Valencia stays perfect with tough road win at Aris, 59-63
Valencia Basket outfought Aris Midea Thessaloniki, 59-63, to stay perfect at the top of Group B with a 6-0 record, dropping the Greek team to 2-5.
A closely fought first half featured five lead changes before Valencia took a 33-35 lead into the break. Valencia led for most of the second half but Aris never gave up, and the outcome was only settled in the final minute.
Semi Ojeleye paced Valencia with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Xabi Lopez-Arostegui added 10 points. Joshua Roberts also bagged a double-double for Aris with 10 points and 12 boards, while Trey Woodbury netted 19 points and Vassilis Toliopoulos added 18.

Ojeleye’s dunk opened the scoring but Woodbury netted twice and Toliopoulos struck from long-range to give Aris its first lead, 7-4. Ojeleye replied with a pair of triples, but Nathan Laszewski’s strong dunk tied it up, 10-10. Lopez-Arostegui also hit a three for Valencia, but Leftheris Bochoridis kept it close with a couple of inside scores and Roberts also scored at the rim to make it 16-15. D’Moi Hodge added a three-pointer before Valencia's free throws ended the first quarter tied up, 19-19.
Jaime Pradilla’s coast-to-coast layup started the second quarter scoring, but Toliopoulos replied with two transition buckets during a low-scoring phase of action. Lopez-Arogtegui forced another tie, 23-23, before Roberts made a tough layup and one and Ojeleye hit back with his third triple. Lopez-Arostegui scored twice and Josep Puerto hit a triple as Valencia enjoyed a 3-12 run for a 29-35 lead, but a layup by Toliopoulos pulled it back to 33-35 at the half.
Pradilla converted a delicious feed from Jean Montero early in the third, but Toliopoulos and Woodbury tied it up, 37-37. Nate Reuvers hit a jumper and Matt Costello scored at the rim, but free throws kept Aris close, 39-41, midway through the third. Nate Sestina, Toliopoulos and Brancou Badio all hit from deep, before Woodbury’s tough conversion at the rim and Reuvers’ tip-in made it 44-52 with ten minutes left.
Another putback from Reuvers made it a double-digit lead at the start of the fourth, before close-range scores from Roberts and Woodbury – with three buckets in a row – pulled Aris back, 52-54. Ojeleye’s free throws settled Valencia, but Woodbury hit from deep as both offenses otherwise misfired. It was 55-57 with two minutes left, and Toliopoulos briefly tied it up with a floater before Montero made a long two. Montero then added a layup, and Woodbury’s final score wasn’t enough.
