Aris Thessaloniki made headlines on Saturday by announcing the signing of forward Alex Antetokounmpo to a two-year deal.

[Aris Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/aris-midea-thessaloniki/roster/ari/) made headlines on Saturday by announcing the signing of forward Alex Antetokounmpo to a two-year deal.

Antetokounmpo (2.03 meters, 23 years old) is the youngest brother of NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and 2024 EuroLeague champion Kostas Antetokounmpo. Alex joins Aris after finishing last season with cross-town rival PAOK.

The move comes amid sweeping changes at Aris, following the acquisition of the club by the RHC Group, an investment fund led by Richard Hsiao, a close friend of the Antetokounmpo family. With new ownership and a fresh vision, Aris is aiming to restore its legacy as one of Greece’s most storied basketball institutions — a dynasty in the 1980s and still one of the country’s most beloved teams.

Antetokounmpo moved to Milwaukee with Giannis and was a standout high school player at Dominican High School in Wisconsin. He signed with UCAM Murcia in Spain in 2020 and later joined Raptors 905 in the G League before and spending two seasons with the Wisconsin Herd. In 2024, Antetokounmpo played briefly for Mazeikiai in Lithuania and KK Podgorica in Montenegro before returning to Greece with PAOK Thessaloniki.

This is as good as a matchup as one could ask for – especially in the quarterfinals! Goodness gracious is there talent here. The key to analyzing these teams is remembering them for what they were in their respective seasons – and not what they would become or were like earlier in their careers.

**Point guard: Rice vs. Beverley.** Rice was the superior offensive player, with the ball in his hands more to post 17.0 points and 5.5 assists. Beverley was the superior defensive player, which still filling the stat sheet. I think Beverley’s defense would be worth more than whatever advantage Rice has on offense. **Edge: Beverley**

**Shooting guard: Koponen vs. Seibutis.** These are two outstanding shooters at the top of their respective games. Koponen made 45.4% of his threes en route to 13.5 points per game in 2015. Seibutis made 52% of his threes and scored 14.8 points per game. However, Koponen made more threes overall and contributed more rebounds and assists. **Edge: Koponen**

**Small forward: Mejia vs. Planinic.** This surprised me a bit. Mejia was outstanding for Banvit, making 48.1% of his threes and scoring 13.7 points. He also contributed on the glass (5.4 rpg.) and in the passing game (3.3 apg.) for a PIR of 18.2. Planinic, in his lone EuroCup season, was more of a tall, third guard and an absolute difference maker, but his clear advantage in passing (4.9 apg.) do not make up for his poor outside shooting (27.3% 3FG). Planinic had the better career, but Mejia had the better season. **Edge: Mejia**

**Power forward: Brown vs. Caner-Medley.** I don’t want to do anything to diminish what a remarkable season Caner-Medley has in 2011-12 for Valencia, capped by double-double – with a PIR of 38! – in the championship game. That said, Brown had an unreal season for Lokomotiv where he was an offensive dynamo and contributed across the board. **Edge: Brown**

**Center: Tavares vs. Valanciunas.** For both of these at-the-time young centers, this was their only EuroCup season. Neither was at their peak, but both were monsters. Tavares shot less, but made 70.7% of his shots, collected 7.7 rebounds and blocked 1.9 shots. Valanciunas almost matched him with 7.6 points and 1.6 rejections, while scoring 10.8 points per game. **Edge: flip a coin**

Even as we account for all sorts of variables, the 2012 team is – in my opinion – only clearly better at one position. And thus **the 2015 team has my vote** for the semifinals! Who has yours?

Jones arrives from Bosnian club Igokea, where he led the ABA League in scoring last season.

Jones (1.83 meters, 30 years old) averaged 18.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists last season with Igokea and was named to the ABA League First Team. He also competed in the Basketball Champions League, where he posted 14.8 points and 6.3 assists per game.

He returns to the BKT EuroCup after one season away. In his lone campaign in the competition, Jones helped U-BT Cluj-Napoca reach teh 2024 quarterfinals with 11.2 points and 4.3 assists per game.

Jones played college basketball at Jones County JC and Murray State before launching his professional career in Montenegro with KK Ulcinj. He later played in Serbia for Borac Cacak and FMP and in France for Limoges CSP.

With Borac, his first campaign saw him play in the Adriatic League second division and his second was in the Adriatic League top flight. After moving to FMP, also in Serbia, Jones had his best season to date with 15.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 27 Adriatic League games. Thanks to his performances in that campaign, he earned the ABA League assists leader award. Then, last year, he signed for Limoges. Now, he will begin his EuroCup journey with Cluj.

Lietkabelis inks Augustine Rubit on short term deal

[Lietkabelis Panevezys](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/lietkabelis-panevezys/roster/lkb/) has announced that veteran big man [Augustine Rubit](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/augustine-rubit/006477/) penned a short-term contract with the club. Lietkabelis signed Rubit (2.03 meters, 36 years old) as an injury replacement for [Fardaws Aimaq](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/lietkabelis-adds-ace-rebounder-fardaws-aimaq/), who joined the club earlier in the summer.

Rubit was a EuroLeague star before suffering an Achilles injury in February 2023. After that, he played two games with Rostock in the German League in April 2024, and spent last season with Al Kuwait SC, where he posted 19.2 points and 8.8 rebounds in five league appearances.

Rubit spent five seasons and logged 143 appearances in the EuroLeague earlier in his career with Brose Bamberg, Olympiacos Piraeus, Zalgiris Kaunas and FC Bayern Munich and also played two seasons in the EuroCup with ratiopharm Ulm.

The American wing started his career with Tigers Tubingen of Germany in the 2014-15 season and then joined Ulm the following summer. He played 28 games in the EuroCup with Ulm between 2015 and 2017, posting 11.4 points and 5.4 rebounds.

The season after that, Rubit was given a chance to play in the EuroLeague with German side Bamberg, and made an instant impression in Europe's premier club basketball competition, averaging 10.1 points and 4.7 rebounds across 30 appearances in that 2017-18 season.

In years to come, Rubit spent a season with Olympiacos, then went on to play for Zalgiris in the 2020-21 campaign. He enjoyed a bench role at both clubs before Bayern gave him a chance to become a starter in two seasons there. He averaged 10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and a 13.8 PIR in 20 EuroLeague games in the 2022-23, and even [earned the January MVP of the Month award](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/news/mvp-for-january-augustine-rubit-fc-bayern-munich/), before his season was cut short due to an Achilles injury.

Rubit now brings all his experience to help Lietkabelis overcome preseason injury woes.

Aris reunites with Elijah Mitrou-Long

[Aris Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/aris-thessaloniki/roster/ari/) continued revamping its roster by signing guard Elijah Mitrou-Long to a two-year deal, the club announced Monday. 

Mitrou-Long (1.85 meters, 28 years old) last played with Varese, which he joined in February of last season and averaged 12.1 points, 4.3 assist and 2.8 rebounds in the Italian League action. The first part of last season Mitrou-Long spent in Israel with Hapoel Holon, where he posted 12.1 points and 4.0 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 23 games in all competitions.

This marks Mitrou-Long's return to Aris, where he already played during the 2022-23 campaign. Interestingly, he also played with city rival PAOK, where he started his pro career in 2020. Before that, Mitrou-Long played college basketball at Mount St. Mary's, the University of Texas and UNLV. 

During his career, Mitrou-Long has also played for the Niagara River Lions and Brampton Honey Badgers in his native Canada, Apollon Patras and Peristeri in Greece, and Levski Sofia in Bulgaria. He is now set to make his BKT EuroCup debut.

Here we go with two teams from the same era with very different looks. Team 2022 is led by the Virtus duo with Teodosic pulling the string and Jaiteh owning the paint. It’s a true three-guard lineup with Teodosic, Cumming and Needham all able to handle the ball and score. Blossomgame, at the ‘4’, is a blue-collar player who can stretch the floor and finish at the rim.

Team 2019 has a little more balance and size with Giedraitis operating as a true small forward (who made 42.1% of his threes that season!). While McCollum can help at the point, he is this team’s shot maker, leaving Albicy to run the offense and neutralize the opponent’s top guard. Sikma's presence ups the team’s passing game and overall IQ and with him and Dubljevic, there is a big shooter to try and pull Jaiteh out of the paint.

Based on those themes, I think the 2019 version is the stronger team. Who agrees with me?

Aris Thessaloniki signed center Steven Enoch to a multi-year deal, the club announced Saturday. The deal will keep Enoch in Greece through the 2026-27 campaign.

[Aris Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/aris-thessaloniki/roster/ari/) signed center [Steven Enoch](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/steven-enoch/011239/) to a multi-year deal, the club announced Saturday. The deal will keep Enoch in Greece through the 2026-27 campaign.  

Enoch (2.08 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Rytas Vilnius, where he averaged 9.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in the BCL last season, along with 7 points and 3.7 rebounds in the Lithuanian League.

A college basketball standout at Louisville, Enoch began his professional career in 2020 with Obradoiro in Spain. He spent the next two years with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, where he made his EuroLeague debut. In 2023, Enoch joined Turk Telekom Ankara and faced Aris twice in the BKT EuroCup. In his lone season in the EuroCup, Enoch averaged 12.4 points, ranked fourth in the competition with 7.9 rebounds and was seventh with 1.1 blocks per game.

[Aris Thessaloniki](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/aris-thessaloniki/roster/ari/) announced that forward [Georgios Gkiouzelis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/georgios-gkiouzelis/013356/) will remain with the club for two more seasons.

Gkiouzelis (2.04 meters, 29 years old) joined Aris in 2024 and featured in both Greek League and EuroCup action last season. Known for his defensive energy and hustle, he posted 2.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in limited minutes in the EuroCup and 3.1 points and 1.8 boards in Greek league action.

A native of Serres, Greece, Gkiouzelis played for the Panathinaikos Athens youth teams and began his professional career in 2014 with Agia Paraskevi. He has played for a wide range of Greek clubs including Ionikos Nikaias, Peristeri, Koroivos Amaliadas, Diagoras Dryopideon, Iraklis, Karditsa, and Apollon Patras.
