Maccabi lands Olympian Marial Shayok on 2-year-deal
Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv has signed swingman Marial Shayok to a two-year contract, the club announced on Wednesday.
Shayok (1.98 meters, 29 years old) will reunite with his South Sudan national teammate Wenyen Gabriel, with whom he represented his country at the Olympic Games in Paris.
He arrives from the Liaoning Flying Leopards of the Chinese League, where he averaged 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season.
Shayok has EuroLeague experience from his stint with Fenerbahce Istanbul, for whom he averaged 4.6 points in 15 EuroLeague games in the 2021-22 campaign.
Shayok grew up in Canada and played college basketball in the United States for the University of Virginia and Iowa State University. He began his professional career in 2019 with the Philadelphia 76ers and their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
Since then, Shayok has played for Frutti Extra Bursaspor and Fenerbahce in Turkiye, the Maine Celtics in the G League, and Shandong Kirin and Liaoning in China.
