Efes outguns Bayern at home, 101-90
Anadolu Efes Istanbul returned to winning ways in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by topping FC Bayern Munich 101-90 at home in Round 13 on Tuesday. Efes improved to 7-6 in the standings while Bayern dropped to 8-5.
Darius Thompson led the winners with 19 points. Dan Oturu added 14, Ercan Osmani and Rolands Smits each had 13, Jordan Nwora got 12 while Elijah Bryant contributed 10. Devin Booked paced Bayern with a career-high 27 points. Carsen Edwards added 20 while Nick Weiler-Babb had 17.

Edwards got Bayern going with a driving layup and Booker erased Rodrigue Beabouis's layup with a fast-break dunk for a 2-4 lead. Justus Hollatz scored in penetration and Vincent Poirier added a floater to give Efes its first lead, 6-4. Osmani stepped up with a driving layup and a three-pointer that boosted the hosts' lead to 11-8. Thompson also struck from downtown, then Osmani and Booker traded baskets before Poirier's jump hook gave his team a 18-10 margin. Booker kept pacing Bayern and Onuralp Bitim's jumper kept the visitors within 20-16. Booker followed a put-back slam with a layup and added a floater soon after. Thompson and Osmani rescued Efes, then Bryant's nine-meter triple gave the hosts a 27-22 lead after 10 minutes.
Oturu took over with an alley-oop dunk early in the second quarter. Nwora scored in the low post and Bryant's fadeaway jumper made it a double-digit game, 33-23. Shabazz Napier stepped up with a reverse layup, then Niels Giffey and Edwards each struck from downtown to bring Bayern as close as 35-31. Oturu ignited the crowd with an alley-oop slam, then Edwards and Nwora traded triples. Oturu dunked again to make Bayern call a timeout at 42-34. Oturu and Nwora remained unstoppable, then Smits capped a 12-0 Efes run with a reverse layup. Booker scored in the paint and fed Johannes Voigtmann for a layup, but Smits and an unstoppable Oturu made it a 16-point game, 54-38. Booker silenced the crowd with a power layup and another put-back dunk, getting help from Voigtmann and Edwards to bring Bayern within 56-48 at halftime.
Thompson scored off a midcourt steal soon after the break and Oturu bettered Booker's one-handed alley-oop slam with a three-point play, good for a 62-50 Efes lead. Weiler-Babb struck twice from downtown to keep Bayern within 64-56. Thompson beat the shot clock with a three-pointer, Edwards found space for a wide open layup and Weiler-Babb got the guests even closer, 67-60. Booker downed a mid-range jumper, Bryant and a red hot Weiler-Babb traded triples and Nwora's floater gave Efes fresh air at 72-65. Weiler-Babb buried his fourth and fifth three-pointer, then Edwards brought Bayern within 74-73 after 30 minutes.
Thompson stepped up with a driving layup early in the fourth quarter and Smits added a jump hook that gave Efes fresh air, 78-73. Smits bettered Booker's with a corner triple, Kevin Yebo and a red-hot Thompson traded put-back layups and Napier's fast-break basket kept Bayern as close as 83-79. Smits finished a three-chance Efes offense with a three-point play, Edwards scored in penetration and Nwora's dunk ignited the crowd at 88-81. Napier buried a three-pointer and erased Poirier's close basket with a layup. Thompson and Beaubois each buried a critical three-pointer that sealed the outcome, 96-88, with over 2 minutes left. Bryant buried a floater and Beaubois's three-pointer allowed Efes to celebrate a well-deserved win in style.
