Baskonia's second unit stepped up in Round 12
Cazoo Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz went scoreless in the opening 4 minutes of its Round 12 showdown against FC Bayern Munich at Buesa Arena, but head coach Joan Penarroya found answers off the bench.
Pierria Henry stepped onto the court with 5:16 minutes remaining in the first quarter and immediately delivered, feeding Maik Kotsar for a layup, hitting a stop-and-pop jumper off a steal and finding Rokas Giedraitis for a fastbreak layup. Henry soon got help from Steven Enoch, who found a couple of easy buckets, and Markus Howard, who beat the first-quarter buzzer with a bomb from downtown. All of a sudden, Baskonia led 17-10 after 10 minutes.
Another backup player, Matt Costello, took over early in the second quarter and helped Baskonia make it a double-digit game, 36-24. The hosts never looked back after that, playing with the right rhythm on offense until the final buzzer sounded. Henry and Costello led the way with 14 points apiece, while Enoch added 10, Howard had 5 and Tadas Sedekerskis chipped in with 2. Baskonia's second unit got 45 of their team's 78 points, stepping up right after being called to make the difference in the game.
