George Conditt scored 7 of his personal-best 22 points in the fourth quarter to help Promitheas Patras hold on for an 81-77 victory over Veolia Towers Hamburg on Tuesday night at Dimitris Tofalos Arena. The game featured 10 lead changes in the fourth quarter alone before Joe Young sank go-ahead free throws in the final minute.

Young finished with 23 points for the winners and Conditt also collected 10 rebounds for his first EuroCup double-double. Trevis Simpson added 10 points for Promitheas. Yoeli Childs shined for Hamburg with a double-double in the first half (12 points and 10 rebounds) before finishing with 17 points and 16 boards. Kendale McCullum scored 15 in defeat, James Woodard added 12 and Seth Hinrichs 11.

Despite committing 4 turnovers in the first 5 minutes, strong play by Childs helped Hamburg surge ahead 5-11. Anthony Cowan and Young took charge to rally the hosts to lead by as many as 6 before Hinrichs’s tip-in at the buzzer made it 21-17. Hamburg tied it early in the second, but had no answer for Conditt, whose big plays at both ends soon had Promitheas back on top. The margin grew and free throws by Dimitris Kaklamanakis gave the hosts a 45-36 halftime advantage.

Game News

McCullum had an assist and free throws in a 0-7 Hamburg run to start the second half.  Slowly but surely, Promitheas pushed back and a three-point play by Cowan got the margin to 59-50. Hamburg answered with 8 straight points and McCullum ended the quarter with free throws that made it 61-60.  Jonas Wohlfarth-Botterman’s hook shot gave Hamburg its first lead since the first quarter, 63-64, and resulted in a Promitheas timeout. The lead changed on each of the game’s next six baskets and continued to change hands going into the final minute. Childs tied it at 74-74 with free throws with 55 seconds to play and then Young drew a foul shooting a three-pointer and made the resulting 3 shots. After a timeout, a steal by Michalis Tsairelis led to a Nemanja Dangubic slam that all but iced the win for Promitheas.

That being said, again, if we don’t make those mistakes in the first half, it doesn’t come down to that."

"We knew that they were going to come out strong and physical in the second half. They missed some shots in the first that they aren’t used to missing, so we knew that they were going to make some shots and they were going to keep it a close game. We just understood that we had to play a little bit harder than them and that’s what we did."

"Unfortunately, we always had crucial moments in our game. In the second quarter, we didn't play as hard as Patras and we dug us a hole. We had to fight our way out first. Then we brought more intensity into the game, which was good for our game. In the last minute, we missed a few shots and gave the ball away. We have to work in practice to ensure that we don't make the many mistakes we made today."

Coach Giatras: 'We played excellent offense'

Popovic watches a lot of games and follows the EuroCup as one of its biggest fans, so it is always interesting to read what he has to say. Born in Cetinje, Montenegro, he started his career with hometown club Lovcen and also played for Nea Kifissia of Greece and Mega Leks of Serbia before joining Buducnost in 2016. He has been in the EuroCup longer than most, as this is Popovic's sixth season in the competition. Follow him on these pages all season long. **

Here we are again, in another EuroCup season. We've played three games and won two of them. We were close to losing against Promitheas in this last round. We had the game under control for like three quarters. We were up by 19 points or so and then suddenly they started playing some zone press, some zone defense, and we got a little bit lost. We made some quick decisions that they punished on the other side. They scored some threes, some transition points and in a moment when I looked at the board, we were up by just 5 points. I was a little bit confused about how quickly we lost the advantage. But in the end, luckily, we managed to win the game. And it's important for us, especially at home, because first of all, we lost against Hamburg, which we didn't expect. There were plenty of reasons. We didn't play at our level and two days before that, we had an ABA League game against Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade. We had to go there and were not at our maximum in Round 1 against Hamburg, so this is a very important win for us against Promitheas.

"It will be my first time in London, so I am very excited."

Aleksandar Lazic did not score but had the game-saving block at the end of regulation. He made a great play. He was on the bench most of the game but Coach put him on the court for the last possession of regulation to play defense so that we were able to switch and he made a great play! I left the guy under the rim and he made a great, great play running from the sideline and catching him to block the shot. It was a critical play and I am glad he forced overtime and won the game.

Our next EuroCup game is in London! It will be my first time in London, so I am very excited about it. Being from Montenegro, we don't have many chances to visit London because we need a visa. And that visa is usually short-term. You need a lot of time to get a visa and when you get it, it's like a three-month or six-month duration. So this is a unique opportunity to go to London and visit the city, so we are very excited. We will play at Wembley Arena, a very popular place. I watched them against Gran Canaria. I saw that they had ups and downs, but they showed some good things on the court. They play zone from time to time. They were switching so it's going to be a challenge for us to play on the road. We go on a 10-day trip: first we play against FMP in Belgrade, then we go to London and then Igokea in Serbia. All three games are very specific and a little bit tricky for us. We have to stay sharp on the road, changing cities every two days, and get as many wins as possible before the break. I would like to see something cool in London, but I think that we will not have time because we will be in a hotel next to the arena, more than one hour away from the center. In most cities, we just get a stamp in our passport and that's it. So let London be one more! 

Looking around the EuroCup, there are a lot of good young players out there. I am 26 and feel like an experienced guy compared to all these guys. A lot of times I catch myself thinking: am I young? Am I old? Am I experienced? I guess I am somewhere in the middle. This is my sixth EuroCup season, plus one season in the EuroLeague, so I think that I am pretty experienced for this competition. Seeing a lot of new young guys is making me happy. I wanted to mention Fedor Zugic, of course. He is a great talent and a very skilled player. He's very young and I think that this season he has shown that he leveled up his game. I watched their game against Brescia and that was an interesting game, just like Prometey against Bursaspor. I saw Issuf Sanon and he is playing well. Other than these two games, there are young, interesting players on most teams. I like Olek Balcerowski of Gran Canaria, he looks really strong this season, especially after the EuroBasket, where he gained some confidence. It is obvious on the court. So like I said, there are a lot of new young guys, and we will enjoy seeing how they improve.

This EuroCup season is going to be like really, really interesting. After three games, only Bourg is undefeated. There are seven teams with 2-1 records in our group. That's the thing that we all like to see, you cannot predict anything. Some games that on paper are easy to win, you can lose, but also some games where you come as an underdog, you can win. I think that's the beauty of the EuroCup and I think we will see a lot of that stuff in the end. We know last season in the playoffs there were a lot of upsets. So it's interesting, we are all looking forward to playing and to see what's going to happen. 

We changed a lot from one season to another; I think we have eight new players and a new coaching staff. In the preseason, we were in a situation no other team had: we had only four players. All the other guys played for their national teams, so we had a very specific preseason. But I think that in the last couple of games we kept some rhythm. We have a lot of room to improve but I think that we can show some good basketball this season. We showed that we are improving, which is important, but it's a long road ahead of us. And I think that we will make some steps ahead compared to last season.

2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup highlights: Petar Popovic, Buducnost

The first goal, of course, is making it to the playoffs. We have to go one game at a time. We have to try to collect as many wins as possible. Our goal is to be in the playoffs and we will do our best to achieve our goals. We know from these past years that we cannot predict much, especially with viruses and injuries. We have a 12-13 man roster, so if one or two guys go out, we are not the same team, but as we said before, that's the beauty of basketball, you cannot predict things. But of course, our goal is to go in the playoffs and to be placed as high as possible at the end of the EuroCup regular season.

Round 4 of the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season tips off tonight, which means it’s time to set your EuroCup Fantasy Challenge lineups and here are some tips for your team.

This time, we are recommending players who are both in fine form and are playing against teams that either play at high paces or have holes in their defense. Here are some fantasy tips before Round 4.

[Andrew Albicy](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/andrew-albicy/003425/), Gran Canaria (10.8 credits) – Albicy is back and will be motivated this week when Gran Canaria visits Paris Basketball. The playmaker posted a PIR of 18 in his first appearances of the season last week and now the Frenchman will play in the city where he began his professional career against a team that plays at a fast pace. It could be a tailor-made game for Albicy.

[Jordan McRae](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/jordan-mcrae/007996/), Hapoel Tel Aviv (10.2 credits) – He only joined the team late in the preseason and quickly found his scoring touch to net 21 points and a PIR of 22 last week at Turk Telekom Ankara. Now Hapoel returns home and plays a Dolomiti Energia Trento team that has allowed the second-highest average PIR in the competition. It could be a big game for McRae.

EuroCup Fantasy Challenge tips Round 4

[Yigitcan Saybir](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/yigitcan-saybir/006693/), Frutti Extra Bursaspor (6.4 credits) – Even though Saybir has come off the bench in all three games so far, he’s played big minutes and put up strong numbers; he has averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds with his only weakness being subpar free-throw shooting. This week’s opponent, ratiopharm Ulm, is in the bottom part of the EuroCup in defensive points and PIR allowed, which could make Saybir a bargain this week.

[Derek Willis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/derek-willis/009664/), Umana Reyer Venice (11.0 credits) – Last season with Joventut Badalona, Willis averaged a PIR of 12.9 and his PIR has risen in each of his three appearances for Reyer this season, culminating at 23 in last week’s road win at U-BT Cluj-Napoca. On Wednesday he and Reyer host Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, which has struggled defensively this season and Willis could be primed to take advantage.

[Erkan Yilmaz](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/erkan-yilmaz/006372/), Turk Telekom Ankara (7.1 credits) – Yilmaz has been lights out as a shooter for Turk Telekom, which this week faces the team that has allowed the most points in the league this season, Slask Wroclaw. Yilmaz has scored a dozen points and posted a PIR of at least 15 in each of his last two games and he’s available for just 7.1 credits.

Gian Clavell, Prometey: 'I just want to win'

Prometey Slobozhanske is in a unique situation this season. The Ukrainian-based club cannot play in its home country because of the ongoing war and thus has moved its operations to Riga, Latvia, after receiving wild cards from both the EuroCup and the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League to compete this season. Thus far Prometey is making Ukrainian fans proud, as it sits atop the Latvian-Estonian League and is 2-1 in Group A of the EuroCup Regular Season. Last week Prometey beat last season's finalist Frutti Extra Bursaspor 90-84 at home behind 26 points from Gian Clavell, who is the subject of this week's [Eurocupbasketball.com](http://Eurocupbasketball.com) interview. "This is literally the first team I have been on that we all are away from our homes," Clavell said. "So especially the Ukrainian players feel at home when \[Ukrainian fans\] come. They can talk to them. They feel their support. So, yeah, we feel very happy and are very thankful for those fans that travel and come to support us." 

**Hi Gian, congratulations on the win over Frutti Extra Bursaspor. What was the key to beating one of the powerhouses in the competition?** 

"First of all, I'm glad we got the win, especially against a good team like Bursaspor. They have been really good the last couple of years and it definitely was a big win for us. We just tried to be aggressive. We just tried to play our best game after the loss to Brescia. I think we lost by 34, so we needed to show a sense of urgency to go get the win."

"I think we've got a great team. We can really make some noise in the EuroCup."

**You played against your former team. Was that an extra motivation in this game?** 

"Every time you play against a former team is always a form of motivation. But all I have is all love for Bursa. I have good memories, especially since my wife was pregnant when I was playing in Bursa, so I have a little extra love for them. But yes, I have good friends, I have a really good relationship with the trainers, so I'm glad I got to see them. It's always good to see some familiar faces and I can't wait to see them again in Bursa."

**Issuf Sanon had a big game in that win. He’s still a young player. How good can he be?**

"He can be really good, man. He can be really good. Of course, he is still young. He has to improve a lot of things, just like all of us, but he can be really good. If he can get consistent and get a consistent shot, I think he can take that next step to a bigger EuroLeague team, maybe NBA, you know, but he's got to stay focused, stay consistent and just put the work in." 

**D.J. Stephens is one of the most exciting players to watch in the EuroCup. What’s it like playing with him?**

"It's easy, man! I love playing with him. I know last year I played against him and I didn't like playing against him because there's nothing you could do when they throw it up. He's just going to dunk, regardless, no matter what. But this year, I'm glad I can be one of his teammates. He's really a great guy. That's the best part of him. He's one of the best guys I've known and it's really easy to play with him. We have good communication, we got good chemistry. We understand each other and he understands the game which makes it easier for all of us to give him those passes and just make him a good player."

**For fans who are not familiar, tell us a little about the logistics of the team this season with you guys being a Ukrainian team playing in Riga.**

"Yes. So we are from Ukraine. We are from a little outside of Dnipro and they wanted to play basketball, so they moved to Latvia. And our team consists of literally half of the national team of Ukraine, the Americans, Ondrej \[Balvin\], who is from the Czech Republic, and Caleb Agada, who is from Canada. So I think we've got a great team. We can really make some noise in the EuroCup, especially because we have a really good coach who cares about the players. He cares about you getting better which is all you want from a coach, and we are a complete team. I feel we are very deep. Anybody can play 20 minutes or plus. We don't have to play 40 minutes a game, none of that. So I think that will be to our advantage for us once we get to March and April."

**What type of fan support are you feeling from fans in Latvia?**

"It's hard, man, because the team is from Ukraine, so people are really starting to get to know us here in Latvia. So sometimes they will come to games little by little. But like I said, I mean, we are making noise and that's how they are finding out about us here in Latvia, too. I know that Ukraine, for those Ukrainian fans that travel, or just stay here and support us, you know, we really appreciate them. We try to give them a show for two hours since they have some hard times over there in Ukraine with the war. So we're trying to just play as hard as we can for them and trying to represent Ukraine as best as we can."

**We have seen groups of fans from Ukraine making their way to the games. What has that meant to the players?**

"We love it, we love it. We feel like we are playing in Ukraine. This is literally the first team I have been on that we all are away from our homes. I mean, we all, literally, this is the first time I've been on that. We all are always from our homes. So especially the Ukrainian players feel at home when they come. They can talk to them. They feel their support. So, yeah, we feel very happy and are very thankful for those fans that travel and come to support us." 

"We're trying to just play as hard as we can for [the fans] and trying to represent Ukraine as best as we can."

**You played in Ukraine last season before the war. How did that impact your decision to sign with Prometey this season?**

"Well, it's a fun fact from it. Prometey offered me last year before Budivelnik and I just said, no, I don't know why I said no. And I ended up signing with Budivelnik. And last year, with the war going on, they stopped all the games and stuff like that. So they came this year again and I said, 'you know what? I like this style of game'. I like the coach and I like the team that they had last year. They had a really good team with really good players that had good chemistry. So I wanted to be a part of a winning team. I wanted to win games and I feel like I made the best decision."

**You will play against Joventut Badalona in Spain before the break. How much are you looking forward to that game? What needs to be done to get a chance to win at Palau Olimpic?** 

"Joventut is a good team, and they have good players: Kyle Guy, Tomic, Pau Ribas, and I think they have a Dominican point guard \[Andres Feliz\], as well. They have Joel Parra... they have a good squad over there, man. I feel like we just got to play our game. We got to rebound the ball, we got to play defense. We got to be locked in on defense for 40 minutes. But we know they are a good basketball team. They move the ball, they find the open guy. They really don't force anything. And then we just got to play our game on offense. We've got to run the ball and just move the ball side to side to get the easier shot, but it will be a good game. I'm excited to play against them. My wife is from Spain and like half of my family from my wife's side is from Spain. So I'm happy to go back to my second home." 

**As we look ahead, what would you consider to be a successful season for Prometey and for you, personally?**

"For Prometey, I feel we can qualify for the top eight. I feel like we can be either from the one spot to the eighth spot, you know, either one of them or just to qualify and just make a deep run in the playoffs. I feel like we got the team to do it. We haven't even figured out how to play consistently. So I feel like once we figure that out, we are going to be a hard team to play against. So yeah, just go as far as we can. Of course, we want to go to the championship game and win it, but we are just going to take it one game at a time. We are not going to watch, to go into the future and just make so many outcomes, because you never know. But yes, just make the playoffs and then just go as far as we can. It's one game at a time. And then for me personally, I just want to win games, man. I just want to win games. I know I have been in leagues in which I always come eighth or always come seventh or just barely going to the playoffs. So I just want to win, man. I just want to win as many games. I just want to win championships. And individually, whatever the team needs me to do at that moment, at that specific time, I will do it. So whatever the team needs me to be, and win games!"

London got off to a winning start at home in the EuroCup by beating Dolomiti Energia Trento 80-75 at Copper Box Arena in Round 2, with Ovie Soko putting in a very impressive performance that saw him earn tri-MVP honors for that week. It has lost both of its road games to this point, but back in the English capital, the expected large crowd at OVO Arena Wembley could spur the team on to its second victory of the campaign.

On the other end of the spectrum is Dolomiti Energia Trento, which has a 0-3 record but averages 20.3 assists per game. Trento will try to end its 15-game losing streak dating back to last season.

### Champs re-unite in neighboring clash

Two teams that did not start their season quite like they imagined will play a Round 4 game with a must-win feel to it when Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana (0-3) makes a 250 kilometer trip [to play Umana Reyer Venice](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/umana-reyer-venice-cedevita-olimpija-ljubljana/U2022/31/) (1-2) on Wednesday. Cedevita is the only winless team in Group A and Reyer picked up its first win of the season last week at Cluj-Napoca. The two sides played last season, splitting home wins, including Reyer's 77-70 win before Cedevita won 105-90 in Ljubljana.

It will be a chance for a pair of reigning EuroCup champions and frontcourt teammates from the past two seasons, Amar Alibegovic and Amedeo Tessitori, to catch up and go against one another. The two played for Virtus the past two seasons, helping it reach the EuroCup Semifinals in 2021, and win the 2022 crown. This season, both players have had up-and-down showings. Tessitori scored 12 points in the season opener, but has played only 6 minutes in the last two games, in which he was scoreless. Alibegovic scored in double digits in home games in Rounds 1 and 3, but was scoreless in Cedevita's only road game so far this season.

### Long awaited trips

In its 16th EuroCup season, Buducnost VOLI Podgorica (2-1), which has played 185 games in the competition, is set to do something it has not done before - travel for a EuroCup game on British soil. Tuesday's [visit to the London Lions](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/london-lions-buducnost-voli-podgorica/U2022/38/) (1-2) comes more than two decades after its last trip to face a team from London which came in the 2000-01 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season when Buducnost beat London Towers 88-95.

Earlier that same day, in the Round 4 opener in Group B, Veolia Towers Hamburg (2-1) will play its first official game in Greece when it [pays a visit to Promitheas Patras](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/promitheas-patras-veolia-towers-hamburg/U2022/37/) (2-1). Even though Cluj is a EuroCup newcomer it has been playing in European club basketball competitions for more than three decades, however, it has before never played against a Lithuanian opponent. It will also be a chance for Lietkabelis forward Zeljko Sakic to play against his former team, where he was a teammate of then-teenager Nandor Kuti and played under head coach Mihai Silvasan.

Another player who might see many of his former teammates is newly signed Frutti Extra Bursaspor (2-1) [swingman Sindarius Thornwell](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/news/bursaspor-brings-aboard-swingman-thornwell/). He made his competition debut with ratiopharm Ulm (1-2) last season and helped the team reach the quarterfinals by averaging 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists, starting in each of his 13 appearances. Round 4 at a glance

Joventut Badalona will be playing for the first time ever against Prometey Slobozhanske (2-1) on Wednesday in a Group A showdown in Spain. The hosts come off an impressive road win at Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, 78-100, with Henry Ellenson and Ante Tomic leading the winning effort with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Prometey defeated last season's runner-up, Frutti Extra Bursaspor, 90-84 behind Gian Clavell's 26 points.

After losing the second game, Joventut (2-1) is back on the winning track. It is second in the EuroCup in assists (20.3) and best at shooting from beyond the arc (52.8%). The hosts have the upper hand on Prometey in shooting accuracy from all ranges, but the visitors excel on defense, which has already won them two games this season, surprising many. Clavell (17.3 ppg.), DJ Stephens (12.3 ppg., 8.7 rpg.) and Caleb Agada (12 ppg.) are the main offensive trio for Prometey, so Joventut will have to pay close attention to them while also watching those defensive rebounds, since Prometey is third in the competition in offensive rebounding (12.7 orpg.). 

The debut season of the visitors continues to be on the rise, especially after a prestige win against Bursaspor. Jovenut averages a PIR of 99.3, so Prometey will have to work hard on all fronts in order to be in a position to win the game in Badalona. The hosts, true to their tradition, are more of an offensive team, so Prometey will have to close in on defense and watch for Tomic, Ellenson and Kyle Guy, three players who average 37.0 points per game.
