Bayern's frontcourt players shined through
FC Bayern Munich found a big way to defeat Panathinaikos Athens - by using its low-post players. Bayern’s frontcourt dominated the game and helped the German side beat Panathinaikos 84-68 to stop a skid of four losses in five games. Augustine Rubit scored a season-high 23 points with an index rating of 34 - matching his career high that also came against the Greens in February 2018.
"We have been putting together a team defense and swinging the ball on offense. And I’m glad it showed so we know to keep doing it,” said Rubit, who also scored a career-best 26 points in that 2018 game for Brose Bamberg.

Bayern head coach Andrea Trinchieri really praised his forward, saying: "We played team offense, team defense. We found players who were inspired on offense like Aug [Rubit] and we moved the ball… Usually, we shoot 30 threes but tonight we were very good at putting the ball inside. So we adapted to the great efficiency from our inside game and we didn’t need to shoot the ball from the outside."
Rubit is really playing excellently of late, scoring in double figures in five of his last six games and averaging 18.0 points in the last three contests.
Rubit wasn’t alone against Panathinaikos. Othello Hunter scored 10 points for his fourth double-figure scoring output in the last five games while Elias Harris chipped in 8 points in less than 12 minutes - the most points he’s had since scoring 14 in Round 11.
And Freddie Gillespie picked up 10 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
"In the second half of the EuroLeague, we have found a rhythm. I just trusted my teammates and had them trust me," said Gillespie.
If Rubit, Gillespie and co. can continue to play like this, Bayern could really start wrapping up more wins.
