Milan honors retired icon Luigi Datome

EA7 Emporio Armani Milan marked its first Turkish Airlines EuroLeague home game of the season by honoring recently retired star Luigi “Gigi” Datome with a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday before taking on Olympiacos Piraeus
"Luigi Datome Night" at Mediolanum Forum gave the home fans in Milan a chance to say goodbye to the former EuroLeague champion who played his final three seasons with the club and was an icon of the Italian national team.
The celebration of Datome's career included the sharpshooting forward, amateur rock-and-roll guitarist and all-around cultural icon being inducted into the club's hall of fame. A crowd of more than 10,000 people was on hand to toast Datome and Milan made the night special by offering fans a special-edition Datome jersey with a throw-back design and the hall of fame insignia.
The club also presented Datome with a plaque commemorating his entry into the hall of fame that included a quote by club owner Giorgio Armani hailing Datome's perseverance and resiliency in overcoming obstacles.
Datome, 35, announced his retirement from club basketball over the summer but ended his career playing for the Italian national team at the recent FIBA World Cup. He was feted by another of his former teams, Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, when Milan played its first road game of the EuroLeague season there in Round 1.
