Turk Telekom Ankara strengthened its frontcourt by signing center Metehan Akyel on Tuesday. Akyel (2.06 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Buyukcekmece Basketbol, where he averaged 3.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 29 Turkish League games last season. He started his career with Bandirma Kirmizi and went on to make his EuroCup debut with Banvit Bandirma in the 2015-16 campaign, taking part in 2 games and seeing less than 2 minutes on the court in total.
Akyel also played for two more Turkish teams, Gaziantep Basketbol and Socar Petkimspor, before joining Buyukcekmece last season. He helped Bancit win the Turkish Cup title in 2017. Akyel also won two medals with the Turkish national team: gold at the 2014 U18 European Championships, and bronze at the 2016 U20 European Championships.
