Stenionis (1.78 meters, 22 years old) arrives from fellow Lithuanian club Nevezis. After showing promise with 4.4 points and 3.5 assists in the top Lithuanian League in the 2021-22 season, Stenionis was limited by injuries to a total of seven games the past two seasons. He came through the youth system at Zalgiris Kaunas and played for the B team there before joining Nevezis. Stenionis also played for the Lithuanian national team at the U19 Basketball World Cup and U20 European Championship in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

The basketball tournament is one of the most anticipated events of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, and the 12-team showpiece will be filled with the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and BKT EuroCup stars from the past and present.

The men's Olympic basketball tournament features 42 players currently under contract with teams set to compete in the 2024-25 campaigns and a half-dozen more who played on EuroLeague and EuroCup floors last season.

The event will feature five reigning EuroLeague champs – [Konstantinos Mitoglou](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/konstantinos-mitoglou/007866/), [Panagiotis Kalaitzakis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/panagiotis-kalaitzakis/011209/) and [Dimitris Moraitis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/dimitris-moraitis/006544/) of Greece, [Juancho Hernangomez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/juancho-hernangomez/012712/) of Spain, and [Mathias Lessort](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/mathias-lessort/003842/) of France – who lifted the trophy this past May with Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens. The Greens nearly had a sixth, but center [Kostas Antetokounmpo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/kostas-antetokounmpo/011221/) was a late scratch due to injury.

There are also 11 more players who competed at the 2024 Final Four wearing the jerseys of Real Madrid, Olympiacos Piraeus or Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in Berlin.

Of the 12 national teams in the French capital, Greece is the team that leads the way with a total of 10 players who are currently on EuroLeague (eight) or EuroCup (two) rosters. Spain comes next with nine such players, followed by Serbia and France, each with seven.

Among those teams, there are also four former EuroLeague MVPs: France's [Nando De Colo](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/nando-de-colo/002100/) (2016), Spain's [Sergio Llull](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/sergio-llull/tgb/) (2017) and Serbia's [Vasilije Micic](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/vasilije-micic/002580/) (2022) will be playing, while 2013 EuroLeague MVP and EuroLeague Legend [Vassilis Spanoulis](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/euroleague/players/vassilis-spanoulis/juo/) is the head coach of Greece.

Spanoulis is one of six head coaches – representing half of the teams in the Olympic tournament – who have left a significant mark in either the EuroLeague, EuroCup or both. Serbia's Svetislav Pesic led FC Barcelona to the EuroLeague crown in 2003, while another coaching mastermind, Spain head coach Sergio Scariolo, won the 2022 EuroCup with Virtus Segafredo Bologna.

Brazil tactician Aleksandar Petrovic was the 2010-11 EuroCup Coach of the Year, while France's Vincent Collet and Germany's and FC Bayern Munich's Gordon Herbert have a combined eight seasons coaching in the EuroLeague and 13 in the EuroCup.

Bahcesehir adds up-and-coming guard Omer Can Ilyasoglu

Bahcesehir College Istanbul strengthened its backcourt for the upcoming season by inking point guard Omer Can Ilyasoglu on Friday. 

Ilyasoglu (1.93 meters, 23 years old) arrives from Mega MIS Belgrade, where he averaged 8.6 points on 41.2% three-pointers and 4.2 assists in 27 Adriatic League games last season. He started his career with Anadolu Efes Istanbul, making his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut in the 2019-20 season. Ilyasoglu played in the 2020-21 EuroCup with Frutti Extra Bursaspor, averaging 7.5 points and 6.5 assists in four games. He has also played for Besiktas Fibabanka Istanbul before joining Mega. Ilyasoglu helped Efes win the Turkish League in 2019 and the Turkish Cup in 2022. He has also been a member of the Turkish national team.

Umana Reyer Venice has acquired one of the most consistent scorers in the BKT EuroCup with the signing of Xavier Munford.

Umana Reyer Venice has acquired one of the most consistent scorers in the BKT EuroCup with the signing of [Xavier Munford](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/eurocup/players/xavier-munford/007759/) to a muti-year deal. Over the last two seasons, Munford (1.93 meters, 32 years old) leads all players in the EuroCup with 580 points. He averaged 15.4 points on 43.5% three-point shooting, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 19 EuroCup games last season for Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv. It was Munford’s third EuroCup campaign after debuting with Frutti Extra Bursaspor in 2020-21 and spending the last two with Hapoel.

Munford began his professional career in his native United States in the G-League with the Bakersfield Jam and Greensboro Swarm as well as a spell in the NBA with the Memphic Grizzlies. His only other European experience came with FC Barcelona late in the 2016-17 season, when he played five games' worth of limited action in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and six in the Spanish League.

Best of Xavier Munford: 2023-24

He later suited up for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA; Wisconsin Herd and Delaware Blue Coats in the G-League, Fujian in China and South East Melbourne in Australia. Munford also played for Team USA at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup.

In Venice, Munford will reunite with playmaker Tyler Ennis, who was his backcourt mate at the end of last season with Hapoel.

Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius announced the signing of combo guard [Andrew Andrews](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/andrew-andrews/011248/) for the 2024-25 season on Friday.

Andrews (1.88 meters, 31 years old) arrives from Joventut Badalona, where he averaged 14.6 points, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals in 16 EuroCup games last season. He led the competition in free throw percentage (98.4% FT), missing just one of his 63 attempts.

Andrews had a fantastic 2021-22 EuroCup season with Frutti Extra Bursaspor, which he led all the way to the Final. He averaged 4.1 points in the first eight EuroCup games, but a change of roles gave him the opportunity to shine and Andrews took full advantage of it. He averaged 20.7 points for the remainder of the season, leading Bursaspor to consecutive road victories against Partizan Belgrade, Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana and MoraBanc Andorra to reach the championship game against Virtus Segafredo Bologna. 

Andrews has also played for Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens of Greece, Best Balikesir, Demir Insaat Buyukcekmece and Darussafaka Istanbul of Turkiye, as well as for VEF Riga of Latvia.

Dolomiti Energia Trento announced signing playmaker Jordan Ford for the upcoming season. Ford (1.85 meters, 26 years old) has split last season between the NBA side Sacramento Kings and G-League team Stockton Kings. In the NBA, Ford made six limited appearances posting 2.0 points per game, while in 38 game in the G-League he averaged 16.2 points on 43.6% three-point shooting, 4.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals.

Ford turned pro in 2020, after four years at Saint Mary's College of California. He played hi professional season with Clippers of Ontario in the G-League, before finishing the season in Greece with Peristeri Athens. He played in the 2021-22 with the Clippers of Ontario, and the season after with the Stockton Kings. He made his NBA debut last season, and the upcoming campaign he will make his BKT EuroCup debut.

Joventut signs versatile forward Kaiser Gates

Joventut Badalona bolstered its frontcourt by inking versatile power forward Kaiser Gates to a one-year deal, the club announced Friday.

Gates (2.02 meters, 27 years old) arrives from the Long Island Nets in the G League, where he averaged 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 45 games last season. He started the 2023-24 campaign with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA, though he only took part in one game. Gates began his professional career with the Windy City Bulls in the G-League. He also played for Maine in the G League and Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem of Israel before joining Long Island in 2022. Gates was a member of the USA national team at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup qualifiers.

Trefl adds guard Trey McGowens

Trefl Sopot strengthened its backcourt by inking guard Trey McGowens to a one-year deal, the club announced Friday. 

McGowens (1.90 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Edmonton Stingers, where he averaged 16.4 points on 46.9% three-pointers, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists in eight Canadian CEBL League games last season. He played for three G League teams throughout the 2023-24 campaign: Raptors 905, College Park and Long Island. McGowens, whose brother Bryce currently plays in the NBA, helped USA win a gold medal in the 2023 FIBA ​​3x3 U23 World Cup, earning MVP honors. He is set to make his BKT EuroCup debut with Trefl next season.

Games to Watch: Trefl Sopot

Trefl Sopot will be making its long-awaited return to the BKT EuroCup this season. Nearly every game will have some special meaning as the club tries to cement itself as a rising force in continental hoops. Here are just a few of the key dates on the team’s calendar.

### Round 1: Ulm is the opponent for Sopot’s EuroCup return

When the bright lights shine down for the opening tip on September 25, Sopot will play its first EuroCup game since 2012! It’s been a well-deserved return as Coach Zan Tabak has raised the team’s profile by winning two trophies in his two seasons at the club, including the Polish League crown last season.

Opening the season in itself should be a reason for celebration and doing so at home against [ratiopharm Ulm](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/ratiopharm-ulm/roster/ulm/?season=2024-25), a respected EuroCup side from a neighboring country only adds to the excitement. Round 1 will mark the start of a new chapter in club history.

### Round 12: Coach Tabak and co. visit Badalona

Coach Tabak brings a wealth of experience with him, including playing the first two seasons of the EuroCup with [Joventut Badalona](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/joventut-badalona/roster/jov/?season=2024-25), where he played one season under Coach Aito Garcia Reneses and was a teammate of a young [Rudy Fernandez](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/rudy-fernandez/bmt/).

Tabak played professionally for three Spanish clubs and served as the head coach of five teams from Spain. The trip for Sopot to face Joventut for the first time is another historic moment for the club and it is only fitting that Tabak lead the way.

### Round 15: Ponitka and Bahcesehir come for a visit

From the moment it was announced that [Mateusz Ponitka](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/players/mateusz-ponitka/004172/) had signed with [Bahcesehir College Istanbul](https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/en/eurocup/teams/bahcesehir-college-istanbul/roster/bah/?season=2024-25), there was some excitement in Sopot. In fact, the club even tweeted out the dates of their games against the captain of the Polish national team.

Naturally, the more exciting of the two fixtures will be the one in Poland in Round 15. It will also be Sopot’s penultimate home game in the regular season. If Sopot is going to make a run at a spot in the EuroCup Playoffs, this could be a critical contest.
