Game Leaders
Finally another road win
Baskonia has not been a road warrior this season with the victory snapping a six-game road losing streak. The last win away from its Fernando Buesa Arena came against Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade on December 12. Baskonia improved to 3-11 on the road.
Home worries continue
Bayern started the season 5-2 at home, but has since lost six of its seven games at Audi Dome. Bayern missed a chance to pick up back-to-back wins for the first time since Rounds 13 and 14 and Oliver Kostic’s team is just 2-11 in the last 13 contests.
Telling numbers
Bayern committed 18 turnovers at home and could not stop the Baskonia inside attack as the visitors shot 61.0 percent on two-pointers. The visitors also grabbed some easy points with a 16-8 advantage in fastbreak points.
Dusko Ivanovic, KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz
"I have many things I want to tell my team. We need to improve many things. I don’t have time to say all of them tonight. That will be for tomorrow. We played well with small ball at the end of the third quarter and the final quarter, we played faster and a little more impressive. But this is really a team win."
Oliver Kostic, FC Bayern Munich
"I think that we had a good effort, good fighting today. We had some numbers that if you want to win the game have to be better. First of all, we let them score 16 points in transition and 10 points off offensive rebounds, it’s already 26. And we had 19 turnovers – 11 in the second half. With these numbers, it’s very difficult to keep the rhythm of the game and to control the game, to win the game. We need to improve this for the future games."
Tornike Shengelia, KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz
"We can enjoy this tonight, but we know that we have to think about the next game starting tomorrow. This was a team effort. We did an amazing job. The second unit came in strong and played amazing defense. That was the key for us to get the win."
Michael Eric, KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz
"We just had positive energy. We’ve been trying to overcome a down season that we have been having. That first half gave us a little energy to think that we can win. We came into the second half with positive energy."
Danilo Barthel, FC Bayern Munich
"We had too many turnovers and that pushed the Baskonia. We need to be calm even when we're struggling on defense. After two wins and the positive trend last week, this is even more disappointing, because we had a good chance to win the game. On Friday in Barcelona we can't afford a single period of weakness, otherwise, the game is over."
