Here comes Round 11 of the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season, which has been as competitive as it can be. Some teams have signed new players to improve their chances of reaching the playoffs and many of these players are delivering. Before Round 11, let's look at some of those mid-season additions who can surprise your private league rivals and help you climb spots in the overall standings. 

[Joe Thomasson, Promitheas Patras](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/joe-thomasson/012095/) (12.0 credits) – Thomasson joined Promitheas to replace Joe Young, the competition's top scorer. That means he has some big shoes to fill and Thomasson delivered right away, proving he is up for the challenge. He had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and a PIR of 22 in his EuroCup debut! 

[Erick Green, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/erick-green/005159/) (12.4 credits) – Buducnost knew exactly what to expect from Green, an elite scorer, and he provided it right away. Green came off the bench in Round 10 against Hamburg to produce 22 points in 21 minutes plus 2 assists and 2 steals for a PIR of 21. This is Green's third EuroCup team, so no adjustment is needed.

EuroCup Fantasy tips: Round 11

[Caleb Agada, Prometey Slobozhanske](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/caleb-agada/011944/) (12.4 credits) – Agada is not a new signing but has been playing fantastically lately. In the last five games, Agada has averaged 17.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists for a PIR of 19.4. In Round 10, Agada had 19 points, 9 assists and just 1 turnover, leading Prometey to a road win against Lietkabelis. 

[Jordan Taylor, London Lions](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jordan-taylor/005247/) (11.0 credits) – London needed a new floor general and Taylor was the right fit. He has played nicely in his first two games with London, averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 9.0 assists for a PIR of 18.5. He's also made 6 of 9 shots from beyond the arc. His experience and all-around scoring skills make London even more dangerous.

[Chinaku Onuaku, Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/chinanu-onuaku-/012076/) (12.5 credits) – Onuaku has improved his PIR in each of the last four games, in which he's averaged 10.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. In Round 10 against London, Onuaku helped Hapoel to a road win with 10 points, 17 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks for a PIR of 23. He's a rock-solid choice at center.

David Dudzinski, Bursaspor: 'We are in a very good spot'

We are feeling good as a team after beating Cedevita. I think they are a very good team. I mean, you could see their record in the Adriatic League, but in EuroCup, they have struggled. They had a couple of close games that they lost. But yes, we came out on fire. We were shooting the ball with confidence. We were tough and controlled the game from the first minutes and when you are at home, in front of our fans, they really just want to see us play hard, with emotion and excitement. And that game was a really great reintroduction back into the EuroCup for the second half of the season. 

I had a solid game, too. Someone pointed out after the game that a missed shot and a foul committed were my only negative actions. Well, I probably should have spent one or two more fouls, sometimes it can be better. But yes, I got a couple of open looks early, sometimes now with the teams, they see how aggressive Onuralp Bitim and Anthony Clemmons are driving to the basket and they collapse so much that I'm able to get some open shots on the perimeter. And once they come out and cover me, then we have the alley-oop threat with Zach Auguste. So it's one of those pick-your-poison situations and everything was clicking against Cedevita. Me and several other guys had a really good night. It was a really efficient showing from our guys.

We came off an ugly loss in Brescia before the holiday break. That was a rough game. It's a long season, it can happen, but that was just one kind of the opposite where everything goes wrong and it starts slipping away fast. It just wasn't a good night for us, but we still believe that we are a top team in this group. And after a night like that, I'm just happy we can see them again at home and show these Italian teams we can beat them, too, because I think our worst games in EuroCup came against Brescia and Reyer. So we will bounce back and it was great to bounce back with a win against Cedevita, for sure. 

I am glad Enes Taskiran had a great game. I only know him from last year and he was playing on a smaller team in Turkey, but he was really dominating and does have this confidence about him that you can't just leave him open. He took a couple of threes in transition yesterday where everybody kind of left him alone and focused on somebody else. And he shot them and he made them because he's a very good player. He's got this great confidence about him. He's got good energy. And he really does not back down from fights. He got mixed up with Alen Omic, the biggest guy probably in the league, so it was great to see him come out and give us another weapon. He can really shoot it, for sure! 

This is my second season with Coach Alimpijevic and it is about time I talk about him. He is a big reason why I decided to come back this year. I know it's the same for Derek Needham and the same for Onuralp, we really enjoy playing for him. And it's not that it's easy because we do have a very demanding schedule and he asked a lot of us, but we know that he's going to make us better. We know that we're going to be better basketball players for playing for him. And I think, of course, there are times where he gets honest and we're not doing what we need to do, but at the end of the day, he really cares about us and really wants us to succeed. He really wants us to play at the highest level of Europe and he's very careful about who he brings into the team. I really respect the work that he's done here to take this team from the lower half of the Turkish League up to some of the levels that we have reached. Hopefully, this year we can we can even go up a little bit more. 

2022-23 EuroCup highlights: David Dudzinski, Bursaspor

You can tell Coach belongs to the Serbian school, because he is also a mentor. I have no doubt that especially from Zeljko Obradovic, he draws a lot of inspiration, and I know that they talk and that he models a lot of his stuff around Obradovic. Obviously, Dusan is his own guy, and he has coached in the NBA summer league and everything, so he has a little bit of that American style as well. But the Serbian coaches are well-known to especially American import players that you are going to be playing high-level basketball. It's going to be tough practices, tough pre-seasons, everything, but you are going to be a better basketball player for it. 

We have a big game against Joventut coming up. We beat them at home and having a 2-0 record against them would be huge. I know they are a big favorite in our group. And again, another team that's playing really well. They move so well off the ball and play a very typical Spanish style, which can be very hard to defend. This is a game that we know is very important. We will come over there and try to be road warriors and take that one. It's really important for us going forward; we've only got eight games left. The season is getting short now, so we've got to take advantage of every opportunity we get. 

I think right now, we are in a very good spot, everybody. We are playing very smart, mature basketball. We are sharing the ball. I think we only had 4 turnovers last week. I think part of the problem was in November, we would win a few games and then we would just not show up, and we win a few more games and we just not show up. And so we were kind of up and down, up and down. And in the last couple of weeks, we have won a bunch of games, but we have to learn from our past and not go down now. Now's the time we need to continue to focus and continue to go up.

January-February really is a good opportunity for us to win some games and put ourselves at the top of the table at the end of the regular season, because you can drop some games now and then maybe you can fall out of getting a home game in the playoffs. And that's really important given how our atmosphere is. But our team chemistry is really good right now. I'm really happy with these guys. We stick together and we gelled really nicely, and I think now we know our roles pretty well and we know what everybody brings and I'm really happy to be here again. I think we can do some great things.

We didn't play any playoff games at home last season and our fans deserve it. They show up and support us so much that we need to play a couple of rounds at home in the EuroCup Playoffs. I think that will give us even more of a boost because I think this is a team that can make a deeper run in the EuroCup, for sure.

Joventut Badalona v Frutti Extra Bursaspor (2023-01-17T19:15:00.000Z)

Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse is currently sitting atop the standings in Group A of the 7DAYS EuroCup with a record of 7-3, but it could lose its place as the sole leader on Tuesday night, with the 6-4 Umana Reyer Venice eyeing a big road win at Ekinox.

When these two met in Venice in Round 2, Bourg leaned on a 29-point fourth-quarter outburst to down Reyer and advance to 2-0. Reyer, meanwhile, found itself 0-2 after coming into the season with a lot of hopes and expectations.

Now, heading into this Round 11 matchup, both teams recorded wins last week after suffering back-to-back defeats heading into the new year break. Last Wednesday, Bourg went on the road and beat U-BT Cluj-Napoca 79-88, capitalizing on Joventut Badalona's defeat one night before to open up a one-game lead at the top of Group A, whereas Reyer got back on track with an 89-69 win at home to ratiopharm Ulm, which saw it rise to second spot.

Isiaha Mike was a key factor in the first meeting between Bourg and Reyer, finishing with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double, and he enters Tuesday's game in good form after averaging 14.0 points in his last three contests. Jordan Floyd and James Palmer both got into double digits in scoring in Round 2, combining for 31 points, and they began 2023 with 16 and 12 points, respectively, against Cluj.

The hosts can also call upon Frantz Massenat, who has scored an average of 12.3 points in his last four games. That average would be even better if Massenat had not gone scoreless in Round 9, as he has scored at least 13 points in Rounds 7, 8 and 10.

Reyer, on the other hand, saw Mitchell Watt and Jayson Granger impress in its home defeat to Bourg, with the former scoring 19 points and the latter contributing 15. Since then, Reyer has gone 6-2 in the EuroCup to rise up the standings, yet it has relied on a series of players coming to the fore on different nights.

In Round 10, for example, Reyer had four players score a double-digit number of points – Watt (19), Derek Willis (17), Amedeo Tessitori (15) and Jordan Parks (14) – but it also has the likes of Marco Spissu, Allerik Freeman, Michael Bramos and Granger who can catch fire on offense.

Curiously, Bourg has a better record on the road than it does at Ekinox, as it is 4-1 on its travels and 3-2 at home. It also lost its last home game against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana in Round 9 and is 1-2 in its last three contests there. Conversely, Reyer has gone 4-2 at home and 2-2 away from Venice, while it lost on its last road trip, which came against Joventut Badalona in Round 8.

The two teams' contrasting fortunes should make for a fascinating contest, with Bourg having the chance to extend its lead at the top of the standings while Reyer can join Tuesday's hosts as co-leaders with a win. History indicates that Bourg is the favorite, with a 4-1 all-time record against Reyer, but this is the EuroCup, where anything can happen. London Lions (4-6) will go for their first-ever EuroCup sweep when they visit Dolomiti Energia Trento (2-8) in a Group B clash on Wednesday. When the two sides first met in Round 2, Ovie Soko earned a share of the MVP of the Round honor after leading London to an 80-75 win. It was also London's first-ever victory in the competition. London enters this contest on a three-game losing streak and Trento has lost its last two games, but it did win the last two times on its home floor.

Paris Basketball (7-3) will try to keep its perfect road record intact when it pays a visit to a fellow newcomer Hapoel Vegan Friendy Tel Aviv (6-4) in what promises to be a highly-entertaining Group B contest on Wednesday. While Paris is yet to lose away from home this season, Hapoel itself is aiming for its fourth straight win and has scored more than 90 points in each of the last four games. Hapoel and its top-scoring offense (88.2 ppg.) defeated Paris 86-100 in Round 2 with J'Covan Brown earning a share of the MVP of the Round and will be aiming for a season sweep with another win against the same opponent.

Game Notes and facts: Hapoel vs. Paris

The second half of the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup began with Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse and Gran Canaria getting one victor clear at the top of the standings in Group A and Group B, respectively. Interestingly, both are tied for just the 12th ranking in defensive efficiency at the moment. However, if Gran Canaria has become the EuroCup's fifth most efficient offense thanks to impeccable timing, Bourg has risen even higher in that ranking, to second, on the strength of its remarkable shot-making.

The table below lists this season's top players in Synergy Shot Making (SSM), a metric calculated by subtracting a player's expected points per shot from the points per shot he actually scored. The result is a figure representing how much he scored above expectations. 

Expectation in this case is measured by Synergy Shot Quality (SSQ), which takes a data-driven, league-specific approach to the vast of amount of data Synergy collects on every shot to estimate the value of each in the EuroCup over the last decade. The model integrates everything from the type of shot to where it was attempted from to what kind of defensive pressure was applied among nearly a dozen other variables.

Taking those estimates and applying them to every field goal attempted so far this season, the league's most effective shooters relative to expectations are apparent. As the table shows, several of the players who have taken great advantage of their shot attempts play for Bourg. Pierre Pelos may not attempt a ton of shots each game, but he's having one of the longest sustained 70%-55%-90% shooting seasons in modern European basketball history. With Frantz Massenat and Isiaha Mike also falling in the top five on the table above, it's not hard to see why Bourg has been so difficult to beat; several of its key players have been performing far beyond expectations.  

Joventut Badalona is the only other team with multiple players on this ranking. Joel Parra and Andres Feliz have not only exceeded expectations by consistently making their shots, but have done so despite high-SSQ attempts. Frutti Extra Bursaspor currently leads the EuroCup in SSQ, but Joventut and several other teams towards the top of the standings are close. 

Unsurprisingly, given how often they create for themselves off the dribble, Tony Taylor of Turk Telekom Ankara and Yogi Ferrell of Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana have the lowest SSQ among this season's 10 leaders on the SSM scale. While one might expect that it's easier for a three-point marksman like Robin Christen of Ulm to climb these rankings, there's a variety of roles represented. 

It is worth noting that there is one group that tends to struggle with SSM and that is lob-catching big men. Players who operate almost exclusively around the rim face an uphill battle to exceed expectations given how high their SSQ is to begin with. Ismael Kamagate of Paris Basketball, for example, has an SSM of just 0.03, but given that his EuroCup-high SSQ of 1.52 dwarfs every player in the table above, that's more of an accomplishment than meets the eye.  

It goes without saying that it is important for teams to work hard to create high-quality shots and avoid low-quality ones on the offensive end. But at the EuroCup level, where highly effective play execution is a given, it's the final step of shot-making by the players often determines just how potent a team will ultimately prove to be.

Players scoring above expectations

Veolia Towers Hamburg added depth to its roster by signing [Anthony Polite](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/anthony-polite/011937/) until the end of the season, the club announced on Saturday. Polite (1.98 meters, 25 years old) arrives from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne where he saw limited action in eight Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and six French League games.

This is Polite's first professional season in Europe. He spent the past five years at Florida State University, where he averaged 9.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 24 games last season. A native of Switzerland, Polite suffered an injury in his first season at Florida State and had to redshirt. He then increased his totals in all the main areas – minutes, points, rebounds and assists – over the next four years, apart from his last year as he dropped from 10.1 points per game to 9.9.

Hamburg adds forward Polite to the mix

U-BT Cluj-Napoca added more experience to its roster by signing small forward [Jalen Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jalen-jones/009298/), the club announced Friday night. Jones (2.03 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Hapoel Haifa of Israel where he averaged 11.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists. Jones returns to the 7DAYS EuroCup where he made his debut last season with Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse, posting 8.9 points and 3.9 rebounds.

A native of Texas, USA, Jones played college basketball in his home state for SMU and then Texas A&M. He has played professionally for New Orleans, Dallas and Cleveland in the NBA; for Maine, Greensboro, Texas, Canton and Capital City in the G League and for Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain. He appeared in 13 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games with Baskonia during the 2018-19 season. Before Bourg, he also played with the Italian club Openjobmetis Varese.
