Hapoel Tel Aviv never trailed in routing Dolomiti Energia Trento 93-63 on Wednesday at Shlomo Group Arena to improve to 3-1 and remain tied for the top spot in Group B. The hosts outhustled Trento, scoring 14 fastbreak points to just 1 for Trento and getting 20 points off turnovers while allowing just 7.

Jaylen Hoard started in place of the injured Chris Horton and dominated to the tune of 22 points on near-perfect shooting, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks in just 21 minutes. J.P. Tokoto added 18 points for Hapoel, Xavier Munford scored 13, Jordan McRae 11 and J’Covan Brown dished 8 assists. Diego Flaccadori was Trento’s top scorer with 11 points and Matteo Spagnolo and Drew Crawford added 10 apiece. The loss kept Trento winless through four games this season.

It was a contrast of styles early with Hapoel carving up the Trento defense to get good looks at the rim, while Trento stayed even thanks to a pair of threes and some second-chance points. Six minutes passed before McRae attempted a three for Hapoel’s first outside shot. Brown heated up with 4 points and 2 assists to lead a 13-3 run to close the first quarter with a 28-18 lead. Darion Atkins snapped the Trento drought with a jumper to open the second quarter, but the Hapoel assault continued with Tokoto leading a 14-2 charge to make it 42-20. Trento showed signs of life with a 2-11 spurt capped by a Drew Crawford layup. Hoard settled the halftime score at 48-33.

Hoard scored 10 points in the first 3 minutes of the second half as Hapoel restored a double-digit advantage. Trento had no answers as the difference swelled to 76-41 on Tokoto’s shot in the lane and the margin remained the same, 79-44, at the end of the quarter. Hapoel’s control was never in question in the fourth quarter, which saw the lead peak at 37 as the hosts cruised to victory.

ratiopharm Ulm bounced back from its last overtime defeat at home and pulled out a hard-fought win at Tofas Spor Salonu on Wednesday evening. The visitors built a 16-point margin in the third quarter but saw Bursaspor rally back to tie it at 83-83 entering the last minute. Key free throws by Yago Dos Santos and Thomas Klepeisz ended up securing the win for Ulm, which improved to 2-2. 

Dos Santos led the way for the visiting team with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Klepeisz followed with 15 points and 6 assists and Sagaba Konate and Devin Robinson contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Onuralp Bitim paced the home team with 19 points and 6 assists, David Dudzuinski chipped in 16 points, Zach Auguste neared a double-double with 15 points and 9 boards, and Derek Needham added 12 points for Bursa, which dropped to 2-2.

Shooting 3-of-4 from three, Ulm managed to earn a quick 7-13 lead after 5 minutes. But long-range accuracy was not the only tool the visitors used, as Konate, Karim Jallow and Robinson showed up inside to extend Ulm’s advantage to 13-23. The hosts found Auguste and Yigitcan Saybir to reduce the gap to 17-23 at the end of the first quarter and completed the rally when Bitim got red hot and drilled 3 three-pointers in a row to put Bursaspor on top, 35-34, midway through the second quarter. Ulm stayed calm and used contributions from bench players like Maximilian Langenfeld and Nicolas Bretzel to recover and earn a 41-48 edge at halftime. 

The guests improved their defensive performance after the break, allowing just one field goal in the next 6 minutes, to amass a 45-61 advantage. Clemmons took over with a three-point play and a free throw that turned the lights on for Bursa. Bitim followed him to help the hosts to a 14-4 run that closed the third quarter with everything still undecided, 59-65. The temperature got even hotter when Dudzinski made it 63-67 soon after, but triples by Klepeisz and Langenfeld restored a double-digit margin to Ulm, 68-78, with 5 minutes remaining. Needham came to the rescue with back-to-back triples and later drew an unsportsmanlike foul that made it a one-possession game, 79-81, entering crunch time. Another bomb from Needham tied it up, 83-83, but Dos Santos was cold as ice to provide key free throws and a steal that made it 85-88 with 5 seconds remaining. Bitim had the chance to force overtime from the line, but he missed and allowed Ulm to celebrate a valuable road win.

It was an important factor for our win to control the rebounds, but again, in some moments, we should have done a better job, especially on boxing out. In some crucial offenses, they made second-chance points, but in the end, it was important that we won."

"First, I want to congrat the whole team for the win. It was a good fight tonight. We had our chances but at the end of the day, we were not good enough or consistent enough to take the victory. Our percentage on three-point shots was bad, 29% and on free throws 54%. We fought, got 16 offensive rebounds and tried to play defense but in the end, they scored better than us and won.

"It was a huge fight. Unfortunately, for us, in all three games that we've lost until now, people said that we fought well. We still need to learn to win in this competition. We missed also today Karel Guzman from our main rotation. So that was also a problem for us. At the end of the day, I am happy that we fought. I thought we could win this game, we stayed until the end. They made some important shots and that was the outcome. We don't want to break after just four games. No team is unbeatable for sure, and we will still try to improve. We will still try to be better in each game. 7-bet Lietkabelis Panevezys grabbed its second consecutive home win in Group A by topping U-BT Cluj-Napoca 89-84 at Cido Arena on Wednesday. Jamel Morris and Zeljko Sakic made the difference for the winners down the stretch.

Morris led the way with 24 points as Lietkabelis improved to 2-2 in the standings. Sakic added 16 points, Kristian Kullamae 14, Vytenis Lipkevicius 11 and Paulius Murauskas 10 for Lietkabelis. Leo Meindl scored 22 points for Cluj, which dropped to 1-3. Andrija Stipanovic added 20 points, Jordan Taylor 14 and Patrick Richard 12.

Stipanovic stepped up early for Cluj, but Lipkevicius made back-to-back three for a 19-18 Lietkabelis lead after 10 minutes. Stipanovic kept pacing the visitors and got help from Taylor for a 21-29 Cluj lead. Sakic and Morris led the hosts to a 39-36 lead at halftime.

Morris scored 13 third-quarter points and joined forces with Kullamae to boost Lietkabelis's lead to 64-59 after 30 minutes. Cluj used a 0-7 run that Nandor Kuti capped with a three-pointer to get a 68-69 lead with 7 minutes left. Sakic and Morris each struck from downtown in a 10-0 run that put Lietkabelis ahead for good, 78-69. Taylor, Meindl and Stipanovic got Cluj within 85-82, but Kullamae sealed the outcome from the foul line.

Conditt, Cowan epitomized Promitheas’s tough play

"We just understood that we had to play a little bit harder than them and that’s what we did," shared Promitheas Patras center George Conditt after his team’s 81-77 victory over Veolia Towers Hamburg on Tuesday night. In those few words, Conditt explained how his team managed to outlast Hamburg.

It started from the beginning of the game as a brilliant defensive play by Anthony Cowan took Hamburg off its game plan. Cowan raced around a pick to get in front of Kendale McCullum and steal the ball. The Hamburg playmaker instinctively grabbed Cowan from behind and was whistled for an unsportsmanlike foul.

Coach Raoul Korner replaced McCullum and, just like that, Hamburg was playing with its second-string playmaker. Even though Ziga Samar did a fine job – along with dominating big man Yoeli Childs – in helping Hamburg race to a 5-11 lead and McCullum would have a big impact on the game when he returned later, the visitors were somewhat off-kilter and Promitheas was able to take advantage, gain control and lead by as many as 9 in the second quarter.

Even though Hamburg would come back and create a thrilling finish that featured 10 fourth-quarter lead changes, the damage was done, as Korner later noted: "We didn’t lose the game in the last minute, we lost the game in the first half. We just were not there defensively."

In that statement, Korner was referencing some of the plays in the final minute that decided the game. After Childs split free throws to tie it at 74-74, Zamar fouled Promitheas’s top scorer, Joe Young, who was attempting a three-pointer and the result was 3 made free throws. After a timeout, James Woodard’s inbounds pass was stolen by Michalis Tsairelis, who quickly sent Nemanja Dangubic for a slam.

Up 5 with 33 seconds remaining, Promitheas was able to hold on for the win. Young finished with 23 points and the rookie Conditt posted his first double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and several highlight-reel plays. Cowan only scored 6, but contributed 5 assists and 3 steals. Everyone contributed with nine of the home team’s players who saw action scoring and the only one who didn’t, Tsairelis, made one of the game’s biggest defensive plays.

It wasn’t a thing of beauty, as Promitheas shot poorly (46.5% 2FG, 25% 3FG) and was badly outrebounded 32-49, but the ability to play a little bit harder, as Conditt referenced, helped force 22 Hamburg turnovers and that was the story of the game.

In a game that saw six lead changes in the fourth quarter and was as close as 69-71 entering the last 4 minutes, Turk Telekom Ankara made the most of the little things to beat Slask Wroclaw. Despite a sub-par offensive performance - the visitors didn’t score a single field goal in the last 3 minutes, Turk Telekom managed to leave Centennial Hall with a victory that improved its record to 3-1.

"Today was a great fight on the court from both sides… We did not play quality basketball, to be honest, but we want to improve every single day," Turk Telekom Ankara head coach Erdem Can recognized in the press conference. "This is one part of when you play bad, you still try to win the game and you handle it to be able to win the game. So, from that standpoint, it was a good win for us, but lots of easy mistakes. We need to \[take\] a lot of lessons from this game."

Despite a below-average free-throw shooting night, Turk Telekom managed to hit from the line when it mattered most. Tyrique Jones and Axel Boutielle didn’t miss when they both drew a basket-plus-foul play in the fourth quarter. The last one by the French forward established a 67-69 edge for Turk and Slask would not reclaim the lead for the remainder of the game.

Turk Telekom finished 9 of 13 from the line, which was much better than its opponent. Slask had a terrible free-throw shooting night as it missed 11 of its 17 attempts (35.3%), which clearly prevented it from getting its first win in the 7DAYS EuroCup this season.

Slask Wroclaw head coach Andrej Urlep regretted the mistakes his team made in this game: "It was a tough loss for us. I think we played much better than we did against Buducnost, but still, we are making some mistakes that have been following us all season long. I think that turnovers, bad work under the boards, they cost us the game."

Only a few could deny his words, as Turk Telekom outrebounded Slask 8-12 in the fourth quarter, grabbing 5 offensive boards that were crucial to keeping things under control when the game was on the edge. Securing the boards became a definitive weapon for the visitors, as nobody was able to score a single field goal in crunch time when it was 71-74.

Even though Jerian Grant had the opportunity to close the game from the line with 23 seconds to go, the visitors had to use an offensive rebound by Tyrique Jones to stay calm. It was Jones’s only offensive rebound of the night, but it was at the right place, in the right moment, for Turk Telekom. Another small detail that contributed in a key way.

Turk Telekom made the most of the little things to beat Slask

Kevin Kokila did not score even a single point for Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse, but his presence in the paint was huge in his team remaining undefeated with a 69-71 road win at Germani Brescia. The big heroes for the winning side were naturally its top scorers; Jordan Floyd netted 22 points and Isiaha Mike had 11 points, 9 boards and 2 blocks – the last of which preserved the lead on the final play.

Kokila set a club record with 7 offensive rebounds, which were 2 more than the previous Bourg best, a mark set by Alen Omic in November 2020 and matched by Pierre Pelos in March 2021. The feat is even more impressive when considering that Bourg as a team had only 6 offensive rebounds in Round 1 against U-BT Cluj-Napoca and 7 in Round 2 against Umana Reyer Venice.

Only once did the center shoot the ball after grabbing an offensive rebound, while 2 of his offensive boards led to three-pointers, including one directly from a Kokila assist. His never-ending activity on the offensive glass was a main reason that Brescia only had 2 fastbreak points all game. Kokila finished the game with 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block with a +/- of plus-5 in 23:06 minutes. It was a breakthrough game for the 21-year-old and quietly a big reason for Bourg’s victory.
