Hayes-Davis leads Fenerbahce past Bayern, 87-76
In a battle atop the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings, Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul grabbed its fourth consecutive victory by downing FC Bayern Munich 87-76 at home in Round 9 on Tuesday evening.
Fenerbahce improved to 7-2 in the standings while Bayern dropped to 6-3. Nigel Hayes-Davis led the winners with 25 points, with all of his points coming in the second half. Devon Hall added 12 and 7 assists, and Tarik Biberovic and Bonzie Colson both had 11 points each. Carsen Edwards paced Bayern with 24 points, Devin Booker added 20 and Oscar da Silva had 10.

Colson got Fenerbahce going with a close-range jumper which Booker improved with a three-pointer for a 2-3 Bayern lead. Hall stepped up for the hosts, then Edwards followed a fadeaway jumper with a triple before finding Booker for a one-handed slam, good for a 7-10 Bayern lead. Edwards kept pacing the guests with a driving layup, getting help from Booker to boost their team's lead to 9-16. Andreas Obst Improved Hall's fadeaway jumper with a bomb from downtown, then Elias Harris made it a double-digit game, 11-21. Marko Guduric brought Fenerbahce within 13-21 after 10 minutes.
Guduric scored in penetration early in the second quarter and Nicolo Melli's jumper gave Fenerbahce hope at 17-21. Sertac Sanli erased Harris's layup with a dunk and added a three-pointer that made Bayern call a timeout at 22-23. Colson completed Fenerbahce's comeback with a three-pointer which Melli followed with a fast-break dunk for a 27-23 lead. Khem Birch capped a mammoth 18-2 run with a layup, then Booker dunked at the other end. Arturs Zagars found his first points, da Silva scored in the low post and Colson's step-back jumper boosted the hosts' lead to 33-27. Nick Weiler-Babb took over with a three-point play and Hall's reverse layup fixed the halftime score at 35-30.
Booker buried a three-pointer soon after the break and Obst copied him right after to tie it at 37-37. Hayes-Davis joined the three-point shootout and Sanli added a backdoor layup to restore a 42-37 Fenerbahce lead. Booker, Edwards and Guduric each scored around the basket, and Hayes-Davis insisted for beyond the arc. Edwards sank a corner triple to keep Bayern as close as 47-44. Weiler-Babb and Hayes-Davis traded layups, Booker dunked again and Melli's three-pointer gave the hosts a 52-48 margin. Da Silva scored down low and Edwards buried another three-pointer but a red-hot Hayes-Davis kept Fenerbahce in charge, 57-53. Shabazz Napier hit a triple, Melli downed a turnaround jumper and Hall struck from downtown for a 62-48 score. Hayes-Davis followed a driving layup with a bomb from beyond the arc that boosted his team's lead to 67-58 after 30 minutes.
An unstoppable Hayes-Davis banked in a jumper early in the fourth quarter and added his fifth three-pointer to break the game open, 72-58. Da Silva scored in transition and Booker silenced the crowd with a dunk, then Biberovic rescued Fenerbahce with back-to-back bombs from beyond the arc. Da Silva found space for a backdoor slam and added a turnaround jumper, getting help from Edwards to keep Bayern within 80-70 with over 3 minutes left. Biberovic and Edwards exchanged driving layups and Hayes-Davis buried a jumper that sealed the outcome, 84-72, in the penultimate minute.
