After going scoreless in Game 1, forward Deshaun Thomas became FC Bayern's key weapon in the team's 75-90 road victory in Game 2 on the court of FC Barcelona.
Bayern's Thomas lit a fire that burned Barca
By his own count, Thomas started the series slow due to an inability to catch any rhythm in the opener. He could not find the basket in almost 12 minutes on court in Game 1, missing both two-pointers and the only three-pointer he tried while failing to reach the foul line, as well.
By the count of opposing coach Sarunas Jasikevicius of Barcelona, that zero in the Bayern scoring column for Thomas was nothing less than a warning to his team before Game 2.
"I tried to emphasize that Deshaun Thomas after zero points will come out firing," Jasikevicius said after Bayern evened the series 1-1.
Thomas didn't exactly come out firing -- save for a free throw, his first quarter was as quiet as his first game-- but by the time he was done on Thursday, Barca was buried under a barrage of his well-timed three-pointers.
Thomas exploded with 15 points in the second quarter as Bayern took over the scoreboard and added 9 more in the second half to finish as the game's top scorer with 25 points.
In the end, he made 6 of 7 three-pointers on the night, which tied for the second-most triples downed in any playoff game over the last decade.
Most important, Bayern extended the series long enough to host two games in Munich next week -- and if Thomas stays hot, the next stop for him and his team could well be the Final Four.
