The American guard brings his talents to Serbia for the first time
Isaiah Canaan joins Crvena Zvezda
Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade has secured itself the services of Isaiah Canaan on a two-year deal, the club confirmed Wednesday. Canaan (1.83 meters, 33 years old) has spent the last two years at Olympiacos Piraeus and averaged 11.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 41 games as the Reds reached the 2024 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four, finishing third. The 2024-25 campaign will be Canaan’s fifth in the EuroLeague.
Canaan’s EuroLeague journey began in 2021-22, when he suited up for UNICS Kazan. That season, he played 24 games and posted 11.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. The year before, he helped lead UNICS to the BKT EuroCup Finals, averaging 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
His first campaign at Olympiacos in 2022-23 almost led to Canaan getting his hands on the EuroLeague championship, with the guard averaging 6.3 points across 39 games. In the championship game, Canaan came close to becoming the hero for the Reds by netting 21 points, yet instead it was Real Madrid’s Sergio Llull as he scored the game-winning shot.
Last season, Canaan increased his scoring average to 11.1 points per game across 41 appearances and once again got to taste Final Four basketball. However, Olympiacos came up short against Real for the second year in a row before managing to beat Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in the third-place game.
Canaan started his professional career with the Houston Rockets in the NBA before going on to fellow NBA teams the Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Rockets again, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Milwaukee Bucks. He’s also played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the Stockton Kings in the G League. Between leaving UNICS and joining Olympiacos, Canaan represented Galatasaray on a short-term deal.
