Barcelona back in first place after downing Partizan, 79-87
FC Barcelona held off a spirited fightback from Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade to win 79-87 on the road, improving to 7-2 and returning to a share of first place, while the hosts dropped to 2-7 after five straight losses.
Partizan led most of the first quarter, but Barca took over and roared into a seemingly dominant 40-63 lead midway through the third. The hosts gradually came back and it was 78-79 with 90 seconds remaining, but the visitors held on.
Kevin Punter led the way against his former team with 18 points and Jabari Parker added 17 points with 7 rebounds, while Jan Vesely chipped in with 12. Carlik Jones paced Partizan with 17 points and Aleksej Pokusevski netted 12.

Partizan debutant Mitar Bosnjakovic struck first before Alex Abrines got Barca moving with a triple. Sterling Brown hit from deep and Carlik Jones added a driving layup, answered by Vesely from mid-range for a 7-7 tie. Isaac Bonga was on target with a three and 3 free throws. Tyrique Jones added a fastbreak slam for a 15-9 lead. Carlik Jones struck another triple and added a layup to make it a double-digit advantage, 21-11. Justin Anderson and Punter brought Barca back with threes, but Brown’s reverse layup completed the first quarter scoring, 23-19.
Chimezie Metu’s layup and Juan Nunez’s tip-in tied it up before Vesely and Pokusevski traded three-point plays. Brandon Davies scored a tough inside bucket, but Parker’s triple made it 30-31. Metu kept Barca ahead and Parker added a deep strike followed by free throws for a 32-40 lead. Metu’s brutal slam and layup capped a 0-13 run for a double-digit lead, before Bonga’s putback rescued the host. But Parker made another triple and Dario Brizuela beat the halftime buzzer with a floater, making it 35-49 at the break.
Punter scored the first 5 points of the second half, following a triple with a classy layup, and Abrines made it a 22-point margin from long-range. Partizan had only free throws from Brown as Parker added consecutive scores for a 40-63 lead. Nunez glided to the basket to score, before Tyrique Jones finally netted the home team’s first field goal of the half. Carlik Jones with a layup and Brandon Davies with a triple pulled Partizan closer and another Carlik Jones three made it 58-70 at the end of the third.
Punter and Justin Anderson kept Barca moving early in the fourth despite a three-point play from Carlik Jones, but Partizan kept fighting and a pair of buckets from Boznjakovic pulled it back to 65-76. Anderson’s layup was bettered by Duane Washington’s three, and Frank Ntilikina’s triple made it a single-digit margin, 71-78, with three minutes left. Pokusevski added another three-pointer and Iffe Lundberg made free throws to complete an 11-0 run, but Punter’s jumper settled Barca at 76-80. Lundberg made 3 more from the line, but Abrines responded with a triple. Partizan’s offense could offer no more, and another Punter jumper sealed the deal.
