Panionios Athens continued building its roster for the 2025-26 season with the addition of Sotiris Oikonomopoulos, who became the club’s sixth signing of the summer.
Oikonomopoulos (1.91 meters, 22 years old) came up through the ranks at Olympiacos Piraeus, where he made his professional debut during the 2021–22 season. He later gained experience on loan in both the Greek second division with Panerythraikos and Psychiko as well as in the top flight with Lavrio Megabolt. Last season, Oikonomopoulos split time between Ermis Schimatariou in the second division and Promitheas Patras in the top league.
He also left his mark on the international stage in the summer of 2023, helping the Greece to the bronze medal at the FIBA U20 European Championship in Heraklion. In seven games at the tournament, he averaged 10.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals.
