ratiopharm Ulm has improved its record in the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup to 3-3 after beating Prometey Slobozhanske 105-106 at Zalgirio Arena in Kaunas, Lithuania, on Wednesday evening. This defeat means that Prometey now finds itself 3-3.

Yago Dos Santos had a very impressive night for Ulm, finishing with a 26-point, 10-assist double-double. Curiously, the final assist Dos Santos provided was for a game-winning reverse layup by Karim Jallow, who had 24 points on a perfect night from the floor, going 7-for-7 from two-point range and 2-for-2 from three. Nicolas Bretzel was also very important in the win, scoring 17 points. For Prometey, Gian Clavell left it all out on the floor, ending with a game-high 34 points, but ultimately his team came up just short. DJ Stephens, Issuf Sanon and Caleb Agada also finished with a double-digit number of points, having scored 18, 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Bretzel got Ulm off to a strong start during the game at Zalgirio Arena, scoring nine of his team's first 12 points in the first quarter. Prometey, playing in its second temporary home of the season, began to fight back through the likes of Agada, Stephens and Dustin Hogue, but Ulm ended the first 10 minutes five points ahead, 22-27. In the second quarter, Ulm managed to keep Prometey at arm's length, with the playmaking of Juan Nunez and Dos Santos starting to have a major impact on proceedings. The visitors were able to open up a lead as big as 12 before ending the second quarter up 10, 43-53. At halftime, Ulm had Dos Santos, Bretzel and Jallow all sitting on 10 points each. Little changed for Prometey after the break, and it even found itself down 18 points, 64-82, after Dos Santos drained his fourth three-pointer of the quarter. Going into the final quarter of play, Prometey was trailing by 15, 71-86, and it appeared as though Ulm was going to coast to a road win. Yet, Clavell and Sanon made sure that the visitors did not have it that easy, with these two stepping up during a 12-0 Prometey run to make it 83-86 with 6:30 minutes left in the quarter. From there, it became a back-and-forth affair which saw Clavell and Stephens take center stage. Ulm had largely lost the rhythm it had in the previous three quarters, but it kept finding ways of putting points of the board. Then, in the final 30 seconds, Clavell drained a three-pointer before later seeing a floater drop to make it a 105-104 game with 9.3 seconds to go. After being 18 points down, it appeared as though Prometey was going to come away with a big win in Kaunas. Yet, Dos Santos drove to the rim and dished the ball off to Jallow, whose reverse layup put Ulm up for good, 105-106, with 1.9 left on the clock. Sanon attempted a half-court heave, but it was off target, much to the delight of everyone on the Ulm bench.

Over the last three rounds, no player in the 7DAYS EuroCup has scored more points than [Jamel Morris](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jamel-morris/011931/) of 7-Bet Lietkabelis Panevezys. So far this season, the guard, who turned 30 earlier this month, has been averaging 18.4 points per game on 44.7% shooting from two-point range and 40.0% from three.

However, the majority of his production has come between Rounds 3 and 5, during which time he is scoring 23.3 points per night. The beginning of the season has not been as productive for Morris.

On his EuroCup debut, Morris scored 8 points but went 0-for-3 from deep and finished the game with a PIR of -1. In Round 2, an 80-76 home win over ratiopharm Ulm, Morris had 14 points on 2-for-7 shots from three-point range and ended up with a PIR of 1.

However, starting from Round 3, Morris has been on a roll. In each of the last three games, he has scored more than 20 points, setting a new season-best on a week-by-week basis.

Due to this, Morris has been the most prolific scorer in the competition over the last three rounds. His combined total of 70 points over that span is four points better than the next best, Kyle Allman of Paris Basketball.

Morris recorded 21 points in Round 3, making all 3 of his two-pointers and going 3-of-6 from three against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse. Then, he posted 24 points in a home win over U-BT Cluj-Napoca, hitting 5-of-12 shots from inside the arc and half – 4-of-8 – of his attempts from distance.

Last week, against Umana Reyer Venice, Morris topped his previous season-high for scoring, finishing the game with 25 points, the most of any player in Round 5. He did so by seeing 3-of-7 of his shots from two-point range drop, while he also went 3-of-6 from behind the arc.

The Lietkabelis guard is clearly feeling more at home in the EuroCup. After scoring a single-digit number of points on his EuroCup debut, and averaging 11.0 points on 20.0% three-point shooting over the first two games of the season, Morris has averaged 23.3 points on 50.0% accuracy from deep in the three games since. After attempting 10 triples and making just 2 in the first two rounds, Morris has made 10 triples on 20 attempts in the next three appearances.

What's more, Morris had an average PIR of 0 after his first two appearances – he had -1 against Prometey Slobozhanske and 1 against Ulm – but he has since turned that around, averaging a PIR of 19.7 from Round 3 onwards. Heading into Lietkabelis's game at home to Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana on Wednesday night, Morris – the EuroCup's most in-form scorer – will be eager to keep up his own hot streak and make it three wins from three at Cido Arena.

 Promitheas Patras is in search of a new head coach after Makis Giatras has stepped down due to health reasons. Giatras, 51, is in his third stint coaching Promitheas, which he first joined in 2013. He guided the club all the way from Greece’s fourth division to become a EuroCup contender. This season Promitheas is tied for second place in Group B with a 4-2 record.

Germani Brescia made official on Wednesday that guard Troy Caupain will have to undergo surgery to treat a shoulder injury and will be sidelined for around four months. Caupain (1.93 meters, 27 years old) suffered the injury last November 1 in a 7DAYS EuroCup Group A game against Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse. After he was monitored for progress since then, team doctors concluded that the shortest route to full recovery would be surgery. Caupain has started in all of his four EuroCup appearances this season, averaging 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 steals. As such, Brescia will try to rise in Group A without the services of one of the team's top contributors.

Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse bounced back from its first loss of the season to ace a Round 6 battle for first place in Group A on Tuesday despite playing on the road and trailing by double digits in the first half.

The resulting 80-85 comeback triumph on Joventut Badalona's court gave Bourg a 3-1 away mark, with its 5-1 overall record making it Group A's exclusive leader even before the rest of the teams play on Wednesday. 

Bourg had already beaten Umana Reyer Venice (73-79) in Round 1 and Germani Brescia (69-71) in Round 4, but coming to Spain to face Badalona was a tough challenge. Bourg had been unable to defeat Joventut in two previous tries in 2020.

"It's important to take another one on the road," forward James Palmer, who led Bourg's effort with 23 points, said. "We are not just a home team, we want to compete everywhere."

Nonetheless, the outcome seemed to have been leaning the other way in the first half, when Joventut built a 40-29 advantage midway through the second quarter that Bourg battled to trim to 48-45 at halftime. At that point, Joventut had already dished 15 assists amid stellar shooting: 11-for-15 on two-pointers (73%) and 6-for-11 from deep (54%).

"In the beginning of the game we made a lot of mistakes," Bourg head coach Frederic Fauthoux said. "We left a lot of spacing for Badalona's offense, especially \[Guillem\] Vives and \[Andres\] Feliz. In the second half, we did a better job, especially against them, so they could not create that spacing. We were very focused on that."

As a result, Bourg reduced Joventut's offensive production, limiting the hosts' ball circulation and shooting accuracy. In the final quarter, Joventut was held to just 3 assists while making no three-pointers from 5 attempts and scoring just 14 points.

"We all played defense in the second half, and that led us to win," Palmer concluded. "It was a great team win."

Bourg's second-half defense gave it first place in Group A

Pierre Pelos and James Palmer made key contributions to the hard-fought road victory that Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse pulled out in Badalona on Tuesday night. They combined for 36 points and a PIR of 47, almost half of the total points and PIR of their team.

Palmer achieved career-highs in points (23), assists (5) and index rating (28), surpassing the marks he established just a week before against Frutti Extra Bursaspor (20, 3 and 24, respectively). Palmer had already 19 points after three quarters and even though he wasn’t so prolific in the last one, he showed up with a nice baseline layup and key free throws in crunch time to seal the outcome.

Pelos was a timely weapon for Bourg despite not-so-big numbers, as 7 of his total 13 points came in a 2-minute span, early in the fourth quarter, that capped a 2-9 run which gave the visitors a 68-74 edge and the confidence they needed to win. He also provided key rebounds at both ends when the game was on the line that prevented Bourg from falling.

Palmer and Pelos powered up in Badalona

After a 0-2 start in Group A, Umana Reyer Venice recorded its fourth consecutive win by thrashing Germani Brescia 60-80 on the road. Both teams know each other well and it was how Reyer took better care of the ball that made the difference.

Reyer finished the game with 21 assists and 11 steals. Jayson Granger led his team with 6 assists and Yankuba Sima finished the game with 3 steals. On the other hand, Brescia had fewer assists (16) and steals (8) than its opponents and also finished the game with 16 turnovers.

Reyer's defense forced Brescia to shoot the ball with really low percentages. Brescia made 50% of its two-point shots and shot 22.2% from downtown, making just 6 of 27 three-pointers and also missing half of its 12 free throw attempts. Reyer buried 20 of 29 two-pointers (69.0%) in what was the biggest key to this game and was also more effective from all angles (34.5% 3FG, 71.4% FT). Brescia's first-half percentages (31% 2FG, 15% 3FG) allowed Reyer to build a 24-46 halftime lead and the visitors kept total control of the game throughout the second half.
