Monaco, Okobo agree to two-year pact
AS Monaco and Elie Okobo will remain together for another two seasons, the club announced Sunday. Okobo (1.91 meters, 26 years old) had originally signed a two-year deal with the club in the summer of 2022. In his two seasons with the club, Okobo helped the club reach new heights, including getting to the 2023 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four and back-to-back French League championships.
Okobo came off the bench in 34 of his 37 EuroLeague appearances last season to average 11.0 points and 3.1 assists per game. He also scored his 1,000th career EuroLeague point during the season. It was his third in the competition after debuting with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in 2021-22.
Okobo started his career with JSA Bordeaux Basket and Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez of his native France. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the 31st overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and averaged 4.8 points and 2.2 assists over 108 NBA games in two seasons. Okobo also spent time with the club’s G League affiliate, the Northen Arizona Suns.
After playing for the Long Island Nets in the G League in 2020-21, Okobo returned home to France with ASVEL. He led ASVEL to the French League crown for the 21st time in its history and was chosen as the Finals MVP after impressive performances in a 3-2 series triumph over Monaco.
As a member of the French national team, Okobo won the silver medal at EuroBasket 2022.
