Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse took sole possession of first place in Group A by beating Joventut Badalona 80-85 at Palu Olimpic on Tuesday night. The visitors trailed by doubñe-digits in the second quarter, but they struck back in the second half and allowed just 14 points in the fourth quarter to win the game. Bourg improved to 5-1 while Joventut dropped to 4-2.

James Palmer led the way for Bourg with 23 points and 5 assists. Pierre Pelos posted 13 points and 5 rebounds and Jordan Floyd provided 11 points and 3 steals. Henry Elenson had 16 points for Joventut and Pep Busquests scored a career-high 15 points in the losing effort.

Busquets got the hosts going with 3 three-pointers in 5 minutes for an early 13-10 home lead that Kyle Guy and Elenson extended to 20-12. The visitors also found some offensive momentum with rotations, though, and finished the first quarter trailing 24-19. Maxime Courby and Axel Julian combined from downtown to give Bourg its first lead, 26-27, early in the second. The home team reacted in style with a 14-2 run based on a smooth offense to earn a double-digit margin, 40-29, but Bourg responded with the same weapon; offense, as it scored 18 points in 5 minutes to reach halftime down 48-45.

In a replay of what happened in the second quarter, Bourg managed to get ahead 52-53 after Frantz Massenat drilled a three soon after the break. Joventut didn’t react as strongly as it did before, but managed to chain together a couple of threes from Pau Ribas and Zsombor Maronka to enter the last stanza up 66-65. Pelos put Bourg in front 68-74 with 7 points in a row, boosting visitors’ confidence, which was a key factor when Tomic and Elenson took the reins to even things at 78-78 entering crunch time. Julian drilled a corner three and Palmer added a free throw for a 78-82 edge, and even though Pau Ribas scored to make it a one-possession game with 28 seconds to play and Palmer could only convert once from the line, consecutive misses from behind the arc by Andres Feliz and Elenson ruined all Joventut hopes of a miracle comeback.

Bourg stuns Joventut, 80-85, to move atop Group A

In an all-Italian League showdown in Group A, Umana Reyer Venice confirmed its good momentum by thrashing Germani Brescia 60-80 at Palaleonessa A2a on Tuesday for its fourth consecutive win. Allerik Freeman led the winners with 22 points, Derek Willis added 13 while Amedeo Tessitori and Jordan Parks each had 11 for Reyer. CJ Massinburg scored 12 points for Brescia, which dropped to 2-4 in the standings and is now on a three-game losing streak. David Moss added 10 for the hosts.

Kenny Gabriel and Tessitori combined for all the points in a 0-7 run that gave Brescia an early 7-11 lead. Tessitori got help from Allerik Freeman and Derek Willis to boost the visitors' margin to 13-21 after 10 minutes. Willis kept pushing Reyer and Riccardo Moraschini's fastbreak layup prompted Brescia call timeout, 13-29, after a 2-16 run. Freeman's buzzer-beating three-pointer fixed the halftime score at 24-46.

Little changed after the break, as Reyer boosted its margin to 24-52 on a three-pointer by Freeman, kept a 38-64 lead at the end of the third quarter and did not find much trouble to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.

But it was the first game after a long period where we needed to squeeze the energy of our players to try to win, even in our domestic league. We had Amedeo Della Valle out in the last few days due to the virus and it was clear for everybody that he had no energy to play the game. After 5 minutes, John Petrucelli was out, so we decided to start big. I think the start was even good, with some ideas. After that, without our main scorers, was, to be honest, a bit tough to try to find the way to arrive to the basket. We also built some good shots that we never scored: open threes, layups, free throws. It is tough to play against such a good team like Reyer that is deep, talented, sized. So obviously, once I felt that the game was almost over, and the way to come back to the game was doing an extra effort, I needed to take care of the rotations and try to focus on the next game. "We played differently in the second half than in the first. We controlled more the tempo, we were down for a long time but we stayed in the game. After we scored some good baskets we did some good plays on defense, so I’m happy for the win. \[Leading the group\] is an extra bonus, but we deserve to be first because this group played very well, they believe in us, so it’s a great, a very good job.

"We are very happy for this victory because Joventut Badalona is a great team. They know this competition and they have a deep roster. I think we deserved this win because in the second half we controlled the tempo of this game, we found good shots in offense and we got some stops in the end so it was a great effort and a great win for us. In the beginning of the game, we made a lot of mistakes, we left a lot of spacing for Badalona’s offense, especially \[Guillem\] Vives and \[Andres\] Feliz. In the second half, we did a better job, especially against them, so they could not create that spacing, we were very focused on that."

### Joventut Badalona head coach Carles Duran:

"Congratulations to Bourg. For us, it is very difficult to win if you play bad basketball. There have been many things; energy, toughness, shooting percentages, etc. It was not our best game, we didn’t play well. We lost against a team that did better, especially in the second half. They put more toughness, at the level this competition demands, and we didn’t. They won because they played better than us."

### Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse forward James Palmer:

"In the second half, we had a better defensive effort. It was a team effort. We all played defense in the second half and that led us to win. It was a great team win. It’s important to take another one on the road, we are not just a home team, we want to compete everywhere."

Coach Fauthoux: 'We deserve to be first'

Turk Telekom Ankara captured its fifth consecutive victory in Group B by downing Promitheas Patras 83-98 on Tuesday. It was a special game for Jerian Grant, for all the right reasons.

Grant is a member of a distinguished basketball family with many links to Promitheas. His father, Harvey Grant, played in the NBA, and so did his uncle, Horace Grant, a four-time NBA champion. 

Jerian Grant has two brothers, Jerai and Jerami, who are professional basketball players. Jerai played for Promitheas in each of the last two seasons. In the first one, Jerai and Jerian were teammates in Patras, even though Jerian did not play in the 7DAYS EuroCup that season.

Jerian Grant had 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and a PIR of 28 in Turk Telekom Ankara's road victory against one of his former teams, Promitheas Patras.

Grant does it all against Promitheas

Of course, Grant wanted to leave a good impression against his former team and did it right away, scoring 10 points in a 5-15 opening run that put Turk Telekom ahead for good. He finished the game with a career-high 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 7 fouls drawn and a PIR of 28, a new personal best. 

Grant knew the environment and some of his opponents and maximized those advantages. During the 33 minutes Grant played, Turk Telekom outscored Promitheas by 22 points, which means that in the 7 minutes he was resting, Promitheas outscored his team by 7. It was a true winning performance from Grant.

Grant returned to Patras and left victorious 

Cameron Reynolds had a first quarter for the ages on Tuesday against Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv to lift Buducnost VOLI Podgorica to a 64-70 road win. Reynolds scored 17 points on 5-of-5 three-point shooting in the game’s first 6 minutes and 2 seconds to establish a 9-23 lead and his team held on the rest of the way.

Hapoel struggled early as it adjusted to being without the EuroCup’s assist leader, J,Covan Brown, who was out with an illness and big man Jaylen Hoard, who has an ankle injury. Moreover, the team is integrating recent signing Chinanu Onuaku into the squad at center.

Buducnost took advantage early, first by attacking the paint through its dominant center, Alpha Kaba, and then through the hot hands of Reynolds. And that blazing start proved valuable once Hapoel made its adjustments.

The hosts outscored Buducnost 37-29 in the middle two quarters and closed to within 2 with the first basket of the fourth quarter. But, as often happens when a team is chasing for so long – especially a short-handed team, Hapoel did not have the final push to take over in the fourth quarter.

Reynolds finished with a season-high 22 points on 5-of-6 three-point shooting. Hapoel paid extra attention to him after his scorching start, but the damage was already done.

Kaba, who posted his fourth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, spoke glowingly of Reynolds’s contributions after the game: "Today Reynolds just did his thing. I’m really happy for him. He’s a great shooter and we need him at this level every game."

If Buducnost can get Reynolds and Kaba at this level every game, they will be one of the most dangerous teams in the 7DAYS EuroCup.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica never trailed in capturing a 64-70 road victory over Hapoel Vegan Friendly Tel Aviv at Shlomo Group Arena on Tuesday night. The result dropped Hapoel to 3-3 in the standings.

Kaba dominated inside and Reynolds drilled 4 three-pointers in the first 5 minutes as the visitors jumped to a 7-20 start. A three by Bell-Haynes gave Buducnost a 14-26 lead after 10 minutes. After trailing by 14, Hapoel got 5 points from Munford in a 7-0 run to get within 28-35. The margin settled at 32-40 at halftime.

Onuaku and Munford led a Hapoel charge late in the third quarter and Jordan McRae free throws got the hosts within 4, which was how the quarter ended: 51-55. Tomer Ginat got Hapoel within 2 with the first basket of the fourth quarter, but Kaba came to life with a pair of blocks and 2 baskets in the paint as Buducnost stretched the margin to 55-63 and held on the rest of the way.

Buducnost triumphs in Tel Aviv, 64-70

Jerian Grant added 18 points and 6 assists, Tyrique Jones posted 14 points and 10 rebounds, Nathan Sestina scored 13 and Semih Erden had 10 for Turk Telekom. Joe Young had 30 points for Promitheas, which dropped to 4-2. Arnoldas Kulboka added 19 and Trevis Simpson 10.

Grant had 10 quick points to give Turk Telekom an early double-digit lead, 5-15. Bouteille and Sestina each made a triple, and Tyrique Jones dunked to keep the visitors way ahead, 17-27, after 10 minutes. Kulboka and Young fueled a 7-0 run that brought Promitheas within 24-27. Young kept pacing the hosts but Tyrique Jones and an unstoppable Grant restored a 36-44 margin at halftime.

Kulbokas, Young and Simpson each struck from downtown to get Promitheas within 46-48. Boutielle rescued Turk Telekom and got help from Erden and Tony Taylor to establish a 63-69 lead after 30 minutes. Jones and Sestina stepped up early in the fourth quarter to give the visitors a 69-80 margin. Turk Telekom soon boosted it to 71-86 and never looked back.
