Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse kept its perfect record intact by downing the visiting 7Bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys 86-73 on Wednesday night. The victory lifted Bourg atop of Group B with a 3-0 record as the only remaining undefeated team in the competition, while Lietkabelis dropped to 1-2.

Jordan Floyd scored all of his 21 points in the second half, and also pulled down 7 rebounds to lead Bourg. Isiaha Mike and Maxime Courby scored 15 points apiece in another winning effort. Jamel Morris had 21 points for Lietkabelis, Zeljko Sakic scored 13, Vytenis Lipkevicius 12 and Benas Griciunas added 10 for the visitors.

Lietkabelis opened an early lead with Griciunas working inside, while Lipkevicius and Morris hit three-pointers. A triple from Kristian Kullamae helped open an 18-24 lead after 10 minutes and the visitors extended the margin to 8 points on a couple of occasions in the second quarter. But Axel Julien, Maxime Courby and Pierre Pelos each sank one triple in the final 4 minutes of the half to tie the game at 35-35 at halftime.

Bourg was the first to grab the lead in the third quarter, but back-to-back threes from Zeljko Sakic and Morris and another from Gyorgy Goloman helped Lietkabelis get back in front 52-56. But Floyd scored 5 points before the end of the third to cut it to 57-58 and then he and Alexandre Chassang opened the fourth with back-to-back three-point plays as the hosts built a 65-58 lead. Morris had a triple and a three-point play to keep the visitors close, but Pelos, Mike and Courby drained three consecutive triples to start an 11-2 run, open a 12-point margin and never look back.

Bourg downs Lietkabelis 86-73 to improve to 3-0

Turk Telekom Ankara handed Hapoel Tel Aviv its first loss of the 7DAYS EuroCup season, 89-77, on Wednesday at Ankara Spor Salonu in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. Axel Bouteille led six Turk Telekom scorers in double figures with 18 points and Jerian Grant notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists.

Tyrique Jones was a force inside for the winners with 13 points, Erkan Yilmaz scored 12 and Ridvan Oncel and Nathan Sestina contributed 11 each. Jordan McRae paced Hapoel with 21 points, Tomer Ginat added 20 and Xavier Munford tallied 16 points and 6 assists in defeat. The result left both teams with 2-1 records in Group B.

Hapoel had 3 steals in the first 3 minutes to jump to a 2-10 start. After an early Turk Telekom timeout, the hosts settled down and behind Yilmaz and Tony Taylor went on an 11-0 run to take the lead. McRae free throws ended the first quarter at 24-21. Turk Telekom extended the margin to double figures early in the second quarter and continued to add to it with the difference reaching 55-40 at halftime. Little changed in the third quarter, despite the best efforts of Ginat, as Turk Telekom continued to pour on the points with the lead reaching 19. The scoreboard showed 73-56 through three quarters. The hosts put the game away by scoring the first 6 points of the fourth quarter and the differenced reached 25 points as Turk Telekom cruised to victory.

Prometey Slobozhanske sent a message that echoed around the competition by defeating previously undefeated Frutti Extra Bursaspor 90-84 in Group A. Its efficiency was key as it cruised to this important victory. 

Prometey shot the ball much better than its opponent inside the arc. Bursaspor made 22 of 41 two-point shots (53.7%) and Prometey was far more efficient, downing 27 of 45 shots inside the arc (60.0%). Bursaspor outrebounded the hosts 33-40. 

Prometey took much better care of the ball, too, finishing the game with 12 steals and only 11 turnovers. DJ Stephens had 3 steals and no turnovers in this game. On the other hand, Bursaspor only had 6 steals and 19 turnovers, in what arguably was the biggest key in this exciting showdown.

Telling numbers: Prometey's efficiency was key

Prometey Slobozhanske remained undefeated at home in Group A by downing Frutti Extra Bursaspor 90-84 at Arena Riga in the Latvian capital on Wednesday. In doing so, Prometey handed head coach Dusan Alimpijevic's team its first loss in the 7DAYS EuroCup since last season's championship game against Virtus Segafredo Bologna. Both teams now have 2-1 records in Group A.

Gian Clavell led the winners with 26 points. Issuf Sanon added 17, DJ Kennedy had 15 and Caleb Agada 10 for Prometey. Derek Needham paced Bursaspor with 16 points, Anthony Clemmons and Onuralp Bitim each added 14, Ahmet Duverioglu had 13 while David Dudzinski and Yigitcan Saybir scored 12 apiece for the guests.

Duverioglu had 5 quick points and got help from Needham and Clemmons to give Bursaspor an early 5-13 lead. Clavell struck three times from downtown, which prompted the visitors to call timeout at 17-17. Then Agada put Prometey in charge, 23-21, after 10 minutes. Sanon stepped up for the hosts, Stephens shocked the crowd with a wild alley-oop slam and DJ Kennedy boosted Prometey's lead to 37-33. Needham and Saybir got Bursaspor within 42-39 at halftime. Sanon kept pushing Prometey and Dustin Hogue's put-back layup made it a double-digit game, 54-43. Bitim and Dudzinski gave Bursaspor hope at 68-62 after 30 minutes. Prometey found a go-to guy in Clavell to restore a 77-68 margin with 6 minutes left. The hosts kept powering the offensive glass and Clavell sealed the outcome, 85-71, in the next-to-last minute.

"We played against a very good team, with a lot of experience and a good coach. We brought the effort to the game and I am happy that the players made that effort. We made mistakes, of course. We started the game not so good but managed to come back so I can be satisfied, for sure. We need to correct a lot of problems but a win is a win and against this kind of team, it is a good win. Sometimes we didn't use our big men a lot so we couldn't play our inside game. For sure, our strength is the up-tempo game but I think today we played a lot of isolates today, looking for the weakest spots in the other team. Their players with fouls, we tried to go on them and take them. So I think today, our offense was not just fastbreak game. It was a little bit more. I started to learn the team, everything is new and I think that \[Clavell\] played 18 minutes in the first half. I thought that if I keep him in for another 10 minutes in the third quarter, we would be losing today at the end of the game. It was good in the end because he came back and played good in the end."

"Congratulations to Prometey and their coach on this win, really well-deserved. It was a great game from their side and it was a terrible game from our side, simple as that. We couldn't manage their energy and weren't actually on any decent level of energy. We let them \[get\] 18 offensive rebounds, we had 19 turnovers and that much of bad one-on-one defense, with them finishing on layups. one-on-zero, players from the top of the key... I mean, these things speak for themselves enough. To be honest, it was very obvious that we played a very long \[time\] with seven players in rotation. What we had in the past, this is normal, to be honest, because playing like we played so far with seven players, it is something really special. But when you have in these seven players you have foul problems with Derek Needham, Anthony Clemmons, and two intentional \[unsportsmanlike\] fouls on Duverioglu, who made our short rotation even shorter, than you have a problem to manage this game, to coach this game. It becomes more mathematical than anything else. So for sure, it was a big problem for us when a couple of our main players had these foul problems."

"We needed this win. We lost by 30 against Brescia so we needed to be aggresive. I am glad that we got the win. It was important for us to get to a good start after the last game. We just wanted to play defense and rebound the ball, which I think we did. We could have done better, but I am glad with the win."

"It was a really tough game for us because we tried to bounce back after the last game. It wasn't good for us, because last game we didn't play as a team and lost. So I think today we showed how we really can play. We were aggressive and did everything coach asked us to do, and we played as a team. So I really appreciate this moment and for sure, we will keep working on our team chemistry and keep going up. Our team is becoming better and better in each game."

 

### Prometey Slobozhanske forward DJ Stephens:

"It was a tough game. We knew coming into the game that it was going to be a tough game for us. But after the game that we played last week, in which we played terrible in Italy, we wanted to come out and play tough on defense, which is our identity. We are a defensive-minded type of team, so we just wanted to come out tonight focused on that, get out in transition, get some easy ones... that is part of our game, too. And then just try to come away with a win. They fought until the end, they are a tough team but we were able to get the win in the end."

Prometey's Ginzburg: 'This is a character win'

Paris Basketball recorded its second win of the 7DAYS EuroCup season on Tuesday by defeating Dolomiti Energia Trento at BLM Group Arena, and it was a victory that had the fingerprints of Kyle Allman and Ismael Kamagate all over it.

Allman was a constant threat on the night for Paris, finishing with 23 points and dishing out 5 assists, 3 of which were Magic Moment plays for Kamagate. The 25-year-old American got to the free-throw line 14 times during the game, seeing 10 fall, as he caused headache after headache for Trento on the defensive end.

Kamagate, meanwhile, had 14 points on 7-of-9 two-pointers, which includes some highlight-play dunks off of passes from Allman. He also grabbed 10 rebounds, completing a double-double in the process, and blocked 3 shots. At just 21, the hype surrounding Kamagate is certainly justified based off his first few games in the EuroCup.

Perhaps one of the things that will make Paris head coach Will Weaver most happy is the way in which two of his stars, Allman and Kamagate, connect with one another on the court. They seem to be on the same wavelength at almost all times, with Allman's playmaking and speed often creating easy opportunities for Kamagate.

 

"To come in here against a really good team that I know was desperate to get a win tonight and compete the way we did makes me really proud," said Weaver, who acknowledged that Paris was without two regular starters in Tyrone Wallace and Aamir Simms against Trento.

Yet, in their absence, the duo of Allman and Kamagate came to the fore. Paris is in its first year in the EuroCup, but it already has two wins to its name and is no doubt already setting its sights on securing a playoff spot.

 

With Allman averaging 20.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists through the first three games, and Kamagate contributing averages of 11.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.3 blocks, this dynamic duo is ready to make even more noise in this year's EuroCup.

Hamburg coach Korner happy with team resilience, still looking for leadership

Veolia Hamburg Towers head coach Raoul Korner could not find the answers for a nightmare third quarter against Slask Wroclaw, but in the end he was pleased with the way in which his team showed the resilience to grab the victory.

A 31-14 second quarter and an 19-point halftime lead for Hamburg was followed by an 11-28 third quarter for Slask before Hamburg eventually prevailed 87-83.

Slask scored the first 17 points of the third quarter, with Korner attempting to stop the bleeding with two timeouts. Hamburg eventually turned the corner by making a couple of big plays, but the coach still has work to do as he tries to add more consistency to the team.

"That is the moment when you are looking for a little veteran leadership that you can call upon," Korner said. "\[Playing Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann\] was not possible because he was in foul trouble right away. But Seth \[Hinrichs\] was an important anchor for us."

Veolia Hamburg Towers wasted a big lead but managed to fend off Slask Wroclaw to collect its first home win of the season in the 2022-23 7DAYS EuroCup.

"We still have to find out which players in the team remain calm and make the right plays. You could see how important \[James\] Woodard is for us in those types of moments; he doesn’t get rushed. Does he make mistakes? Yes, but he gives us a certain calmness and easiness."

Korner said that 21-year-old guard Ziga Samar is a player who can grow into that leadership role, while Kendale McCullum should not be expected to carry the whole load himself.

All in all, Korner is happy with the level of resilience that Hamburg showed against Slask.

“We are not a team that just sticks our head in the sand. We were like that in the pre-season. When we gave up a run like that in pre-season, we basically went home emotionally," he commented. "That wasn’t the case this time. We knew that we were dissatisfied with how it happened, but we didn’t panic. We were helpless but not panic-stricken,” the coach said.
