AS Monaco strengthened its backcourt by inking combo guard Matthew Strazel to a three-year deal, the club announced Thursday. Strazel (1.82 meters, 19 years old) arrives from LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, where he averaged 3.4 points on 82.6% free throw shooting and 1.9 assists in 30 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season, in which he helped his team win the French League title. He reunites with his former ASVEL teammate Elie Okobo, who also signed a three-year contract with Monaco a few days ago. Strazel grew up with ASVEL and also helped his former team win the French double - league and cup titles - in 2021. In 66 EuroLeague games with ASVEL, Strazel averages 3.6 points and 1.7 rebounds.

Strazel also helped the French U19 national team get a silve medal at the 2021 World Cup. "I am going to new horizons by going to Monaco. I set myself other goals, try to bring everything I can give on the court, and do everything to win the title, this time with Roca Team." Strazel said after the agreement. "I want to continue to gain experience. Discovering a new team with bigger ambitions in the Euroleague, it can only forge me a little more. We followed the course of Monaco in the EuroLeague. Already managing to qualify for the Euroleague playoffs during his first participation is something we have never seen, and for a French team it is even stronger."
