Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv added a formidable weapon to its frontline on Tuesday with the signing of Alex Poythress. The big man, who spent the past two seasons with Zenit St Petersburg, agreed to terms on a one-year deal. Poythress (2.06 meters, 28 years old) averaged 7.7 points on 64.0% two-point shooting and 4.2 rebounds in 23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season mostly in a reserve role.

Poythress made his European basketball debut with Galatasaray Istanbul, which he played for in the 7DAYS EuroCup in 2019-20. He has also suited up for Jilin Northeast Tigers in China and Philadelphia, Indiana and Atlanta in the NBA, as well as Fort Wayne and Erie in the G-League. Poythress played college basketball at the University of Kentucky and reached back-to-back NCAA Final Fours in 2014 and 2015.
