Dolomiti Energia Trento announced on Friday that it has signed forward Anthony Lamb for the 2024-25 season. Lamb (1.98 meters, 26 years old) will make his first appearance in European basketball with Trento. Last season he played for the New Zealand Breakers in the Australian NBL, where he averaged 19.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game, though he missed the end of the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in February. Lamb was sixth in the league in scoring.

Lamb was a college basketball star at the University of Vermont, where he was twice named the American East Conference Player of the Year. He split his first three professional seasons between the NBA and the G-League. After playing for the Houston Rockets in 2020-21 and the San Antonio Spurs the next season, Lamb averaged 6.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 62 games for the Golden State Warriors in 2022-23. He won the 2022 G-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

“I am delighted with Anthony Lamb signing with us. As soon as there was an opportunity to try to catch him, we stopped everything we were doing, because he is a special player,” Coach Paolo Galbiati said on the team’s website. “If he hadn't had the injury that stopped him last season, it would have been unthinkable to have him with us. We had a really interesting chat, he knew a lot about us and I was fascinated by the knowledge he has of the game. He has worked and is working hard to be ready to make his contribution to the team and to pursue his and our dreams from the beginning of the season.”

Born in Poland, Urbaniak grew up in Malaga, Spain, from age 3 and played in the Unicaja Malaga youth system. But despite its struggles in recent years, Trento has had its share of big victories and has improved each of the last three seasons. The goal is the same this season, as Trento eyes battling for a playoff spot.

Here's a look at some of the interesting matchups that await Trento in the 2024-25 EuroCup season.

 

### Round 2: Optimism for the home opener

The first home game of the season is always a special one, and for Trento, it will be a good indicator of what the fans can expect from the season. It will also be a chance for Trento fans to see new point guard [Jordan Ford](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/trento-puts-offense-in-jordan-fords-hands/), who is expected to run Trento's offense, which had its struggles last season.

Gran Canaria seek to restore winning-ways and possibly book their ticket to the playoffs too after seeing their perfect start ended with defeat at Ulm, whilst Trento has slipped down the standings after losing four of its last five European encounters and hope for an improvement in attack from Andrejs Grazulis.

Brooks started the 2023-24 campaign with Wonju DB in the Republic of Korea, where he only played one game before joining Wolves. Brooks played college basketball at the University of North Carolina and at Mississippi State University, and started his professional career with the Westchester Knicks in the G League, where he averaged 13.6 points and 11.6 rebounds in 37 games in the 2022-23 season. He has also been a member of the USA U18 national team.

Strazel's late heroics keep France undefeated 

In a Group B back-and-forth battle on Tuesday, France and Japan exchanged leads for the best part of the opening 39 minutes. Japan rallied for a 77-80 edge with over a minute left and led 84-80 with 16.4 seconds remaining.

The game seemed to be over, but [Matthew Strazel](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/matthew-strazel/008099/) had other ideas.

When Rudy Gobert found Strazel beyond the three-point line, instead of taking the shot, Strazel looked at the game clock, dribbled left and shot over Kawamura's defense, drawing a foul and hitting a three-pointer that turned Pierre Mauroy Stadium upside down. Strazel sank the and-one free throw which allowed France to force overtime against all odds.

Strazel was not done, however. France led all the way in overtime but Japan managed to get within 90-92 in the final minute. France needed a reliable free throw shooter and Strazel stepped up again. He drew a foul with 6 seconds left and calmly made free throws to seal the outcome.

He finished the game with 17 points on 4 of 7 three-point shooting and 3 assists for a PIR of 16. Strazel saved France and proved that on a team full of stars, he can shine as bright as anyone else, providing one of the biggest highlights of the Olympic tournament.

And then he gave his AS Monaco teammate Mike James credit for it minutes after the game on social media.

ratiopharm Ulm and center Nicolas Bretzel reached an agreement to remain together for another season, the club announced Tuesday. Bretzel (2.13 meters, 25 years old) is entering his seventh season with Ulm, which he joined at the same time as club legend Per Guenther in 2008. He averaged 3.7 points and 1.6 rebounds in 15 BKT EuroCup games last season.

Bretzel joined the club's youth program and made his first team debut in the 2017-18 season. In 46 EuroCup games with Ulm, Bretzel has averaged 4.1 points and 2.0 rebounds. He helped Ulm win the German League in 2023 and reach the EuroCup Quarterfinals in 2022 and 2023. 

"I'm looking forward to being able to play another year with the teammates I already know. I also see Ulm as a good location in Germany where you can develop both physically and as a player - even after all the years I've been here," Bretzel said after the agreement. "With the new coach \[Ty Harrelson\], there will also be new training methods, and a lot will change tactically too - a good opportunity to continue to improve."

Considered to be an outstanding defensive player, Mejeris began his career with Liepajas Papirs in his native Latvia and also played for Liepajas Lauvas before heading abroad for the first time to play for Clavijo in Spain in 2011 when he was 20 years old. He has since played for Fuenlabrada and Burgos in Spain; VEF Riga in Latvia, Elan Chalon in France, Parma Perm in Russia, Pesaro in Italy and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem in Israel. Mejeris won the Latvian League three times with Riga and was named the MVP of the finals in two of those seasons. His trophy case also includes the 2023 Israeli Cup with Jerusalem.

He comes off a season in the Australian National Basketball League with the New Zealnd Breakers. Rubstavicius began his professional career in Lietkabelis before joining Zalgiris as a 17-year-old in 2019. He spent three seasons there, playing for the club’s junior team, B team and senior team and made his EuroLeague debut in April 2021. Rubstavicius returned to Lietkabelis for the 2022-23 season before moving to New Zealand last season. He has also played for the Lithuanian national team at the junior levels and helped it win the silver medal at the 2022 European U20 Championship.
