Julie Trice, as the rest of her family, is very happy. The major reason for that is the fact that her sons, Travis and D'Mitrik Trice, are playing together in the 7DAYS EuroCup for the same team, Slask Wroclaw.

Trice family dream coming true at Slask

Travis Trice – four years older than D'Mitrik – joined the Polish club on October 18, 2021, right before the start of the EuroCup Regular Season. It is the point guard's second stint in the competition, after having played with Leonessa Basket Brescia for three games in the 2019-20 season. His younger brother started his professional career this season in the French League with Fos-Provence in his first season out of university.

Slask started looking for some point guard depth behind Travis, who ranks 15th in the EuroCup in scoring (14.5 ppg.) and fourth in assists (6.7 apg.). Trice felt comfortable enough at a meeting with head coach Andrej Urlep to offer his own option.

"As we were talking, he told me what they were looking for and my brother checked all the boxes. So I told him to take a look at my brother, and he said he would. Coach liked him and we signed him a few days later," Travis said, referring back to February 9, when D'Mitrik was signed by Slask.

"I was super happy. It really didn't hit me until I picked him up from the airport that we were going to get to be on the same team," Travis said.

D'Mitrik was thrilled to hear the news.

"It's always been a dream of mine to actually be on the same team as my brother and now that it's actually happening in my first year out of college is a dream come true. I love every moment of it," said D'Mitrik, who had been averaging 5.2 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 18 minutes per game in the French League.

And Travis had been paying attention, too – even was back in the United States working ou, before he signed with Slask.

"When I was back home and he was playing \[in France\], I would have to try to sync up my workout, schedule-wise, so I could watch him play in the middle of the day," Travis said in an interview earlier in the season. "But it works out perfect now... I'm definitely locked in on every game."

So is the brothers' family in the United States – after having had to watch and follow two teams before D'Mitrik's arrival in Slask.

"I was super happy. It really didn't hit me until I picked him up from the airport that we were going to get to be on the same team."

"My mom is ecstatic. But my entire family is happy because now they can watch both of us at the same time rather than trying to watch two separate games at once," Travis said.

And D'Mitrik said: "Our mom always joked and talked about us trying to play on the same team together and we always jokingly said, yeah, we will try. But we knew how small of a chance that would be. Now that it's happened it's a crazy feeling. I know my entire family is loving it."

D'Mitrik says maybe there was a higher power at play, too.

"When Trav first called me and said it's a high possibility, my mom and family immediately starting praying that if this was meant to be then it would happen. The next day I was packing my bags to fly out to Poland. She spoke things into existence for sure," he said.

Once again, mother knew best.

Things did not look good for Turk Telekom's frontcourt before its game against Lietkabelis Panezevys. However, Samet Geyik did not see a problem, but a big opportunity. 

Geyik rose to the challenge for Turk Telekom 

Turk Telekom showed up in Panevezys without its two starting big men, JaJuan Johnson and Octavius Ellis. Nevertheless, it decided to run its offense through Geyik, who was averaging 5.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and a PIR of 4.8, and he made the most out of the opportunity. 

Geyik finished the first half with 22 points on 6-of-6 two-point shooting and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line plus 4 rebounds and 7 fouls drawn for a PIR of 29. He was on track to challenge the EuroCup's all-time PIR record of 55, shared by Priest Lauderdale and Loukas Mavrokefalidis. Geyik helped Turk Telekom to a 37-40 lead at halftime by scoring more than half of his team's points up to that moment.

Geyik kept going, finishing the game with 32 points. His previous career-high in scoring was 12 points in Round 10 against Boulogne Metropolitans 92. He made 8 of 12 two-pointers, 2 of 3 triples and 10 of 13 free throws, adding 6 rebounds and 8 fouls drawn for a PIR of 35. 

"Geyik is a very good player against the defense Lietkabelis was playing and he did a very good job today in a very long game for him because he was on the court more than 30 minutes," Turk Telekom head coach Henrik Rodl said after the game. "He stayed with it and everybody did, it is a great win for us."

Lietkabelis Panevezys v Turk Telekom Ankara (2022-03-30T16:00:00.000Z)

Samet Gayik led all scorers with 32 points in his team's 75-77 road win against Lietkabelis Panevezys. Errick McCollum of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar remains as the competition's scoring leader with 22.3 points per game. Zoran Nikolic of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica and Kevarrius Hayes of Frutti Extra Bursaspor each pulled down 11 rebounds in Round 17. Kerem Kanter of Slask Wroclaw leads the EuroCup in this category with 8.7 per game. 

Andrew Andrews of Bursaspor was the only Round 17 player to register double digits in assists when he dished 10 against Ulm. Milos Teodosic of Virtus ranks first in assists for the season with 9.3 per game. Dylan Ennis of Gran Canaria collected 4 steals in his team's road loss against Virtus. His teammate Andrew Albicy is the EuroCup leader with 1.83 steals per game. 

Hayes had 6 blocks against Ulm, more than any player in a EuroCup game this season. Octavius Ellis of Turk Telekom leads the blocked shots charts with 1.5 per night. Andrews, Hayes, Simon Birgander of Joventut Badalona, Zoran Dragic of Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana and Mike Tobey of Valencia Basket each registered a double-double in Round 17. 

Let’s take a look at the players who compiled the best numbers in the main statistical categories in Round 17, as well as the season leaders.

Individual highs: Samet Geyik of Turk Telekom Ankara, 32 points

An excellent individual performance in a pivotal road win led Frutti Extra Bursaspor center Kevarrius Hayes to become the Round 17 MVP. 

Regular Season Round 17 MVP: Kevarrius Hayes, Frutti Extra Bursaspor 

Hayes led Bursaspor to a 72-86 road victory against ratiopharm Ulm, which qualified it for the EuroCup Playoffs. He amassed a PIR of 37, which was the most of all Round 17 players. Hayes finished the game with 25 points and 11 boards for his third double-double of the season. He made 9 of 12 two-pointers and 7 of 10 free throws. Hayes’s 6 blocks were a club record and the most of any player this season. He also had an assist, 1 steal and 5 fouls drawn, becoming the first Bursaspor player to ever claim MVP of the Round honors.

Samet Geyik of Turk Telekom Ankara was second in the MVP of the Round race with a PIR of 35 in his team's 75-77 road victory at Lietkabelis Panevezys. Geyik had a career-high 32 points, hitting 8 of 12 two-pointers, 2 of 3 triples and 10 of 13 free throws, plus 6 rebounds and 8 fouls drawn. 

Simon Birgander of Joventut Badalona had a PIR of 27 in leading his team to a 97-79 home win over Turk Telekom Ankara. Birgander only needed 15 minutes and 45 seconds to get 16 points on 7 of 7 two-point shooting plus 10 rebounds. Dimitris Agravanis of Promitheas Patras, who had a PIR of 26, Lahaou Konate of Boulogne Metropolitans 92 (25) and Maik Kostar of Hamburg Towers (25) rounded out the list of Round 17’s top performers.

Even though Mincidelice JL Bourg had no chances to qualify for the 7DAYS Eurocup eighthfinals, it didn’t give up and claimed a tough win in Podgorica against Budcnost.

Bourg showed pride despite elimination

Frutti Extra Bursaspor's victory in Ulm on Tuesday closed the doors on qualification for Bourg. Despite the bad news, the visitors grabbed a hard-fought 73-75 win that put its opponent in a very difficult situation, as the Montenegrin champs were in the battle to secure home-court advantage in the next stage. 

A 3-25 run when Bourg trailed 52-41 in the last quarter shifted the momentum, as cold-blooded Hugo Benitez confirmed the upset by scoring his 2 only points of the game from the line entering the last minute. 

“Even though we were minus 11 in the second half, we stayed focused on the game, we found solutions,” said Bourg's Coach Laurent Legname right after the game. “We know it’s really tough to win here, but my players made a great effort, with a good attitude. They sacrificed for the team... It’s a good win for us, maybe it’s too late, but it was a good one for us.”

Round 17 was a hard one for Promitheas Patras as it suffered an 81-57 road loss at Umana Reyer Venice. Its young talents, however, made the most out of it. 

Promitheas's young players stepped up

Promitheas was already out of the playoff race before the game. And Kendrick Ray joined Isaiah Miles and Charis Giannopoulos on the team's injury list. Jerai Grant and Nikolaos Rogkavopoulos were registered for this game but didn't play. Dario Hunt was hurt early in the third quarter and did not return. 

In that moment, Reyer led 64-29 and head coach Ilias Zouros opted to give more playing time to his young players. Georgios Tanoulis, 19, became his team's only big man and remained on the floor until the end of the game. He finished the game with 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Promitheas s kids are alright

Three Promitheas players scored their first-ever points in the 7DAYS EuroCup. Athanasios Basinas, 18, tallied 6 points and 5 assists. Tunde Fasasi, who will turn 18 in June, had 2 points. Angelos Lasios, a surprise starter at age 18, scored 1 point and pulled down 7 rebounds. Nikolaos Vasileous, born in 2005, also scored a couple of points. When the dust settled, Promitheas had outscored Reyer 17-29 in the remainder of the game.

"I am very happy for our young generation, for our program, because these kids, they try really hard," Promitheas head coach Ilias Zouros said after the game. "They had minutes and did a very good job."

Jaylon Brown showed once again that he can carry a team to a victory in helping Hamburg Towers to a 90-69 win over Dolomiti Energia Trento.

Brown shined in return for Hamburg

After he missed Hamburg’s win over Slask Wroclaw, Brown shined in his return, He drained 5 three-pointers in scoring a team-high 22 points to go with 3 assists and 1 steal as Hamburg won back-to-back games for the first time in 2022 and its third game in the last four.

The 27-year-old Brown dropped 32 points with 7 three-pointers along with 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals against MoraBanc Andorra in Round 12. And he had 14 points against Boulogne Metropolitans 92 in Round 14 before missing the last game.

Brown is a major part of Hamburg’s offense, especially his three-point shooting. He has attempted 7.5 triples per game - fourth in the EuroCup - and has made 2.9 of them, which is the third most. Brown is converting from deep at a strong 39.0% clip.

All in all, Brown showed once again why his scoring is so important to Hamburg and its chances of winning.
