Daniel Theis returns to the EuroLeague with Monaco

AS Monaco has signed veteran big man Daniel Theis for the remainder of the season and beyond, the club announced on Monday.
Theis (2.03 meters, 32 years old) returns to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for the first time since the 2016-17 season when he played for Brose Bamberg in his native Germany.
He has spent the past nine seasons in the NBA during which he suited up for the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers and most recently, the New Orleans Pelicans.
Theis averaged 7.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game over 411 appearances, including 4.3 points and 4.3 boards over 16.3 minutes in 38 games this season.
"AS Monaco is delighted to announce the signing for the current season and beyond of German international center and world champion Daniel Theis (32, 2.03m), who joins from the NBA, where he has spent the last seven seasons," read Monaco's statement.
His best season came with the Celtics in 2019-20 when he averaged 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He was traded by the Pelicans to the Oklahoma City Thunder last week, after which he was released and decided to return to Europe.
Theis began his career with Braunschweig in his native Germany and also spent two seasons with ratiopharm Ulm and three with Bamberg – the last two in the EuroLeague – before signing in Boston. He has career averages of 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 54 appearances in the EuroLeague.
A long time pillar of the German national team, Theis helped his country capture a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2022 and gold at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
