triples soon. Niklas Krause came to the rescue with 5 points in a row, including a buzzer-beating triple that closed the first quarter with Prometey leading 19-26.

### Balvin helped Prometey escape

Krause remained hot from deep after the break to make it 22-28, but Prometey found a reliable inside scoring source in Balvin, who netted 8 points in a row to return a double-digit advantage, 24-36, for the visitors. Hamburg tried to halt Prometey’s rhythm with a timeout, but it didn’t work as expected. Lypovyy nailed his second three to spark a 0-9 run that increased the gap to 27-45. Even though Christmas broke the trend with 4 straight points, the guests didn’t stop punishing their opponents from both inside and outside, eventually closing the first half with a dominant 35-52 advantage.

### Prometey dug deeper

In the same way he did at the beginning of the game, Sydorov took control early and fed Odiase twice to make it a 19-point margin, 37-56, right after the intermission. Hamburg seemed to have found some offensive momentum, but it couldn’t prevent Prometey from staying in its groove. Agada found the basket on consecutive offense possessions and Bobrov followed to launch Prometey into a 20-point lead right before a TV timeout. ### Hamburg scared Prometey, but fell short

Despite its difficulties, Hamburg didn’t give up and started the fourth quarter with renewed energy. A 6-0 run made it a 14-point game and resulted in a timeout being called by the visitors. Lypovyy looked to ruin Hamburg's hopes by drilling a three-pointer that shifted the momentum, while Clavell followed that up with a strike from downtown to restore a plus-20 margin, 61-82. Hamburg tried again by switching from man-to-man to zone defense on some of Prometey’s offenses, which started to pay off. A 15-2 run capped by 3 consecutive three-pointers reduced the difference to 81-88 with less than 3 minutes remaining, making it a new game. Prometey stayed calm, though, as a triple by Gray suffocated the home team's reaction at the right time. Then, a big block by Balvin and a couple of free throws by March put the game to bed.

Turk Telekom Ankara got back to winning ways for the first time since Round 2 by beating U-BT Cluj-Napoca 92-80 at Ankara Spor Salonu in Round 10 of the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup Regular Season. With this victory on Tuesday evening, Turk Telekom improved to 2-8, while dropped to 7-3.

James Palmer paced Turk Telekom with a season-high 24 points, while he also had 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in a very complete performance. Tyrone Wallace contributed 15 points, Steven Enoch added 14, and both Okben Ulubay and Ismail Ulusoy chipped in with 12. For Cluj, Patrick Richard and Andrija Stipanovic scored a team-high 15 points apiece, followed by D.J. Seeley with 13, Karel Guzman and Jarell Eddie with 12 each, and Emanuel Cate with 11.

### A strong start by Turk Telekom

Turk Telekom scored the first basket of the game through Saybir, 2-0, just 13 seconds into the contest before a back and forth ensued between the two teams. There was very little separating Turk Telekom and Cluj, with the score 10-11 with 5:22 remaining, but a late surge by the hosts, led by Palmer, resulted in a 26-18 margin after 10 minutes.

### Turk Telekom kept Cluj at arm's length

One aspect of Turk Telekom's approach that was particularly noticeable was its determination to go inside, with its big men enjoying plenty of success close to the rim. Yet, despite trailing for the entire quarter, Cluj never allowed Turk Telekom to pull away, as the visitors relied on their three-point shooting. Eddie made it a 1-point game, 33-32, after striking from deep, but a four-point play by Palmer later helped Turk Telekom extend its lead to 9 points, 50-41. At halftime, though, it was only a 5-point difference following a Guzman triple.

### Cluj managed to level things up... just

After the interval, Cluj kept fighting and regularly stayed close to Turk Telekom, with Guzman's corner three making it a 1-point ballgame once again, 55-54. But, Turk Telekom always seemed to have a response. Ulusoy scored a couple of three-pointers on successive Turk Telekom possessions to make it 66-59 with 1:21 left before the fourth quarter, but a crazy 10.9-second period saw Cluj level the scoreboard at 66-66 with 20 seconds remaining after a quick Stipanovic dunk and a Bryce Jones steal that led to a Seeley three-pointer. After 30 minutes, there was nothing to separate the two teams, 66-66.

### Turk Telekom put its foot on the gas

Although Cluj once again kept it close at the beginning of the final period, largely thanks to its ability to get to the free-throw line, Turk Telekom began to take over the contest thanks to Palmer, Wallace and Ulubay. With 6:39 left, Wallace's floater gave the hosts an 8-point lead, 77-69, before Saybir blocked Adam Mokoka and Palmer got out in transition for a layup, 79-69. Cluj kept fighting, but Ulubay appeared with two three-pointers on back-to-back Turk Telekom possessions to create the biggest lead of the game, 85-74. The rest of the way, Turk Telekom's players kept their cool from the line and eventually came away with a 95-84 triumph, just their second in the EuroCup this season.

A two-time All-Big West Conference First Team selection in college at Cal State Fullerton, Allman made his professional basketball debut with Lavrio in the Greek League in 2019. He joined VEF Riga the following season and led that team to the 2021 Latvian League championship as the MVP of the playoffs. Now he joins a Besiktas squad that is ranked fourth in Group A of the BKT EuroCup with a 6-3 record and seeking to reach the playoffs.

Quinn Ellis has already made a name for himself Aquila Basket Trento, as the English guard has hit a couple of big-time game-winners in his early EuroCup career.

When the game is on the line for Dolomiti Energia Trento, [Quinn Ellis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/quinn-ellis/012593/) has developed a habit of stepping up in the clutch.

Playing in his rookie BKT EuroCup season, the 20-year-old already has two game-winners to his name in just nine appearances, which has allowed Trento to finish the first half of the regular season in sixth place in Group B – the last spot for the playoffs – with a 4-5 record.

It is worth noting that this is not only Ellis’s first campaign in the EuroCup but also his first in the Italian first division. The English guard left the academy of the Sheffield Sharks, his hometown team, at 16 to join Orlandina in the Italian second division, before going on to suit up for Monferrato, also in the Italian second tier, last season. Then, last summer, Trento moved quickly to secure his services.

Now, under first-year head coach Paolo Galbiati, Ellis has shown what it takes to perform at the EuroCup level, averaging 9.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and a 13.0 PIR. What’s more, his two game-winners – on the road at 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys in Round 4 and at home to Aris Midea Thessaloniki in Round 9 – have displayed he has what it takes to play at this level.

During an interview with EuroCupBasketball.com, Ellis discusses his start to life in the EuroCup, how it felt to score those game-winners, as well as what it means to represent British basketball, coming up against LeBron James’s sons and much more.

**Hey, Quinn. You are just nine games into your EuroCup career, but you’ve already made quite a name for yourself. How have you found playing in the competition so far?**

“It’s been very up and down for me, I would say. The level is very high, but I’ve been able to show what I can do playing with confidence. I’ve really enjoyed it so far, it’s been great for me.”

### His EuroCup game-winners

**Some players have to wait years to get one game-winner under their belt, but you already have two to your name. Talk to us about the first of those, on the road at Lietkabelis in Round 4.**

“Obviously, we were down 1 \[92-91\], Coach \[Galbiati\] called a timeout and we drew up a play to get a flare screen. I was basically the last option if we couldn’t get either of the two flares to come off. The ball came to me and I knew I had to go downhill and try to get to the basket to score. I got downhill, I put a floater up and luckily it rolled in, so I was really happy.”

**And now the most recent game-winner against Aris in Round 9. Did it mean more to score it on Trento’s home floor, or was the feeling of silencing the Lietkabelis crowd more satisfying?**

“Ooh, that’s a good question. I would probably say the most recent one, because it was more of an important game for us as Aris was really close to us in the standings. They also have a lot of fans, so it’s good to silence them and to also score in front of our home crowd. It was really nice.”

**So, should we start a Quinn Time nickname, like Dame Time for NBA superstar Damian Lillard? In the clutch moments, you tend to appear!**

“Yeah, it’s been good for me. I’m going out with no fear and obviously the coaches and my teammates trusted me with the last shot on these two occasions, so this could be a good nickname, for sure.”

**Your averages are really impressive for someone so early in their career. What’s more, you are shooting decent percentages across the board: 60.6% from two, 40.0% from three and 85.7% on free throws, which are all career highs. How have you been able to be so efficient?**

“It’s just been two things, really: just working a lot in the practices and getting extra shots up with the assistant coaches, which has been my main focus because last year I wasn’t happy with how I shot from three; and just playing with confidence. Confidence is everything. When you play with confidence, the sky is the limit for you. It’s been really good, I’ve felt no pressure, no fear and I’m just playing with confidence. Seeing my shots drop has been really good for me.”

### Flying the flag for British basketball

**British players, for one reason or another, are often looked down upon, but you – as well as the London Lions’ British players – are showing that you belong at this level, if not higher. How does it feel to be the poster boy of British basketball?**

“It’s obviously a proud achievement for me. I feel like I want to represent the British flag and show that we can play in these high European competitions and play against these high-level European countries. For me, it’s really important to show that us UK guys can play as well at the top level.”

**Your journey to Trento and the EuroCup has not been easy. How did those experiences prepare you for the leap to the Italian first division and the EuroCup with Trento?**

“I would say that they prepared me a lot, because the year I was in Capo d’Orlando \[with Orlandina\] and the year I was in Casale \[Monferrato\], it was tough. We had very up and down seasons, we didn’t win a lot of games, so it really helped me be resilient and go through bad and dark times. Now that the great times are arriving, I’m enjoying them. But when the bad times come, I’m prepared to get through them and know how to get through them, so those two years really helped me. Also on the court as well, \[those experiences helped me\] to be more vocal, to be more expressive as a player and a leader.”

**You also got a chance to come up against LeBron James’s sons, Bronny and Bryce, with the Hoopsfix Elite in 2022. How cool was that experience, especially given you guys came away with the win?**

“That was a top three experience for me basketball-wise. There was so much hype. Getting to play together with guys I’ve grown up playing against, going up against LeBron James’s sons \[Bronny, Bryce\], Penny Hardaway’s son \[Ashton\], Scottie Pippen’s son \[Justin\] in front of a packed-out Copper Box \[Arena\] was surreal. The atmosphere was amazing, then to put the cherry on top we came out with the win, so it was great.”

### Carrying on a legacy and a look to the future

**You are part of British basketball royalty after all, as your late grandmother, Betty Codona OBE, launched the Sheffield Hatters. Your mother, Vanessa, is the GB assistant coach, too, and your cousin plays for the national team now. How does it feel to be carrying on the legacy of your grandmother and your mother?**

“For me, it’s a big thing. For my grandma, I want to just keep making her proud and carry on her name, because she did so much for British basketball. Obviously, my mum as well. I’ll just continue playing as hard as I can to continue making them proud of me every day.”

**Given the way you are playing and also the rise of the London Lions, how do you see the future of British basketball?**

“I feel like the future of British basketball is definitely on the rise. Now, especially with the London Lions making a name for themselves and lots of players making a name for themselves both in Europe and in the U.S., I could see British basketball coming a long way and being able to compete in the EuroCup, the EuroLeague and be a part of the highest level of European basketball.”

**And for Trento, you guys already have as many wins as the team managed all last season. With Trento in sixth place in Group B, the last playoff spot, has the possibility of postseason basketball been spoken about in the locker room?**

“It’s been on our minds, but it’s not something that we’re thinking about. We can’t get complacent. We’re living it game by game and just playing with the same team energy and the confidence we’ve all got together and just racking the wins up. We don’t want to think too far ahead, we want to stay in the moment and just keep playing well and keep getting wins, which is important.”
