Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana strengthened its backcourt by inking point guard Umoja Gibson to a two-year deal

Cedevita adds playmaker Umoja Gibson

[Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/cedevita-olimpija-ljubljana/lju/?season=2024-25) strengthened its backcourt by inking point guard Umoja Gibson to a two-year deal, the club announced Sunday.

Gibson (1.85 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Spartak Office Shoes Subotica, where he averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 26 Adriatic League games last season. He was instrumental in helping the team reach the Serbian League finals.

After playing college basketball at the University of North Texas, the University of Oklahoma and De Paul University, Gibson began his professional career with German side Goettingen, where he averaged 14.4 points, 4.9 assists and 1.5 steals in the 2023-24 campaign. He is set to make his BKT EuroCup debut with Cedevita next season.

"I feel great after signing with Cedevita Olimpija. During a conversation with my agent, I learned that the club has a rich basketball history. This is an important step forward in my career," Gibson said. "We will be playing in the EuroCup against top opponents, which I’m very excited about."

Lietkabelis Panevezys made sure to fortify its paint by signing power forward Fardaws Aimaq to a one-year deal on Saturday.

Aimaq (2.11 meters, 26 years old) arrives from NHSZ Szolnoki Olajbanyasz, where he averaged 15.1 points and a competition-best 11.3 rebounds in 34 Hungarian League games last season. He also did well in the FIBA Europe Cup, averaging 15.7 points and 12.7 rebounds. It was his first season as a professional basketball player after being a rebounding machine throughout his college career.

In his only season with the University of California, Aimaq averaged 14.5 points and 11.1 rebounds in 32 NCAA games. Before that he played for Utah Valley University for two seasons, where he averaged 14.9 rebounds in the 2020-21 campaign and 13.5 boards the next season. Aimaq was the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2021 and the WAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. He has also been a member of the Canadian national team.

He started his professional career in his native Poland, where he played for Kasprowiczanka Ostrow Wlk, AZS Politechnika Warszawa and Asseco Prokom Gydnia before joining Belgium's Telenet Ostend. 

Ponitka also played for Stelmet Zielona Gora in Poland, Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir in Turkiye, Iberostar Tenerife in Spain, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar and Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia, Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens in Greece and Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade in Serbia.

Ponitka won a Polish League championships with Prokom in 2012 and Zielona Gora in 2016, claimed back-to-back Belgian League doubles with Ostend in 2014 and 2015 and helped Tenerife win the 2018 Intercontinental Cup. He was chosen as the 2015-16 EuroCup Rising Star after averaging 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and a PIR of 17.3 in 10 games with Zielona Gora. He was also named to the 2015-16 All-EuroCup Second Team. 

Ponitka is also a member of the Polish national team and helped its U17 squad get a silver medal at the 2010 Basketball World Cup. In 75 EuroCup career games with Ostend, Zielona Gora, Lokomotiv and Bahcesehir, Ponitka has averaged 9.4 points and 4.2 rebounds. He has played 145 EuroLeague games with Prokom, Zielona Gora, Zenit, Panathinaikos and Partizan.

Mateusz Ponitka led Bahcesehir College Istanbul to the BKT EuroCup semifinals.

Manresa adds size with Grant Golden 

BAXI Manresa strengthened its frontcourt with the signing of center Grant Golden for the 2025-26 season, the club announced Saturday.

Golden (2.08 meters, 27 years old) arrives from AEK Athens, where he averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 28 Greek League games last season. He boosted those numbers to 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 17 BCL games in helping AEK reach the semifinals. 

After finishing his college career with the University of Richmond, Golden played for the Grand Rapids Gold of the G League and Vanoli Basket Cremona of Italy before joining AEK. Just like Manresa, Golden will be making his EuroCup debut in the 2025-26 campaign.

Taylor (2.01 meters, 36 years old) arrives from Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius, where he averaged 8.1 points in 14 BKT EuroCup games last season, his third with the club. Before he came to Wolves, Taylor had spent seven seasons with Real Madrid, with which he won the EuroLeague in 2018, reaching the Championship Game in 2022 and two more Final Fours in 2017 and 2019. He also captured four Spanish League championships, two Spanish Cups and the 2015 Intercontinental Cup.

Taylor began his professional career with the Charlotte Bobcats in the NBA in 2012 and spent three seasons there, with a brief stint with the Austin Spurs of the G League, before joining Real. Taylor has also been a member of the Swedish national team; he led EuroBasket 2013 in scoring (21.2 ppg.). In 22 EuroCup games with the Wolves, he averaged 9.6 points and 3.3 rebounds. He took part in 202 EuroLeague games with Real.

Jeffery Taylor has moved from Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius to U-BT Cluj-Napoca.

Houindo had 10 points and 6 rebounds in the first-place game against U18 EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. He also played in the NextGen Finals in Abu Dhabi, where he averaged 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in three games. Houindo is now set to make his BKT EuroCup debut with Cedevita.

Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Koprivica moved to the United States at age 12. After two years with Florida State University, he started his professional career with Partizan, taking part in the 2021-22 EuroCup. He averaged 6.4 points and 5.5 rebounds in 17 games, while ranking second in blocks (1.2 bpg.). Koprivica has also been a member of the Serbian national team and helped its U18 squad win a gold medal at the 2017 U18 European Championships.

Candi (1.90 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Bertham Yachts Derthona Tortona, where he played the last three seasons. He averaged 4.2 points and 1.9 assists in 25 Italian League games last season. Candi started his professional career with Eternedile Bologna and also played for Fortituto Kontatto Bologna and Unahotels Reggio Emilia before joining Tortona in 2022. Candi has also been a member of the Italian national team. He took part in the 2017-18 BKT EuroCup with Reggio Emilia and averaged 3.0 points in 21 games in reaching the semifinals. 

"I am really excited to start this new adventure with Reyer, who I thank for having strongly wanted me. I arrive in Venice with great energy and happiness, and I can't wait to meet my new teammates," Candi said. [NINERS Chemnitz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/niners-chemnitz/nin/) continued its roster overhaul ahead of its BKT EuroCup debut by signing forward [Yordan Minchev](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yordan-minchev/profile/007423/) for the 2024-25 season.

Minchev (2.05 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Spirou Charleroi, with which he led the 2024–25 FIBA Europe Cup in rebounding. A physical and energetic presence in the frontcourt, Minchev averaged 12.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals plus blocks over 45 games across all competitions last season. He shot 61% on two-pointers and 32% from behind the arc. In Europe Cup action, he posted 7.0 rebounds in just 24 minutes per game.

"Yordan is a very physical player who isn’t afraid of doing the dirty work under the basket," Coach Rodrigo Pastore said. "He also brings international experience and the ability to score in different ways. That combination will definitely help us."

Minchev is a product of the Levski Sofia youth system and he made his professional debut with that club before joining Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in 2016, while still 17 years old. He would even appear in a air of EuroLeague games with Fenerbahce. Minchev has since played for Vrsac in Serbia, MZT Skopje in North Macedonia, Istanbul BSB in Turkiye, Ose Lions in Hungary, CSU Sibiu in Romania and Rilski Sportist and Balkan Botevgrad in Bulgaria. He has represented Bulgaria at every level and remains a key player for the senior national team.
