Valencia Basket will be without star point guard [Chris Jones](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/chris-jones/010568/) at the beginning of the 2024-25 BKT EuroCup season after the American underwent surgery on a fractured finger on his right hand.

As Valencia confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, 'Jones will miss the entire preseason and the early part of the 2024-25 season. His evolution will mark the moment when he will be able to join practices with the rest of his teammates.'

Jones is heading into his third season as a Valencia player, having signed for the club in the summer of 2022. He averaged 13.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 28 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games in 2022-23, before posting 12.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 33 EuroLeague appearances last season.

The 31-year-old will play in the EuroCup for the first time in his career in 2024-25. He has spent the last four years in the EuroLeague, suiting up for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in 2020-21 and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in 2021-22 prior to joining Valencia.

Once he returns to action, it is expected that Jones will have a leading role in [new head coach Pedro Martinez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/news/valencia-brings-back-pedro-martinez-as-head-coach/)'s system as Valencia looks to win the EuroCup and return to the EuroLeague, where the Spanish side has played for the last two years.

Here’s a look at some of the more exciting games to keep an eye on for ratiopharm Ulm this season.

Despite ratiopharm Ulm’s rich history in the EuroCup, it will face a number of teams for the first time ever this season: Trefl Sopot, Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius, Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul, Bahcesehir College Istanbul and Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv. Then there are teams that it has grown accustomed to facing in the late rounds of the competition. Here’s a look at some of the more exciting games to keep an eye on for Ulm this season.

### Round 2: Rekindling the Joventut rivalry

Over the past three seasons, Ulm and[ Joventut Badalona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/joventut-badalona/roster/jov/?season=2024-25) have met twice in the EuroCup Eighthfinals. And on both occasions, the visiting team upset the host. In one of the biggest stunners ever in the EuroCup Playoffs, [Ulm upended top-seeded Joventut 73-79 in 2022](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/game-center/2021-22/joventut-badalona-ratiopharm-ulm/U2021/181/) and then last season. Joventut marched into Germany and left with [a 79-88 triumph](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/game-center/2023-24/ratiopharm-ulm-joventut-badalona/U2023/182/) behind a monster effort from Andres Feliz.

Even though both teams have undergone enough changes that the makeup of this clash will be quite different, the organizational memory of those playoff games will be in the air. The fact that it comes so early in the season also means that it will be a key test for both teams.

Two teams who stuttered towards the end of the regular season, both ending with 10-8 records, look to recover their form as Ulm faces Joventut. The Spanish side lost three straight to slide to fifth, while Ulm suffered three consecutive home losses to sow seeds of doubt ahead of this knockout showdown.

### Round 12: Wolves mark the start of a key home stretch

The calendar has line dup nicely for Ulm fans for the end of 2024 and start of 2025. Beginning with a home date against [Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/wolves-vilnius/roster/wol/?season=2024-25) on December 18, Ulm plays three consecutive home games, which means no travel over Christmas. When it goes back on the road, the Round 16 game is at [Dolomiti Energia Trento](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/dolomiti-energia-trento/roster/trn/?season=2024-25), which at les than 400 kilometers will be the shortest road trip of the regular season.

That lineup of games positions Ulm to make a nice little run, which regardless of where it stands at the midway point of the regular season, should push Coach Ty Harrelson’s charges up the table. But it all starts with the first game ever between Ulm and Wolves.

 

### Round 18: The regular-season finale

This game could carry a lot of meaning for both host Ulm and visiting [Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/hapoel-shlomo-tel-aviv/roster/hta/?season=2024-25) in the race for the playoffs and seedings. It could also be a game with much meaning for Ulm’s point guard prospect Ben Saraf. The Israeli teenager chose the Ulm route to continue his development and by Round 18, both player and club hope that Saraf will have a big role for Ulm.

This game presents a matchup against one of the top teams in Israel, which will surely be of interest to Saraf. Moreover, facing off against Hapoel’s Noam Yaacov – players who could become the future backcourt on their national team – will create extra hype. It’s certainly a story to follow in the regular season’s final round.

Trefl Sopot announced on Saturday that it has re-signed center Andy Van Vliet for the 2024-25 season. Van Vliet (2.13 meters, 29 years old) averaged 11.1 points per game on 57.5% two-point shooting and 5.2 rebounds in 45 Polish League games last season to help Trefl win the Polish League crown.

Van Vliet began his career with the Antwerp Giants in his native Belgium before heading to the United States where he played three seasons of college basketball at the University of Wisconsin and another at the College of William & Mary. At Wisconsin, he was a teammate of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul’s Nigel Hayes-Davis, AS Monaco’s Vitto Brown and Valencia Basket’s Ethan Happ. Van Vliet began his professional career in 2020 in Lithuania with Siauliai and then spent the next two seasons in Israel with Bnei Herzliya before coming to Sopot. He helped Herzliya win the 2022 Israeli Cup. This season will be his first in the EuroCup.

I believe that we will be able to defend the title, although I know that the other teams in Poland have strengthened and will want to take it away from us. Thomasson has previous EuroCup experience, as he was a key player in Promitheas Patras during the 2022-23 campaign. That year he averaged 14.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals in 10 games. After graduating in college, Thomasson made his pro debut already in Europe with Dinamo Bucharest of Romania. Since then he has also played in Poland, Israel, Spain, Russia and Greece. He will now get back to Spain and his EuroCup return will be for a home game against Dolomiti Energia Trento on September 24. That day, Thomasson will also be re-united with a former teammate of his at Promitheas in 2002-23, also recently signed by Granca, [George Conditt](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/news/gran-canaria-bulks-up-with-george-conditt/).

The sweet-shooting forward played for the Zalgiris Kaunas youth teams, but left Lithuania when he was just 16 to play in Germany. Basketball has since taken Kulboka to Italy, Spain, the United States of America and Greece and now he completes the circle with the club from the Lithuanian capital.

With Promitheas Patras, Kulboka averaged 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists and a 16.8 PIR in 20 EuroCup games in 2022-23 while leading his team to the quarterfinals. Before that he played for Brose Bamberg and Baunach Young Pikes in Germany, Orlandina in Italy, Bilbao in Spain.

Kulboka had been drafted with the 56th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets and in 2021 he made the move to the USA to suit up with the club. He split the season between the Hornets and their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm. Kulboka played in 2 games for Hornets and 13 for the Swarm before returning to Europe with Promitheas. Now after losing a year to injury, Kulboka will be out to show what he has with Wolves.

Schenk played for Sopot’s youth teams and made his professional debut with Rosa Radom. He has also played for Polpharma Starogard, King Szczecin, Polski Cukier Torun, Grupa Sierleccy Czarni Slupsk and Anwil Wloclawek, all in his native Poland. Schenk has represented the Polish national team, including at EuroBasket 2022 and most recently in the EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers in February.

Aris Midea Thessaloniki announced on Monday that it has signed shooting guard D'Moi Hodge for the 2024-25 season. Hodge (1.91 meters, 25 years old) comes to Europe for the first time after splitting his first season as a professional between the NBA and the G League. He appeared in seven games for the Los Angeles Lakers and 30 in the G League with the South Bay Lakers and Rip City Remix. Hodge averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals in the G League.

A native of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, Hodge moved to the United States to play high school basketball and then played in college for the State College of Florida, Cleveland State University and the University of Missouri. He was Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 with Cleveland State and then led the Southeastern Conference in steals (2.6 per game) the next season with Mizzou.

As recently as 2017 Jerusalem reached the EuroCup semifinals and it won the crown in 2004. In fact, despite its years away, Jerusalem’s 90 EuroCup wins are the ninth-most in competition history.

Here’s a look at some of the most exciting games on Jerusalem’s calendar as it prepares for the 2024-25 EuroCup.

### Round 2: EuroCup memories of Lietkabelis

Jerusalem lost its last four EuroCup games in the 2017-18 season. The last team it beat was [7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/lietkabelis-panevezys/roster/lkb/?season=2024-25) in [November 2017](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/game-center/2017-18/hapoel-bank-yahav-jerusalem-lietkabelis-panevezys/U2017/64/). And Jerusalem will look to score another win over the Lithuanian side in Round 2.

This will be the clubs’ second-ever meeting in Panevezys, where Lietkabelis triumphed [86-72](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/game-center/2017-18/lietkabelis-panevezys-hapoel-bank-yahav-jerusalem/U2017/6/) in the season-opener of the aforementioned campaign. Of course, those games are just historical details since the vast majority of players from them are no longer active. Nevertheless, a strong showing in Jerusalem’s first road game of the season could be critical for Coach Jonathan Alon’s side.

### Round 10: Harper’s homecoming

The Round 10 visit to [Valencia Basket](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/valencia-basket/roster/pam/?season=2024-25) is meaningful for two reasons. One is the long-standing rivalry with the club and the second is the return to the city in the east of Spain of Jerusalem’s new playmaker [Jared Harper](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/jared-harper/011970/). The diminutive guard played his only two European seasons with Valencia in the EuroLeague before joining Jerusalem this summer. Upon the team’s trip to Valencia, Harper will be reunited

Moreover, the game will mark the 11th EuroCup meeting ever between these clubs, which will tie for the most-played rivalry in the competition. The other matchups to have played as many times in the EuroCup will be Valencia vs. Khimki Moscow Region, and [Buducnost VOLI Podgorica](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/buducnost-voli-podgorica/roster/bud/?season=2024-25) vs. [Dreamland Gran Canaria](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/dreamland-gran-canaria/roster/can/?season=2024-25), though the latter two will play for a 12thtime later in the regular season. Jerusalem and Valencia last played in the 2017 EuroCup Semifinals.

### Round 17: A late-season visit to the runner-up

In the penultimate regular-season round, Jerusalem will test itself against last season's runner-up, [Cosea JL Bourg-en-Bresse](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/jl-bourg-en-bresse/roster/bou/?season=2024-25). If all goes right for both teams, this game could have a major impact on the playoff race.

Bourg boasts the experience – both on the roster and the bench – from last season's run to the finals. The team was 11-1 at home before the championship series. Jerusalem can look at Bourg’s feat with envy, but will have the chance on the court to do the same. Will this game in the end be one that sends Jerusalem closer on its quest for glory?

Dolomiti Energia Trento announced over the weekend that it has signed promising young playmaker [Patrick Hassan](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/ngt/players/patrick-hassan/012242/) to a multi-year deal. Hassan (1.85 meters, 17 years old) averaged 5.1 points and 3.4 assists per game for Italy at the U17 Basketball World Cup last month in Türkiye. That performance helped Italy capture the silver medal.

A native of Rome, Hassan played in the junior categories of Basket Roma before moving to Bassano del Grappa where he spent the last two seasons. He helped Bassano reach the final at the 2023 Adidas Next Generation Tournament qualifying event in Patras. Hassan won the Italian U17 championship with Bassano last season. With Trento, he will play for the U19 squad and be available for Coach Paolo Galbiati’s senior team.

“Watching Patrick play, you get impressed by his energy,” Marco Crespi, the director of the Trento basketball academy said. “His athletic engine and competitive nature to overtake the opponent infects his teammates. I am very happy that he has chosen our project to continue his growth. It will be a pleasure to watch his improvements day by day.”
