Monaco tabs star power forward Nikola Mirotic

A former MVP has switched Turkish Airlines EuroLeague teams as AS Monaco announced a deal with Nikola Mirotic on Friday.
Mirotic (2.08 meters, 34 years old) arrives from EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, where he averaged 17.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in 30 EuroLeague games last season, ranking third in PIR (22.0) and seventh in fouls drawn (4.9). In his two seasons in Milan, Mirotic helped his team win the Italian League title in 2024.
Born in Montenegro, Mirotic moved to Spain at an early age, joining Real Madrid. He made his EuroLeague debut with Los Blancos on March 4, 2009. After a year playing for Palencia on loan, Mirotic returned to Real as a full member of its senior roster. He became the first player to win back-to-back EuroLeague Rising Star awards in 2011 and 2012, and was named to the 2012-13 and 2013-14 All-EuroLeague Second Team. He helped Real win the Spanish League crown in 2013, two Spanish Cup titles in 2012 and 2014, as well as reaching consecutive EuroLeague Championship Games in 2013 and 2014.
Mirotic went on to play in the NBA, first with the Chicago Bulls and then with the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks. In 319 NBA regular-season games, Mirotic averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds. He also took part in 40 NBA playoff games, averaging 8.4 points and 5.2 rebounds.
He returned to Europe to play for FC Barcelona, helping it win two Spanish League and two Spanish Cup trophies in four seasons. Mirotic also took Barca to three consecutive Final Fours, reaching the Championship Game in 2021. Mirotic was chosen as the 2021-22 EuroLeague MVP, averaging 16.9 points on excellent shooting (65.5% 2FG, 46.35 3FG, 87.6% FT), 5.2 rebounds and a PIR of 20.1. He was chosen to the 2020-21 and 2021-22 All-EuroLeague First Team, while also earning 2022-23 All-EuroLeague Second Team honors.
Mirotic has been chosen as EuroLeague MVP of the Month as many as seven times, an all-time record: in December 2011, October 2013, December 2019, February 2020, March 2021, October 2021 and December 2021. Mirotic has also been a member of the Spanish national team, helping it win an Olympic bronze medal at Rio 2016 and a gold medal at EuroBasket 2015. He also won two medals at the U20 EuroBasket: bronze in 2010 and gold in 2011, earning tournament MVP honors.
His name is all over the EuroLeague's all-time standings, ranking sixth in scoring (4,068), fifth in free throws made (984), 10th in rebounds (1,459), 10th in fouls drawn (1,057) and fifth in total PIR (4,844).
