Joventut Badalona used superb offensive efficiency to knock off Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana including great three-point shooting.

Joventut shot 63.9% on two-pointers, 54.5% on three-pointers and 94.7% on free throws in a convincing 78-100 win over Cedevita. The Spanish side was on fire from long range, hitting 12-of-22 three-point attempts to help pull away on multiple occasions. Joventut also converted 18-of-19 from the foul line.

Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse improved to 3-0 on Wednesday night with a 86-73 win over visiting 7Bet-Lietkabelis Paneveyzs 86-73. Bourg remained perfect on the season thanks to a big second half, one in which it scored 51 points and outrebounded the visitors 24-15. Bourg was held to 8-for-15 (53.3%) on two-point shooting in the first half and two teams each had 18 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. In the second half, however, Bourg dominated inside.

The hosts made 13 two-point shots on 19 attempts (68.4%) in the last two quarters and pulled down 10 offensive rebounds in the third and fourth quarters combined. Everybody had a part in it, Jordan Floyd more than others with 21 points and 6-for-8 two-point shooting. But Isiaha Mike and Alexandre Chassang fought their way inside combining to shoot 6-for-9, Maxime Courby, Hugo Benitez and Axel Julien drove to the rim to make 7-of-9 attempts. That all helped Broug grab control late in the third quarter, open a double-digit lead and cruise to victory.

David Mutaf added 13 points for the winners, AJ Slaughter had 11 and Vitor Benite 10 for Gran Canaria. Vojtech Hruban scored 18 points for London, which dropped to 1-2 in Group B. Tomislav Zubcic added 16 and Kosta Koufos 11 for the guests. Gran Canaria led 42-32 at halftime, improved its margin to 62-42 at the end of the third quarter and never looked back.

Balcerowski and Vitor Benite fueled an opening 5-0 run. Tomislav Zubcic and Ovie Soko stepped up for London and then Kosta Koufos put the visitors ahead 12-13. Andrew Albicy and Miquel Salvo allowed Gran Canaria to regain a 21-15 edge after 10 minutes. Luke Nelson rescued London and Soko's layup got his team within 28-27. Benite and a red-hot Balcerowski fueled a 12-2 run that gave Gran Canaria its first double-digit lead, 40-29, near halftime. Nico Brussino, Ferran Bassas and Slaughter each hit a triple to break the game open, 53-35, right after the break. The hosts boosted their margin to 62-42 after 30 minutes and then again to 81-57 to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer.

Balcerowski leads Gran Canaria past London

Gerrmani Brescia displayed an astonishing dominance under the boards against ratiopharm Ulm, pulling down 21 offensive rebounds and outrebounding its opponent 35-53 overall. The visitors took advantage to hold on when Ulm escaped 47-34 in the second quarter and came back in the second to force an overtime that they controlled from the beginning to the end.

“I think we presented ourselves the last games always better, but we allowed 21 offensive rebounds, and that gave them so many second chances”, ratiopharm Ulm head coach Anton Gavel acknowledged in the press conference. “Defensively we collapsed a couple of times, we were miscommunicated, and allowed easy buckets for the Brescia team.”

In a game that went to the line, small details were crucial, and the rebounding battle was key to deciding the winner. Brescia converted 21 second-chance points, against Ulm’s 6. Additionally, the visiting team set new records in both offensive and total rebounding with 21 and 53, respectively. The previous records took place against the same team, in the same month, as Brescia finished with 14 offensive boards in an 83-82 loss in Ulm on October 30, 2018, and with 47 rebounds in an 87-84 win in Brescia on October 7, 2020.

Troy Caupain neared a triple-double with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists to lead Brescia. Della Valle followed with 17 points, CJ Massinburg provided 16 and 6 assists, and Mike Cobbins contributed 10 for the winners. Matt Mobley led the way for Ulm with 23 points on 6-of-9 shooting from behind the arc, Yago Dos Santos had 16 points and 6 assists and Robin Christen and Devin Robinson added 13 and 12 points, respectively, in defeat.

It took the hosts just 3 minutes to build a 9-1 edge behind 5 points in a row by Dos Santos. Brescia survived thanks to its offensive rebounding power but could not match Mobley’s accuracy from downtown and trailed 27-23 after 10 minutes. Karim Jallow started the fire with two strong drives, as Dos Santos and Fedor Zugic kept punishing Brescia from long range to help Ulm escape to 47-34. Even though Della Valle tried to bring his team back, the fourth three-pointer of the night from Mobley closed the first half with the home team ahead 52-45.

Brescia adjusted its defense after the break and allowed just 4 points in 6 minutes to tie it up, 56-56, after a three-pointer by Massinburg. The visitors could not complete the rally, as Christen and Sagaba Konate helped Ulm enter the last stanza still ahead, 65-62. Christen hit from downtown to extend it to 68-62, but Brescia had already found its momentum. It came down to the closing seconds. After Mobley's three made it 82-79 with 16 seconds to go, but Thomas Klepeisz failed to finish the job from the line and Kenny Gabriel sent the game to overtime with a dunk.

Brescia stayed in good mood early in the extra period. Della Valle showed up with a fastbreak layup and a three-pointer to boost his team to an 85-92 lead. Ulm looked tired and stunned and was not able to score a field goal for the first 4 minutes of the prolongation. Mobley broke the trend with a triple, but Cobbins answered quickly with a slam that maintained an 88-96 gap with 40 seconds to play, sealing the outcome.

“It was a tough game for us. I think we struggled a lot in the beginning, especially in the first half, allowing a lot of weird situations. They were good at attacking our defense and that’s why we decided to change in the second half and go to a switching defense, and I think that choice paid off. Then we were able to build good shots and even but our percentages didn’t support us, and that’s we were on the chase for most part of the game. We were able anyway to keep fighting, keep believing, and somehow, we arrived at overtime and I think we were really more boosted than them.  I’m sorry if I spend a few seconds more, but I would like to dedicate this game to my mom, who is fighting a very tough fight, much more than basketball so don’t give up mom.”

Henry Ellenson paced Joventut with 15 points while Ante Tomic scored 14 and Kyle Guy added 12 points. Yogi Ferrell scored 20 points and Josh Adams contributed 15 in the losing effort.

The first quarter was tight throughout with 5 points being the biggest lead and Joventut up 26-28 after 10 minutes. The visitors led 26-34 early in the second frame and put together a 0-11 run for a 35-48 cushion, which was 41-50 at the break. Six straight points to start the second half pushed the lead to 15 points and Joventut led by as many as 19 in the third quarter. Cedevita, which trailed 57-73 after 30 minutes, could not get closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
