Maccabi locks up top prospect Omer Mayer through 2027
Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv announced the signing of top prospect Omer Mayer to a deal that will keep him in Tel Aviv through the 2026-27 season. Mayer (1.93 meters, 17 years old) is a product of the club’s youth department, which he first joined at age 8. He made his professional debut last season. Mayer played limited minutes in five Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games and became the youngest player to ever score a basket for Maccabi in the competition.
Mayer carved out a role for himself in the Israeli League where he averaged 4.7 points and 1.8 assists in 21 Israeli League appearances, including a 16-point, 6-assist effort in the regular-season finale.
At the junior level, Mayer tallied 19.0 points, 6.5 assists and 3.3 steals for U18 Maccabi at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament qualifying event in Belgrade last season. He won two national championships and two Israeli Cups with Maccabi’s junior teams. Mayer has also player for Israel’s national teams at the U16 and U18 levels. Over the summer, he averaged 18.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists to help Israel reach the semifinals of the European U18 Championship.
