The 27-year-old center had one of his finest games yet for Bourg
Pansa decided the back-and-forth battle in Ljubljana
Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana and Cosea JL Bourg-en-Bresse battled hard for 40 minutes in a very physical game on Wednesday, which saw Bourg prevail 83-90 behind Jean-Marc Pansa's strong contribution.
Pansa is playing his first EuroCup season in five years. In his first experience in the competition, he averaged 2.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 10 games with Nanterre 92 in the 2020-21 campaign and never scored in double digits. After that, Pansa went to play in the French second division for four years, first for Sharks Antibes and then for Boulazac Basket Dordogne.
At age 27, Pansa is at the prime of his career and compensates his lack of experience at this level with hustle, determination and outstanding physicality. He had a strong EuroCup return, going for 16 points in 19 minutes against Veolia Hamburg Towers. Pansa also reached double digits twice before this game, against Umana Reyer Venice and Aris Midea Thessaloniki. He arguably played his best game of the season against Cedevita, making the difference off the bench.
Pansa was limited to just 1 point in the first 24 minutes but made the difference in the second half. He scored 9 points in the next 6 minutes on a layup, a three-point play and 4 free throws to put Bourg in charge, 68-69, at the end of the third quarter. Pansa also played a critical role in the fourth quarter, as his put-back layup in the final seconds allowed Bourg to seal the outcome.

In the end, Pansa had 13 of his 14 points in the final 16 minutes, hitting 4 of 4 two-pointers and 6 of 7 free throws. He added 6 rebounds, a block and 6 fouls drawn for a PIR of 21, a new career high. After two consecutive losses, Bourg was back in track with a prestigious win at Stozice Arena.
"It was a tough game tonight. We had to bounce back because we lost in the last two EuroCup games, especially the last one at home," Pensa said after the game. "The way we defended in the third and fourth quarters was very important for us. We secured the rebounds, and we know that this team has played really tough.
"We just played our game, that's our identity. We are proud of the job we did tonight and now, we have to keep going."
