In just his second BKT EuroCup game, Shavar Reynolds gave the Lions a key boost down the stretch to defeat Besiktas Istanbul 98-96 after overtime in Round 11 of the 2025-26 season

Reynolds's positivity lifts London to critical win over Besiktas

Basketball fans in the British capital were treated to one of the best games in the BKT EuroCup this season on Wednesday as the London Lions needed overtime to edge Besiktas GAIN Istanbul 98-96. 

Besiktas entered the game on a four-game winning streak and was ahead most of way but the Lions found ways to return to the game and eventually win it.

Added to the fact that he hit the go-ahead free throws with 1.8 seconds left, [Shavar Reynolds](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/shavar-reynolds-jr/014097/) played a critical role throughout the game, having an impact that went beyond the numbers. He encouraged teammates, got the fans involved with his gestures and body language, even discussed controversial plays with the referees and showed the positivity and character required to lead a team at this level. All this in just his second EuroCup game. 

After four years with Seton Hall University alongside Myles Cale of FC Barcelona (and one with current Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem star [Khadeem Carrington](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/khadeen-carrington/008912/)) and an extra one at Monmouth University, Reynolds played for Zeeuw and Zeeuw Feyenoord of the Netherlands, Keravnos Strovotou of Cyprus and PAOK Thessaloniki of Greece before joining London in July. He scored 4 points in the Lions' EuroCup opener against Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, but then missed nine games through injury and did not return until this week.

Reynolds returned on Sunday in the British League and made the difference already against Besiktas, finishing the game with a game-high 20 points on 10-of-10 free-throw shooting with 8 fouls drawn for a PIR of 21. He had 8 points in the final 4minutes and made 4 of those foul shots in the final 19 seconds to ensure that the Lions won in overtime.

Three-point defense was critical down the stretch, too. After making 9 of 19 three-pointers (47.4% 3FG) in the opening three quarters, Besiktas shot 1 of 4 (25% 3FG) the rest of the way. That resulted in the visitors being held to just 11 fourth-quarter points as London forced overtime and gave Reynolds the chance to make the difference in the final minutes.

After the game, Reynolds continued showcasing his positivity in a hilarious and exciting post-game interview.

"Shout out to my family, my mother and father, my sisters, I love you guys! Honestly, I put the work in. I am dedicated at work and trust my work. I put a lot of work on in the summer and during the injury, I had to put a lot of work in. That's all it comes down to!" Reynolds said. "This is huge. I think Besiktas is 11-0 in the Turkish League and 8-2 before this. They only lost twice in almost three months, that's a great team. Great composure, great vets. They made us earn it! So shout out of them."

Reynolds used this opportunity against one of the best teams in the competition to show London fans what he is capable of. London is 5-6 in Group B and deep in the fight for a ticket to the playoffs. Its last game of 2025 will be against Dolomiti Energia Trento on the road on December 30, with a chance for a regular-season sweep of that team and get a significant tie-break advantage against an opponent in the playoff race.

Lively crowd plays sixth man for impressive Aris to outlast Hamburg

“Just our resilience,” said American guard Bryce Jones, when asked what made the difference for his Aris Thessaloniki Betsson team, which narrowly defeated winless Veolia Towers Hamburg, 89-92, on Wednesday night.

Jones and his teammates picked up an early lead, but Hamburg continuously fought back into the game, every time Aris earned a sizeable advantage. Hamburg found itself a point ahead at the start of the final period, before both teams went back and forth down the stretch. The visitors even tied the contest with 11 seconds remaining, but it wasn’t to be. Key free throws from Elijah Mitrou-Long pulled Aris over the line.

Aris scored as a unit throughout, with Jones’s 20 points and 8 assists leading the way. Danilo Andjusic recorded 18 points, Amine Noua posted 14 points and 10 rebounds, andArnoldas Kulboka netted 15 points.

According to Jones, the raucous Aris crowd played a major part in the victory.

“Honestly, it doesn’t feel like we’re away,” said Jones. “It felt like a home game. Big shout out to our fans for supporting us. It’s been rocky throughout the year, but they’re still here, still supporting us, still travelling. I think we’ve got the best fans in the world, honestly.”

Igor Milicic shared a similar sentiment, taking time to praise the constantly-chanting and occasionally mosh-pitting Aris faithful. The Croatian-Polish coach revealed some frustration with his team’s pre-game travel experience.

“I know it’s a little bit unusual for Germany to see this, but we are very proud,” said Milici. “They were our sixth player today. You could see that the bus driver driving us all around Hamburg, just not to the gym, took a lot of energy from us, but the crowd gave us a boost in our legs.”

Devon Daniels scored a game-high 25 points for Hamburg in defeat. The result spells further frustration for his side, which remains winless in the EuroCup for the season. Despite picking up their first domestic victory at the weekend, they couldn’t get it done.

Much like in their last match-up, Benka Barloschky’s team showed positive signs against Aris. Hamburg put together multiple spirited runs to shrink deficits, even taking numerous leads down the stretch. The hosts seem closer than ever to that cherished first win and their coach remained positive.

“We put ourselves in a position to win the game, there isn’t much else I can ask for,” said Barloschky. Now with both of their meetings out of the way, his counterpart sportingly wished the Hamburg coach well.

“I can only wish that they get some wins, before the end of the EuroCup,” Milicic said.

The result means that Aris has won four of their last five games, moving them to 6-5 in their EuroCup campaign and strengthening their hopes of postseason action. They will face Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana after the break.

Despite the gutsy battle, Hamburg slid to 0-11. The Germans will have another bite of the apple when they compete against Bahcesehir College Istanbul on December 30.

BAXI Manresa claimed a 96-90 road win over Slask Wroclaw on Wednesday night to improve to 6-5 in Group A. The Spanish side pulled away with a composed second-half surge, led by Agustin Ubal, the steady force in control of the game.

‘‘We did what the coach told us in the locker room, so we won,’’ said the 22-year-old guard after a career-high performance. ‘‘They started really good, but we changed the game, we changed the pace. We took the road win.’’

Ubal finished the night with 21 points and 5 rebounds, providing the offensive spark for Manresa. He stepped up in the absence of Manresa’s star guard Hugo Benitez and was key in keeping the team alive during early struggles in the first half, while driving the comeback in the second half.

The third quarter proved decisive for the Spanish side. Trailing in the first half and having trouble matching Slask’s offensive rhythm, Manresa returned from the locker room with more aggression, outscoring the hosts 10-21 to seize the momentum.

‘‘In the third quarter everything changed,’’ said Manresa coach Diego Ocampo after the game. ‘‘We started defending much better the one-on-one on the perimeter… We controlled the rebounds and then we could run fast breaks and score easy baskets. We didn’t have control of the game until the last 30 seconds, because Wroclaw kept playing very hard, they played different kinds of defense... But we were able to move the ball and look for solutions.’’

In a back-and-forth fourth quarter, Eli Brooks stepped up, helping the visitors close out the game. Making his EuroCup debut with Manresa, the American guard showed up when it mattered, finishing with 19 points and 6 assists and playing a key role in the team’s comeback.

Every player who saw minutes for Manresa contributed on the scoreboard, with Pierre Oriola adding 14 points and 8 rebounds, and Retin Obasohan chipping in 12 points. The key factor in the team’s victory was its control of the boards, grabbing a total of 45 rebounds, including 17 offensive boards, creating second-chance opportunities and dominating the paint.

Jordan Parks had extra motivation in Umana Reyer Venice’s home game against Bahcesehir College Istanbul. His two children were at the game and Parks put on a real show for them and the Reyer fans in a superb comeback victory.

Parks poured in 26 of his career-high 30 points in the final 20 minutes as Reyer beat Bahcesehir 94-85. Reyer improved to 5-6 and 6-1 at home, thanks to scoring 32 points in the third quarter and 33 in the final frame after managing only 29 total first-half points.

“We really had a great second half,” Reyer head coach Neven Spahija said. “I always say working hard gets you a result. I saw the team practiced really well (after its last Italian League game), and that first half didn’t match it. I encouraged them at halftime and said: ‘Guys we are way better than that.’ Everything else you saw in the performance of the second half.”

Bahcesehir built a 15-point lead in the second quarter and led 29-42 at the break.

Sparked by 6 points from Parks, Reyer opened the second half with a 15-3 run to pull within 44-45. The home side went ahead 53-51 and was leading 61-58 after three quarters. Bahcesehir stayed close and was down only 77-74 in the fourth quarter when things fell apart for the Turkish side.

Reyer put the game to bed with a 15-3 run with Parks scoring 7 points, including the three-pointer to make it 92-77.

Parks finished the game with 30 points and 8 rebounds for an index rating of 34 - blowing past his previous best marks of 20 points and 22 PIR.

“It’s nice to have a really good game. We came out in the second half and corrected everything that we wanted to do. I had a lot of energy because my kids are here today and they motivate me,” said Parks, who was holding his two kids during the post-game interview.

“We need to take everything we’ve been doing in practice and apply it to the game. Everything we have learned in these losses, we have to apply them and not make the same mistakes again.”

Ky Bowman added 14 points and Amedeo Tessitori chipped in 12 points in the win.

Bahcesehir had hoped it stopped its struggles last week when it beat U-BT Cluj-Napoca. But Marko Barac’s team has now lost four of the last six games for a 7-4 record.

“Generally, in the first half, we played how we wanted to play. We controlled their fast break, their pace and we limited them to 29 points. Everything went according to plan,” Barac said. “What happened in the third quarter, we had a couple of opportunities to score and we didn’t even shoot and from that moment, our confidence fell. We lost control of the game and allowed Venice to do everything they like to do.”

One of the few bright spots for Bahcesehir was Malachi Flynn, who hit 12 of 19 shots in pouring in a career-high 31 points. The team only dished out 12 assists while turning it over 18 times - 6.5 more than the team’s 11.5 turnover average, which was the second lowest in the league.

What a night for Mitch Creek and U-BT Cluj-Napoca as the Australian forward became just the seventh player to score 40 points in a BKT EuroCup game and Cluj set several club records en route to a crucial home victory.

Cluj set club records for the most points in a first quarter (38 points), a half (68), after three quarters (92) and in a 40-minute game with its 118-97 win over Neptunas Klaipeda. Cluj just missed its all-time single-game mark, which was 120 points in an overtime game in 2023-24. The game was also massively important in the Group A dynamics, where both teams came into the contest with 5-5 records.

“I really enjoyed being the coach of this team in this game. We had a great game. Everything started with our mindset on defense. We made a statement from the beginning,” said Cluj head coach Mihai Silvasan, whose team raced ahead 34-9 and led 38-18 after 10 minutes.

“I am really proud of how we played today. We need to take it as an example from the intensity point of view. Of course, we won’t be able to score 118 points each game, but the intensity on defense needs to be there. It was a great night for us. We will enjoy it.”

Cluj led by 30 points just before halftime and Neptunas tried its best to make things interesting. The visitors fought back and trimmed the gap to 10 points with 8 minutes to go, but Creek answered with some of the big plays he was making all night.

Cluj improved to 6-5 as it has alternated between wins and losses in the last seven games. Creek made a spectacular 14 of 15 field goals - including 4 of 4 from long range - and 8 of 10 free throws to finish with 40 points. He also chipped in 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 7 fouls drawn for a performance index rating of 43.

“They go in sometimes. They don’t go in sometimes. It’s basketball. I trust myself to make plays at a high level,” said Creek, who eclipsed his previous best marks of 27 points and 35 PIR.

“Some nights you have the feeling that just everything is going in. It doesn’t matter if it’s a silly and-one you shouldn’t make. It doesn’t matter, they just all fall.”

Creek reached the 40-point mark on a long three-pointer with 2 minutes left in the game to make it a 20-point lead again. The 33-year-old said when he was on 37 points, Silvasan asked if he wanted to stay in the game.

“Coach came up to me and asked if I want to try and score 3 more points or want to come out. I said I just want to play 1 more minute so I know we won this game,” said Creek.

The Australian became just the seventh player to score 40 points in a EuroCup game alongside Randy Duck (49 points, 2003-04), Bobby Brown (44, 2007-08), Mire Chatman (43, 2010-11), Loukas Mavrokefaldis (42, 2015-16), John Roberson (42, 2017-18) and Scottie Wilbekin (41, 2017-18).

About that final three-pointer, Creek said: “I was like everything is going in, I might as well try. It went in. 40 is just a number, a win is more important.”

Creek does meditation before each game and tells himself one thing he wants to get out of today.

“Today I said, I want to have fun. I want to appreciate what I am doing. I just tried to do that tonight,” said Creek, who also set new club records for most points and PIR.

Besides Creek, Nighael Ceaser scored 19 points, Fatts Russell had 16 points, Iverson Molinar chipped in 15 points and 8 assists and Dusan Miletic added 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Neptunas will try to forget this game as soon as possible, especially the first quarter, as the team fell to 5-6 and saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

“For the first two quarters, we didn’t show up and when we tried to play something that looks like basketball, it was too late,” said Coach Gediminas Petrauskas.

“I apologize to our fans who traveled such a long way to support us and to the people who watched on TV. We didn’t come to the game. Allowing 38 points is unacceptable and I take all the blame. I didn’t prepare the team for this game. The second half was much much better, but the first quarter was still too much of a punch for us and we could not recover.”

Rihards Lomazs scored 20 points in the loss, Mindaugas Girdziunas added 19 points and Arnas Velicka tallied 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss.

But this night belonged to Creek and Cluj.

Gach was limited by foul trouble; he tallied 9 points on 3-of-10 shooting in less than 22 minutes for a PIR of 5.

Bourg seemed to have the game under control, leading 37-43 at halftime and extending its margin to 54-63 at the end of the third quarter. In an intense showdown that came down to the final 2 minutes, Bourg recorded its third consecutive road victory by topping Turk Telekom 76-80 in Round 11 in the Turkish capital on Wednesday. Bourg improved to 9-2 in Group B while Turk Telekom dropped to 7-4 after recording its second consecutive home loss.

Will McDowell-White led the winners with 14 points and 7 assists. Ricky Lindo added 11 points and Kevin Kokila had 10 for Bourg. Kyle Alexander stood out for Turk Telekom with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Devoe added 15 points and Dogus Ozdemiroglu scored 10 for the hosts, who trailed most of the game. Alexander brought Turk Telekom within 76-78 in the final minute before Both Gach sealed the outcome from the foul line.

Cluj smashed a number of club records in racing past Neptunas 118-97 at home in an important battle in Group A highlighted by a historic 40-point night by Mitch Creek. Cluj tied its record for the most points in a period with a 38-9 first quarter lead. The halftime score was 68-40 with the Romanian champs setting a club record for most points in a half and pulling into joint-third for most in EuroCup history.

Cluj’s 92 points after three quarters set a new club record and its final 118 points was also a club mark for points in a 40-minute game - just missing its all-time mark of 120. Neptunas trailed by 30 points just before halftime but fought back and made it a 10-point game with 8 minutes to go. But Creek answered with some big shots as he set a club record and became just the seventh player to reach 40 points in EuroCup history. 

The home side improved to 6-5 as it has alternated between wins and losses in its last seven games. In addition to Creek, four other Cluj players scored in double figures with Nighael Ceaser netting 19 points and Fatts Russell 16. Neptunas fell to 5-6 in having its two-game winning streak snapped. Rihards Lomazs scored 20 points to lead the Lithuanian side.

Ulm snapped its four-game losing streak and clawed its way back into Group B playoff contention with a resounding road win over last-placed Panionios, 69-94 on Wednesday night. Ulm improved its record to 5-6, the same as the sixth-place Chemnitz Niners, while Panionios dropped its 10th consecutive game and fell to a group-worst 1-10 record.

Ulm led from start to finish, scoring the first 9 points of the game and later the first 11 points of the second quarter to open a 20-point lead. Panionios never managed to threaten to get the margin in to single digits, as the visitors held a 25-46 advantage at halftime, led by 29 points after three quarters and reached a 30-point lead early in the fourth.

Mark Smith paced Ulm with 21 points, Christian Sengfelder scored 18, Tobias Jensen collected 14 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, while Justin Simon had 12 points and 7 rebounds. Jaylen Hands had 16 points for Panionios, while Tyler Wahl and Stedmon Lemon scored 11 apiece in defeat.

After Slask led at halftime, Manresa shifted the momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the hosts 10-21. The final quarter went back and forth, but Manresa stayed composed down the stretch, with Agustin Ubal leading the way for Manresa.

Ubal finished the game with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Eli Brooks added 19 points and 6 assists in his debut, Pierre Oriola tallied 14 points and 8 rebounds and Retin Obasohan contributed 12 points. Noah Kirkwood paced Slask with 19 points and 4 rebounds, Kadre Gray added 17 points and 7 assists, Jakub Urbaniak posted 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Stefan Djordjevic finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Aris edged Hamburg in a competitive clash at Inselpark Arena on Wednesday night, 89-92. Though Hamburg was able to find an advantage at the end of the first quarter, a run of mistakes and missed opportunities allowed Aris to take control in the second. The hosts hit back, fighting back to put themselves a point ahead heading into the final frame. The teams went toe-to-toe for the majority of the final quarter, with neither side able to run away with the contest. The home team tied the game with 11 seconds remaining, but Elijah Mitrou-Long's free throws proved to be the difference.

Bryce Jones led the way with 20 points and 8 assists for Aris. Danilo Andjusic recorded 18 points, Amine Noua posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds and Arnoldas Kulboka (15 points) and Ronnie Harrell (10 points) also finished on double figures in scoring. Devon Daniels scored 25 points for Hamburg, Ross Williams netted 14 points and Zacharrie Perrin posted 11 points and 12 boards in defeat. 

The result means that Aris has won four of its last five games to climb to 6-5 and a share of fourth place in Group B, strengthening its hopes of postseason action. Despite the gutsy battle, Hamburg slid to 0-11.

Reyer grabbed a big victory in its fight for the playoffs by rallying from 15 points down to beat Bahcesehir 94-85 at home thanks to a career night from Jordan Parks. Bahcesehir built a big lead in the second quarter but Reyer got back into the game and took control in the third period. 

The hosts finished off the game with a 15-3 run to make it 92-77. Reyer snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 5-6 including a 4-1 mark at home. 

Parks scored 26 of his career-high 30 points in the second half and Ky Bowman added 16 points in the win. Bahcesehir fell too 7-4 with four losses in the last six games despite Malachi Flynn pouring in 31 points.

In an overtime thriller that went down to the final seconds, London sent a message by beating Besiktas 98-96 at the Copper Box in the British capital in Round 11. The Lions improved to 5-6 in Group B, while Besiktas dropped to 8-3 and saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.

Shavar Reynolds led the winners with 20 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 1.8 seconds remaining. Johnathan Williams added 18 points, Kameron McGusty had 14 and Deane Williams and Karolis Lukosiunas scored 12 each for London. Anthony Brown paced Besiktas with 19 points on 5-of-5 three-pointers. Brynton Lemar netted 18 points, Jonah Mathews had 17 and Ante Zizic 15 for the visitors. 

Vitto Brown made 3 free throws in the final seconds of regulation to take the game to overtime at 84-84. Reynolds scored 8 of the Lions' points in the extra session and made the difference down the stretch.

Chemnitz grabbed its second consecutive road victory in Group B by downing Lietkabelis 79-85 on the road in Round 11 on Tuesday. Chemmnitz improved to 5-6 in the standings and completed a regular-season sweep of Lietkabelis, which dropped to 2-9 and is on a three-game losing streak.

Nike Sibande led six Chemnitz scorers in double digits with 17 points. Kevin Yebo added 16, John Newman scored 15, Kostja Mushidi 12, Amadou Sow 11 and Ty Brewer 10 for the winners. Kristjan Kullamae paced Lietkabelis with 19 points. Fardaws Aimaq and Danielius Lavrinovicius each had 13 and Michael Flowers and Dovis Bickauskis got 10 apiece for the hosts. Aimaq also grabbed 12 rebounds. Chemnitz led almost from start to finish and even though Lietkabelis was within 79-80 late, Sow and Sibande made the difference down the stretch.

Table-topping Jerusalem held on to defeat second-placed Cedevita at Arena Stozice on Tuesday night, 81-84. Hapoel took an early lead in the first quarter, before Cedevita tightened the gap in the second, but by halftime, the visitors led by 11. Yonatan Alon’s men looked to be in cruise control, when Cedevita pushed back in the fourth, coming within a single point with under a minute left on the clock. Jared Harper kept his nerve at the line, finishing the contest and growing Hapoel's advantage at the top of Group A.

Harper played the starring role, adding 4 assist and 2 rebounds to his 21-point scoring performance, while also hitting crucial last minute shots to drag his team over the line. Anthony Lamb impressed also, recording 14 points and Austin Wiley's 13 rebounds were also a huge contributing factor. The result was tough on Cedevita’s Aleksej Nikolic, who logged a clear game-high of 27-points. Hapoel’s record improved to 9-2, while Cedevita fell to 7-4.

Trento claimed a 91-90 overtime win over Buducnost at the Arena, improving to 6-5 in Group B, while the Montenegrin side fell to 7-4. After a balanced first quarter, Trento extended its lead in the second through effective outside shooting. Buducnost responded in the third, taking control in the paint. In a back-and-forth final quarter, Buducnost tied the game at 80-80 with 22 seconds remaining, sending the contest into overtime. In the extra period, Trento secured the win with a late free throw from DJ Steward.

Devante Jones led Trento with 19 points, while Steward added 14 points and 4 assists. Andrej Jakimovski contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds, Cheickh Niang scored 11 points, and Matas Jogela added 10 points. For Buducnost, Yogi Ferrell led the way with 23 points and 5 rebounds, Nikola Tanaskovic added 12 points and 4 rebounds, Oleksandr Kovliar contributed 12 points, and Rasheed Sulaimon finished with 11 points and 6 assists.

Dolomiti Energia Trento strengthened its position in Group B with a dramatic 91-90 overtime win over Buducnost VOLI Podgorica on Tuesday night. The victory lifted Trento to 6-5 and extended its winning streak to three games.

Coming off two road wins, Trento returned home with confidence and delivered a performance built on resilience and long-range accuracy. The hosts connected on a season-high 14 three-pointers, a key factor in overcoming Buducnost’s size and experience.

After a tense opening quarter, Trento seized control in the second, closing the half with a slim lead. Buducnost fought back in the third, capitalizing on defensive lapses to narrow the gap. The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle, with Trento relying on timely triples to stay alive. In overtime, the Italian side showed composure and a “winning attitude,” as head coach Massimo Cancellieri described it.

“It was a tough game. I’m happy with how we reacted when the game looked like it was going in another direction,” Cancellieri said. “The details made the difference. We were not able to finish the game (in regulation time)… We did it in overtime, we did it with a big winning attitude that allowed us to finish this.’’

Devante Jones led Trento with 19 points, while DJ Steward added 14 and praised his team’s resilience:<br>
“I’m so proud of this group. Just going through adversity throughout the entire game, that’s a really tough team that we beat. I feel like we stuck together the entire game,” Steward said. “That is a great feeling.’’

Andrej Jakimovski contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds, Cheickh Niang scored 11 with three triples, and Matas Jogela chipped in 10.

Buducnost, the EuroCup’s best three-point shooting team entering the game, struggled from deep, hitting just 6 of 23 after averaging 40% this season. Yogi Ferrell paced the visitors with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Nikola Tanaskovic and Oleksandr Kovliar scored 12 apiece.

Next up, Trento will try to extend its winning run at home against the London Lions in Round 12, while Buducnost hosts Turk Telekom looking to bounce back.

Italian side hits season-high 14 triples to claim 91-90 victory and move to 6-5 in Group B

Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem held off a late surge to edge Cedevita Olimpia Ljubljana 84-81 in Round 11, strengthening its grip on first place in Group A thanks to 21 points on 16 free throws from Jared Harper

Harper’s heroics lift Hapoel past Cedevita in EuroCup thriller 

“I think we made some stupid turnovers at the end and made them close, but we controlled the game for about 35 minutes, then we managed to live with those mistakes, with some responsibility and high-level play,” said Yonatan Alon, moments after his Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem team survived a close battle at Arena Stozice on Tuesday night, running away with the 81-84 Round 11 victory.

Table-topping Hapoel took an early lead, before second-placed Cedevita Olimpia Ljubljana tightened the gap in the second period. However, by the time the teams split for halftime, the visitors led by 11.

The hosts stumbled out of the blocks at the restart, providing Hapoel with an avenue to widen the margin. Alon’s men looked to be in cruise control when Cedevita pushed back in the fourth, coming within a single point with under a minute left on the clock.

Despite the aforementioned errors from the Israeli team, they completed the mission. Jared Harper kept his nerve at the line when it mattered, however, finishing the contest and growing his team’s advantage atop Group A.

Harper played a major role in the win, adding 4 assists to his 21-point scoring performance, while also hitting crucial last-minute shots at the charity stripe to drag his team over the line. Despite a tough night from the field – shooting at a clip of 2-of-11 – the 28-year-old guard sank 16 of his 17 free-throws, shouldering the responsibility without flinching.

Anthony Lamb added 14 points and 4 dimes and Khadeen Carrington contributed 11 points.

Austin Wiley recorded a personal best of 13 rebounds for the road team, controlling the glass throughout. His presence was huge in controlling the pace of the contest. The American big man reflected on his performance after the final buzzer.

“Very happy,” Wiley expressed. “I like how we played on defense. I like that we faced adversity, we played to the end and we won.”

The result was tough on Cedevita’s Aleksej Nikolic, who scored a game-high 27 points. Zvezdan Mitrovic will also feel downtrodden after being ejected from the game during the final period.

With the loss, Mitrovic’s team moved to 7-4 for the season, but will have a chance to bounce back after the break, when it faces Aris Thessaloniki Betsson on December 30. Meanwhile, Hapoel will look to improve on its 9-2 record when it welcomes BAXI Manresa that same evening.
