Omic scored 12 points without missing a shot, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished a career-high 7 assists. His previous career-high was 5 in January 2020 against another team from the same Turkish city, Tofas Bursa. Omic added 1 steal in posting a performance index rating of 20. That took his career PIR to 1,498 and in doing so he moved past Sammy Mejia (1,488) and into fourth place on the all-time list. Stefan Markovic is third with 1,512.  Omic is already the all-time EuroCup leader in two-pointers made with 435 and second in offensive rebounds with 239 and total rebounds with 663.

The Slovenian champs did not miss a shot in the first 9 minutes of the game and finished the first quarter having made all 10 of their two-pointers, 2 of 3 shots from behind the arc and all 7 attempts from the foul line. Of course, Cedevita could not maintain that pace. Nevertheless, by the time the final buzzer sounded, the numbers were still quite impressive: 30 for 38 on twos (78.9%), 9 for 19 on threes (47.4%) and 16 for 18 on free throws (88.9%). Those numbers were a club record for two-point accuracy and the seventh-best in club history for threes.

When the field goals are combined, the 39-for-57 shooting was the seventh-best by any club in EuroCup history at 68.4%. Valencia Basket holds the record with 74.5% shooting against Turk Telekom Ankara in a November 2018 game. It made 35 of 47 shots in that game.

 

Cedevita’s best shooter on the night was Alen Omic, who made all 6 of his shots. Melvin Ejim only missed once and Jaka Blazic, Edo Muric, Yogi Ferrell and Zach Auguste each missed 2 shots.

Despite leading 29-24 at the end of the first quarter, Boulogne Metropolitans 92 was unable to take charge of the game it played against short-handed Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar. Led by Darius Thomas, who had 15 of his 23 points in the first half, and Errick McCollum who finished with 17, the visitors built a slim advantage that lasted until the first minutes of the last quarter, 72-76. It was then that Hornsby and Cummings showed up and took turns to fuel their team to a valuable win. 

Hornsby opened fire with 10 points in 3 minutes, which included a couple of threes and a long jumper, to make it all square, 82-82, with 6 minutes remaining. Once Lokomotiv managed to stop him, it was time for Cummings, who stepped onto the floor to tie it again, 84-84, and later at 90-90 entering the last minute. A key three-pointer with just 17 seconds remaining put Metropolitans in charge for good as Thompson’s miss from deep on the next possession ended up in Cummings’s hands and turned into a couple of free throws that secured the win for the home team.

Keith Hornsby and Will Cummings became the go-to-guys that helped Boulogne Metropolitans 92 get past visiting Lokomotiv Kuban, combining for 22 points in the last 10 minutes.

Boulogne Metropolitans 92 displayed superb shooting when the game went to the line against Lokomotiv. It finished the first three quarters with a not-so-bad 5-of-13 (38%) from behind the arc, but that percentage dramatically improved when the hosts drilled 4 three-pointers in just 5 attempts in the fourth quarter. 

Three of them came from the hands of Keith Hornsby, who ended shooting 4-of-6 in the game. The other one was provided by Will Cummings, who was 3-of-6 in the end from deep. On the other end, Lokomotiv was unable to score from long range in the last 13 minutes of the game, which made their good two-point shooting performance for naught.

Despite an excellent 32-of-47 on two-point shooting, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar could not make up for Metropolitans' three-point accuracy in the fourth quarter.

The visitors entered the game as the best three-point shooting team in the competition, leading the EuroCup in triple made (10.3 per game) and the only one shooting better than 40% from beyond the arc. Promitheas, on the other hand, entered the game as one of only three teams making less than 30% of its shots from long range. On this night, the two sides performed opposite of what they have done so far this season.

Promitheas shot 12-for-24 (50%) from long distance. It is only the second time this season Promitheas had made 10 or more triples. It is also only the second time this season Promitheas made 50% or better of their three-point shots. Trevis Simpson shined, making 5 of 6 threes. On the other hand, Bourg was only 4-for-16 (25%) behind the arc. That is tied for the fewest three-point shots Bourg made in a game this season, and the second-worst three-point percentage.

Promitheas dished 27 assists, tied for the most in a game this season and third for third-most in club history. Nikolaos Gkikas came off the bench and shined with 10 assists in 23 minutes, but five other players had multiple assists including in-season addition Mihajlo Andric.

Interestingly, Andric and Gkikas combined for 13 assists. The two gave Promitheas’s offense a significant boost and played extended minutes, despite each going scoreless.

Promitheas Patras held off Mincidelice JL Bourg en Bresse 84-77 in their Round 12 contest and one of the keys to its victory was its ball movement.

Reyer came into the game having averaged 74.9 points per game - the fourth-fewest in the league. But Daye poured in a season-high 21 points as the team scored a season-high 89 points. The previous high was 84 in a loss at Virtus Segafredo Bologna.

Daye scored his 21 points in just 19 minutes of action and he tallied 17 of those in the final 13 minutes of the game. The 33-year-old was a welcome sight for Reyer fans as he had only played one of the previous four games.

Umana Reyer Venice has not been known for its offense this season, but Austin Daye shined in an 89-79 victory over ratiopharm Ulm on Wednesday.

Gavel was called into duty as both head coach Jaka Lakovic and assistant coach Tyron McCoy were unable to make the trip to Italy. Gavel, who played six seasons in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for Brose Bamberg and FC Bayern Munich, is the head coach of Ulm’s Orange Academy. He made his head coaching debut for Ulm in the game.

Lakovic has already missed multiple games due to COVID-19 restrictions this season with McCoy filling in for him. But neither of the coaches were available and that meant it was time for Gavel to call the shots for the first time.

Trento came into the game with one of the worst offenses in the EuroCup, ranking 18th in points scored (73.4), last in assists (13.9) and three-point percentage (28.8%) and 19th in two-point shooting (46.2%). And the Italian side was poor even compared to its own averages with just 57 points, 10 assists, 35.4% shooting on two-pointers and 31.6% on threes.

And the defense was needed as Lietkabelis did not shoot well on two-pointers (39.3%), though the home team was solid from long range (40.7%). The biggest difference came at the foul line as Lietkabelis made 19 of 24 free throws compared to 5 of 9 for Trento.

Lietkabelis Panevezys fought through playing with just eight players with a tough defense that shut down Dolomiti Energia Trento’s offense and won 74-57.
