**The EuroCup will have a new format this season that rewards regular-season dominance and makes it tougher to reach the EuroCup Playoffs.**

Starting this season, only six teams will advance to the playoffs, instead of eight. Moreover, the top two teams in each regular season group will receive first-round playoff byes, skipping the eighthfinals to be slotted directly into the quarterfinals.

The eighthfinals pairings will feature third- vs. sixth-place teams and fourth- vs. fifth-place teams from different regular season groups in single games hosted by the higher-placed teams. The winners of each game advance to visit the first- and second-place teams in do-or-die quarterfinals games.

The EuroCup Semifinals and Finals, which were also single games under the previous format, will now become best-of-three series starting on the court of the higher-placed team at the end of the regular season.

The format changes will bring more excitement to the regular season as the difference between finishing second and third is greater than before. At the tail end of the standings, four teams will now go home after the regular season, making for a tougher push just to reach the postseason.

Under the new format, the finalists could play as few as 23 games and as many as 26.

Alongside 17 returning clubs from last season, the EuroCup will feature debutante Wolves Vilnius and welcome back Aris Thessaloniki and Besiktas Istanbul.**

In the coming season, the EuroCup will see clubs from 14 nations, including two each from France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Spain and Turkiye. There are two current or former champions (Dreamland Gran Canaria and Joventut Badalona), two more runners-up (Turk Telekom Ankara and Aris), and three more past semifinalists (Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, Dolomiti Energia Trento and Prometey Slobozhanske).

Aris has played seven previous seasons in the EuroCup and reached the final in 2006. This season will mark Besiktas's 10th in the EuroCup; its high-water mark was the quarterfinals in 2008. Both teams last competed in the competition during the 2015-16 season. Wolves was founded in 2022 and made its first appearance in international competition last season in the European North Basketball League.

The assembly also approved a [new postseason format](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/new-eurocup-format-certain-to-bring-increased-drama), which includes best-of-three series in the semifinal and final phases, or the new 2023-24 EuroCup season.

Iisalo is coming off a memorable campaign with Telekom Baskets Bonn of Germany, having secured the club's first-ever title in the Basketball Champions League and guided the team to the German League finals, where it came up short against ratiopharm Ulm. At just 40 years of age, Iisalo is one of the most promising coaches in Europe and he now has a chance to lead Paris's exciting project, following the departure of former head coach Will Weaver. Next season, Iisalo will coach in the 7DAYS EuroCup for the first time in his career.

Paris impressed in its first-ever season in the EuroCup in the 2022-23 campaign, finishing with a 10-8 regular-season record, which meant it was the No. 5 seed entering the playoffs. Once in the postseason, the French side defeated 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys 97-98 on the road in the eighthfinals but then lost to eventual champ Gran Canaria, 104-74, in the quarterfinals. With the arrival of Iisalo, Paris will be hoping to take the next big step in its development.

### Iisalo's journey to Paris

Iisalo had a 14-year playing career between 2000 and 2014, in which he remained in his native Finland and played as a shooting guard. He played for the Finnish national team, too. His coaching career began with Finland's Under-20 side in 2014, but soon after he took charge of Finnish side Tapiolan Honka in the 2014-15 season. Iisalo's next job saw him move to Germany in March 2016 to sign a deal with Crailsheim Merlins, which was playing in the German Second Division. In the 2017-18 season, Iisalo helped Crailsheim get promoted to the German First Division.

After a couple of years of establishing itself as a top-flight side, Iisalo's Crailsheim made history in the 2020-21 campaign by reaching the German League playoffs for the first time. In the summer of 2021, he decided to accept a job offer from Bonn, where he went on to make more history. Iisalo was named the German League Coach of the Year in both 2022 and 2023, while he also earned Basketball Champions League Coach of the Year honors in 2023. Having led Bonn to the BCL title in 2022-23, the first in the club's history, Iisalo will forever be remembered in the German city.

One of the top scoring teams in the EuroCup last season, Prometey Slobozhanske has added another weapon to its arsenal by signing point guard Marcus Keene.

Last season Keene (1.75 meters, 28 years old) was fourth in the French League in scoring with 20.2 points per game with Strasbourg. He led the league with 3.6 three-pointers made per game and also averaged 4.2 assists per game. Keene returns to the EuroCup after appearing in four games for Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana at the start of the 2021-22 season.

Keene was the leading scorer in the VTB United League for the 2020-21 season with 20.0 points per game for Kalev Cramo and the Italian league top scorer with Varese in 2021-22 with 18.7 points. He has also played for Cagliari in Italy as well as for teams in South Korea and Taiwan.

The London Lions have brought home another one of the best players to come out of the British capital by signing Gabe Olaseni. The center has spent the last four seasons in Turkiye, including the last two with Darussafaka Istanbul.

The London Lions have brought home another one of the best players to come out of the British capital by signing [Gabe Olaseni](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/gabe-olaseni/006600/). The center has spent the last four seasons in Turkiye, including the last two with Darussafaka Istanbul. Olaseni (2.10 meters, 31 years old) averaged 12.7 points and 7.4 rebounds in 32 Turkish League games last season.

After going to high school and playing college basketball in the United States, Olaseni began his professional career in Germany with Brose Bamberg in 2015. He appeared in five Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games that season before moving on to Geissen. Olaseni has also suited up for Dinamo Sassari in Italy, Orleans in France, Fuenlabrada in Spain, Wurzburg in Germany and Bursaspor and Buyukcekmece in Turkey and been a key player for the British national team. He will make his EuroCup debut this season with London.

Last season Palmer (1.96 meters, 26 years old) made his 7DAYS EuroCup debut with Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse, where he starred ranking sixth in scoring with 15.6 points per game, seventh in three-point accuracy (47.3%) and ninth with 2.3 triples made per game. He also posted 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals, leading the team with an average PIR of 16.8.

Interestingly, Palmer's best game came against his new head coach Nenad Canak, who was on the bench of 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys last season, and Palmer scored 31 points on 5-for-9 three-point shooting on that night.

Palmer shined against his new head coach

Last season Palmer also helped Bourg make French League semifinals, posting 14.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Palmer started his professional basketball career with Agua Caliente of the G League, after a successful collegiate career at the University of Nebraska, where he averaged 19.7 points in his final season. Prior to joining Bourg, Palmer played with Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski which he helped win the 2022 Polish League title.

De Sousa (2.06 meters, 24 years old) singed a one-year deal as he arrives from the French League side Roanne where he averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds.

##### Aris Thessaloniki got some muscle under the basket for its return to the 7DAYS EuroCup with the addition of forward Silvio De Sousa, the club announced Wednesday. 

De Sousa (2.06 meters, 24 years old) singed a one-year deal. He arrives from French League side Roanne where he averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds last season. It was De Sousa's first as a professional. 

He has spent three years in the NCAA playing for University of Kansas, and a year with University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. De Sousa has been a member of Angolan national team and in the youth categories he won gold medals at the U16 African Championship in 2013 and U18 African Championship in 2016.

Kestutis Kemzura is set to be keep coaching Wolves Vilnius for an extra season. Kemzura joined Wolves in late March and is returning to the EuroCup for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Wolves Vilnius and head coach Kestutis Kemzura will remain together for another season, the club announced Wednesday. Kemzura, age 53, joined Wolves in late March, replacing three-time EuroCup champion Rimas Kurtinaitis. He helped the team reach the European North Basketball League championship game and the Lithuanian League playoffs. He returns to the EuroCup for a seventh season in the competition: his last appearance was with CEZ Basketball Nymburk in the 2014-15 campaign, and he has a 32-27 record in the EuroCup.

A former player, Kemzura was as an assistant coach at Rytas Vilnius of Lithuania - and briefly served as head coach, Dynamo St Petersburg of Russia and Benetton Treviso of Italy. He coached Russian side Khimki Moscow Region from January 2007 to December 2008, and also led Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar of Russia, Asseco Prokom Gdynia of Poland and Nymburk before returning to an assistant coach role to the legendary David Blatt, first with Darussafaka Istanbul and then with Olympiacos Piraeus. Kemzura was named Olympiacos's head coach and also led Socar Petkimspor of Turkey before joining Wolves. 

As a head coach, he led Khimki to the Russian Cup in 2008 and won back-to-back Czech League crowns with Nymburk in 2014 and 2015. As Blatt's assistant, Kemzura lifted the EuroCup trophy with Darussafaka in 2018, won the Italian League with Treviso in 2006, and claimed the FIBA Europe Cup crown with Dynamo in 2005. Turk Telekom Ankara announced on Wednesday that it has signed forward [Troy Selim Sav](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/troy-selim-sav/009845/) for the coming season. Sav (2.06 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Manisa Buyuksehir Bld., which he joined midway through the season from fellow Turkish side Ayos Konyaspor. Sav enjoyed a breakout with Manisa and averaged 7.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18:20 minutes over 19 games.

Sav began his career with Darussafaka Istanbul and played four seasons there between 2018 and 2022. He appeared in 5 EuroCup games for Darussafaka during the 2019-20 campaign.
