Germani Brescia and Prometey Slobozhanskeenter will face each other in Round 2 of the 7DAYS EuroCup with opposite records. Brescia lost 80-63 on the road to Joventut Badalona on opening night while Prometey shined in its competition debut by downing 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys 82-71. Brescia will try to use the support of its fans in its home opener at PalaLeonessa A2A to beat a confident-looking Prometey side.

Brescia was dealt a tough hand with its EuroCup opener as it had to travel to face one of the competition favorites in Joventut. The game was 53-49 in Joventut's favor entering the fourth quarter, but then Brescia was unable to keep pace with the hosts' scoring and went on to lose by 17. Amedeo Della Valle had Brescia's highest PIR with 19 after scoring 13 points and recording 4 assists. Brescia also had John Petrucelli and Troy Caupain finish with 13 and 11 points, respectively, but it needs to improve its ball movement after recording just 7 assists in the loss to Joventut.

Against the backdrop of the ongoing situation in Ukraine, Prometey enjoyed a strong start to life in the EuroCup from its temporary home of Riga, Latvia, as it outclassed Lietkabelis en route to an opening-round victory. Plenty of players impressed for Prometey, including Gian Clavell, DJ Stephens and DJ Kennedy, but perhaps the standout performer on the night was Caleb Agada, who had 16 points, 7 assists and 4 steals in the win. Prometey was able to take advantage of Lietkabelis's turnovers and turn them into points, while it also pushed the ball quickly upcourt to score in transition; a similar display at PalaLeonessa A2A should keep the Brescia crowd quiet.

### Slask to keep up its energy

Slask played well in its season opener, but a depleted side ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. Against a physical team like Buducnost, Slask will need to find a way to keep its energy levels high for all 40 minutes. It will also need to cut down on its turnovers and not allow Buducnost to build confidence with its transition game.

### Buducnost needs to find offensive rhythm

Buducnost will want to take a much better care of the ball after its 21 turnovers topped all teams in Round 1. It also struggled shooting, making just 43.6% of its two-pointers, the second-worst mark last week, and just 29.2% from long range. Head coach Vladimir Jovanovic spoke about the team not establishing a rhythm on offense, and it will likely need to find that rhythm to win in Wroclaw.

Keys to victory: Slask Wroclav vs. Buducnost Voli Podgorica

Two teams in search for a first win this season, Slask Wroclaw and Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, square off in the former’s Group B home opener on Tuesday. Even though both lost last week, there was more of a silver lining in Slask's performance. 

Slask suffered a 92-81 loss in a tough road test at Gran Canaria, but led for majority of the game and into the fourth quarter. Lukasz Kolenda shined with 23 points, tied for the most in Round 1. Slask got solid all-round performances from Jeremiah Martin (15 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds) and Jakub Niziol (13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals), as well.

Meanwhile, Buducnost fell at home against Veolia Towers Hamburg 66-73. New head coach Vlada Jovanovic's men had a shaky offensive performance, scoring just 41 points in the final three quarters. Only Petar Popovic (13 points) and Aaron White (10) scored in double figures, and Buducnost will be looking at how to better manufacture points as soon as possible.

Slask hosts Buducnost in home opener

U-BT Cluj-Napoca is set to host its first-ever 7DAYS EuroCup game when Cedevita-Olimpija Ljubljana comes to town. The two teams hold 0-1 records, so the better of them on Wednesday will get into the Group A win column.

### Cluj to fix free-throw woes

No Round 1 losing team scored more points that Cluj with 85. Cluj also had 22 assists and saw five different players score in double figures. The team will look to maintain such a productive offensive course against Cedevita but will need to do better from the free throw line. Cluj made just 61.9% of its free throws in last week, one of the details that cost it the game.

### Cedevita needs better shot selection

Cedevita shot more three-pointers (35) than two-point shots (31) last week, so even though it made 10 triples, those came on a sub-par 28.6% accuracy. That's especially true for its backcourt starters Josh Adams and Yogi Ferrell, who each shot 0-for-6, with the rest of the team going 10-for-23. If Ferrell and Adams find their range, or make a better shot selection, it could lead to great things for Cedevita in this game.

It will be a historic occasion on Wednesday when U-BT Cluj-Napoca hosts its first 7DAYS EuroCup home game ever, welcoming Cedevita-Olimpija Ljubljana to Romania. It will also be an opportunity for Cluj center Andrija Stipanovic to against his former club, where he spent three seasons and served as a team captain.

Cluj opened its EuroCup journey with an 88-85 loss at Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse, where its late-game rally fell just short. Stipanovic was one of team's five double-digit scorers in Round 1 with 12 points, as Leonardo Meindl led the way with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Jordan Taylor had 13 points and 6 assists. In front of its faithful fans, Cluj will look to register its first-ever EuroCup win.

But Cedevita, last year's quarterfinalist, will have some say in it. Especially as it tries to make up for a bad start, having lost its season opener at home to Frutti Extra Bursaspor, 73-81, last week. Yogi Ferrell had 12 points and 7 assists, Amar Alibegovic scored 11 points and Edo Muric collected a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cedevita will look for more players to contribute offensively in the second game of the season.

Cluj welcomes Cedevita for EuroCup home debut

High-scoring point guards Kyle Allman of Paris Basket and J’Covan Brown of Hapoel Tel Aviv were the heroes of their respective teams’ Round 1 victories and they will square off in the Round 2 marquee matchup.

Allman is in his second season in Paris and has been off to a fantastic season in both the French League as well as the EuroCup where his 22 points led all scorers in a come-from-behind win at Turk Telekom Ankara last week. He is a fine three-point shooter (4 for 8 in Ankara) with an array of moves to get to the rim. Allman is also a fine passer, which is a disincentive for opposing teams to double-team him.

Brown joined Hapoel last season and quickly became the team leader. He tallied 19 points and 6 assists and did not commit a single turnover in Round 1 against London Lions. Brown plays with more power in his game in getting to the rim, but is also happy to shoot from deep when open. He made 4 of 11 threes against London.

What makes both players even more dangerous is how they settle in as combo guards alongside their backcourt mates. The presence of Tyron Wallace and Amar Gegic gives Allman more to work with and the case is the same for Brown together with Xavier Minford and Bar Timor. In the end, though, all eyes will be on Allman and Brown if this game comes down to the wire. 

Marquee matchup: Paris’s Allman vs. Hapoel’s Brown

At least one of this season’s 7DAYS EuroCup debutants will start the season 2-0 after opening-night winners Paris Basket and Hapoel Tel Aviv meet on Wednesday in the French capital. Paris trailed by as many as 15 in the second quarter at Turk Telekom Ankara before erupting and going on to win by 15. Kyle Allman poured in 22 points and Amar Gegic added 17 in the victory. Hapoel never trailed en route to a 76-59 home win over London Lions. J’Covan Brown keyed the Hapoel attack with 19 points and 6 assists. 

Paris found the energy to rise up in Ankara despite playing with a short rotation; Coach Will Weaver used only eight players and one of them featured for just 6:15. In contrast, eight Hapoel players spent more than 18 minutes on the floor and another two played more than 5. Paris will need more contributions from its second unit to keep up with Hapoel’s depth.

Hapoel had excellent ball movement on display against London and recorded 17 assists and just 6 turnovers. That first number would have been much higher had the club not struggled shooting the ball; Hapoel knocked down 41.0% of its two-pointers and 29.7% of its threes. Those numbers can be expected to rise in Paris. This will be the first time Hapoel plays a game in France since it faced Racing Paris in the Europe League qualifying rounds in 2005.

### A chance to cheer in Bursa

A major 7DAYS EuroCup showdown will take place on Wednesday in Bursa, Turkey, where reigning runner-up [Frutti Extra Bursaspor (1-0) hostst Joventut Badalona (1-0)](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/game-center/2022-23/frutti-extra-bursaspor-joventut-badalona/U2022/15/), the team with the best regular-season record last season. Derek Needham, David Dudzinski, Onuralp Bitim & Co. knocked off many favorites last season and then started this one with a resounding road win in Ljubljana.

What makes this a special occasion for head coach Dusan Alimpijevic and his men is that Tuesday will mark their first EuroCup game at home after playing five consecutive road games. In case it slipped your mind, Bursaspor made its magical playoff run last season by winning three road games, and then played in the EuroCup Finals on the road, too. This season, Bursaspor opened its campaign away from home again, and now finally its fans have a chance to greet their heroes.

### **Long time, no see**

While Cluj will play its first home game, Cedevita Olimpija goes to play its first official basketball game on Romanian soil since 1968, when the team from the Slovenian capital played against Dinamo Bucharest. This will also be the first time ever that Cluj plays against a team from Slovenia.

And although there is no history between the two clubs, one person creates a significant connection between them. Cluj center Andrija Stipanovic spent three seasons with this week's opponent during which he was a heart and soul of this team. His first two seasons, from 2017 to 2019 were with Cedevita Zagreb where he was a team captain before that club merged with Olimpija Ljubljana, and he played another season there, too. He is set to see many familiar faces on the other side this week, in which will surely make for an even more emotional encounter for him.

### **Déjà vu in Venice, Patras**

Among three games this week that are repeat matchups from last season, none produced more drama than Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse's victory in Venice. Bourg won that night 78-81 on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by C.J. Harris, who is no longer with the team, but many of his former teammates are, including Hugo Benitez, Maxime Courby, Axel Julien, Alexandre Chassang and Pierre Pelos, who scored 13 points in that win. Both teams come into this clash following dramatic finishes last week, with Bourg edging Cluj while Umana Reyer Venice lost in Ulm.

John Shurna of Gran Canaria led his team to an 81-85 road victory against Promitheas Patras in Group B on Tuesday, and in so doing earned Regular Season Round 2 MVP honors. Shurna finished the game with 17 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, registering the first double-double of his 79-game EuroCup career.

The contract is for one month. Rebec (1.81 meters, 27 years old) played for Agribertocchi Orzinuovi in the Italian second last season and trained with Cedevita during the preseason. A member of the Slovenian national team that won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2017, Rebec has also played for Helios Domzale, Rogaska, Krka Novo Mesto and Koper Primorska in Slovenia, Enisey Krasnoyarsk in Russia, FMP in Serbia, Gipuzkoa BC San Sebastian in Spain, Cibona Zagreb in Croatia, Rasta Vechta in Germany, Rouen in France, and Ravenna and Chieti in Italy.
